Great topic! Breaking Bad is one of my favorite TV shows and I can’t help but see extremely strong parallels between Rumple and Walter White’s character arcs. Both start out similarly: meek, soft-spoken, gentle and somewhat bullied. Both start with the intention of protecting/providing for their families, which goes terribly wrong. Both eventually begin embracing their power and role as Heisenberg/Dark One. And, while this hasn’t been entirely confirmed in Breaking Bad, I’m pretty sure both end up losing their families as a result.
OMG. OMG. OMG. No you didn’t just bring up Breaking Bad! I worship that show! I completely agree. Rumpel/Gold is very much like Walter White. It’s almost eerie how similar they are. 😮 .
Isn’t it, though? These two Walt moment just scream Rumple to me.
The first is his infamous “I’m the man who knocks” speech. “I am not in danger. I am the danger. A guy opens his front door and gets shot… you think that of me? No. I am the one who knocks.”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wMEq1mGpP5AThis second one, “say my name” is so similar to Rumple’s “what’s my name” moment with the guards in “Desperate Souls” that it’s eerie!

I do hope they get their happy ending, though. And now that we’ve established a gothic Victorian world, I’d love to bring more of those characters in. My top choices are Dorian Grey, Dracula, Sweeney Todd, and Jekyll/Hyde.
beautyistruthParticipantRazzle Dazzle.
In Season one when Rumple says “perception is everything, my dear,” I most definitely wanted him to burst out into this song Billy Flynn style 🙂October 31, 2012 at 7:48 pm in reply to: WHAT OTHER FAIRY TALE CHARACTERS YOU WOULD LIKE TO SEE … #158776beautyistruthParticipantOh, boy. Rumple and Vader could simultaneously force choke each other 😀
beautyistruthParticipantAlso, just for fun, here’s my most ridiculous crackpot cross-genre theory, relevant to The Time Traveler’s Wife. I theorize that Henry is Rumple’s grandson via Baelfire/Emma and as a result, he acquired magic in the form of time-traveling. An older Henry writes the book and plants it for the younger Henry. He gets out of Maine, moves to Chicago and meets his true love, Clare Abshire. (I-don’t-really-theorize-that).

Oooh I would LOVE to see Pied Piper.
That would be awesome. I do wonder if Rumple’s stopping the war and leading the children home was supposed to be a Pied Piper reference, though?
I’d love to see the Little Mermaid, though not necessarily Ariel. The Hans Christian Anderson tale is striking to me because it deals with true, albeit unrequited love and if they go with the fairytale, I hope they retain that aspect rather than having the prince fall in love with the mermaid. In the original, she is genuinely and more importantly sacrificially in love with the prince, who is genuinely in love with another woman. This show hasn’t really touched on the idea that some form of true loves can be unrequited and genuine at the same time and that would be a fascinating angle to explore, however they choose to go about doing that. (I guess Kathryn’s storyline had hints of this, but that was underscored by her having Fredrick and simply not remembering him due to the curse.)
Adding Oz will be interesting as far as what they do with the Wicked Witch of the West. We’re so used to Wicked that it would be strange to see her as a wholly evil character. That said, I’m pretty sure they won’t introduce a misunderstood character, especially if Whale turns out to be the Wizard.

Trailer crossover between Once Upon a Time and Atonement (Regina/Daniel/Snow as Cecelia/Robbie/Briony, of course). I’m normally not fan of trailer mashups, but I like this one because it raises such interesting parallels for those who’ve read that book/watched the movie.beautyistruthParticipant@PriceofMagic wrote:
I like this scene as well especially the part where Belle says she could never love Gaston and Rumpel is hanging on to her every word and shakes his head. There’s other little moments as well such as when Rumpel is looking out the newly uncovered windows and Belle is following very closely behind him, when Rumpel realises how close she is, he sort of jumps back away from her. I also like how Belle was very forward and touchy-feely with Rumpel when she returned to the Castle with the straw.
After watching “The Crocodile” I realized that this scene takes on even more meaning when you compare Belle and Milah. Both share the same desire for adventure and “seeing the world.” However, while Milah leaves Rumple and Bae without so much as a note to go adventure-ing with pirates, Belle willingly gives up her chance for adventure to save her family and village. Even more, she sticks to the deal without complaint and manages to always have a kind word and a smile for Rumple despite losing her chance for adventure. Take a look at what she says.
“Well, I did want to see the world. That part didn’t work out. But, I did save my village.”
That statement, I think, went a long, long way in gaining his love and respect.
