ParticipantI have to say that it’s getting harder for me to enjoy the show – and even to root for Rumbelle. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll adore them until the end of time, but they never have air time and Belle’s storyline thus far has been ………sad – not just in terms of screen time, but impact. At least had she been Gold’s subconscious, we’d be seeing how much he loves and depends on her. Now as probably Pan’s trick (still hoping it’s Gold’s shadow), what exactly was the point? Pan had already messed with his head re: daddy, so………….? It has to be that they had to give Emilie SOME air time before episode #7 – isn’t there something in a regular’s contract that states they have to have a certain number of on-air minutes?

ParticipantOh, OK, people had been posting about Ariel’s bracelet, so I figured that’s what you were talking about as well. Considering that Belle’s bracelet isn’t something that even stands out, I figured it was just a basic accessory for her outfit. If a bracelet is gonna be a big plot point, it’ll be something obvious like Ariel’s. Belle’s bracelet goes with what she’s wearing, Ariel’s does not, it completely clashes, so the fact she’s still wearing it even when she changes the rest of her clothes, means it must have some significance.
Well to me it’s a big deal or a sweet deal if Gold sent Ariel to give her the bracelet…..or if she’s wearing gold in general to keep close to him. It’s a big deal that she wears his garters and his gloves……I love that, I find it romantic; it has nothing to do with being a plot point.

I don’t see the bracelet on her? This pic shows both of her wrists clearly, and she’s not wearing a big, chunky bracelet.
Ariel is the one who is wearing the bracelet in the scenes where Belle has those clothes.
The pic of Ariel having the bag half open while on the beach, I now think is when she’s putting the box into the bag, just before the leaves with it. If you look at the shape of the bag, it looks like it could have the box in it.
I never said she was wearing a big, clunky bracelet. You have to look carefully, but she’s wearing a delicate gold bracelet on her wrist. Here’s a close up:

ParticipantHere’s another photo of Belle wearing the bracelet…….and below is Belle looking incredibly sad outside Gold’s. Perhaps she goes into his shop and finds the ring and puts it on, deciding that this is the way they can be together for now

ParticipantSo what if the scene on the beach is when Ariel is returning to NL, not arriving from it, and that box is whatever she came to get. Considering Rumple’s holding it on the dock, the box and/or what’s inside it must be his. So is Ariel gonna run into Rumple in NL? Interviews made it sound like she’d probably run into Snow, and that friendship is the reason she helps, but maybe that’s not how it happens? Maybe Rumple tells her that Henry is Snow’s grandson, and so she agrees to help? As for what’s actually IN the box, we could probably guess ALL the things and still not guess right.
I think this is when she arrives. Bobby said in his tweet sesson that he sort of worked with Joanna Garcia – in that she was really a green blob. That means Gold runs into Ariel in NL – and IMO asks her to get a message to Belle. I thought I read on this site that Ariel was seen in photos giving Belle the gold braclet she wears in later scenes. There’s definitely a photo of her giving Belle something (see below), but I have no idea what it is. I’m hoping that Pan potentially using Belle (based on the previews) against Gold will really anger him, spark him to get out of this inactive mode (which I think Pan tried to induce, getting him to be such a mess that he can’t do anything) and obviously try and get a message of love to Belle….At some point, Adam’s spoiler about his love for her and their entire relationship becoming increasingly important (and the fact that she’s the light at the end of his tunnerl) has to kick in – and so does his arc about wanting/learning to believe he can change fate.
Below this photo is another that I really have to wonder about, lol. It looks like they are rehearsing swimming, but obviously Belle is not going to NL with Ariel, so I don’t know what it is. The last one must be a goodbye scene:

ParticipantI was thrilled with all the spoilers today. EXCEPT: it REALLY REALLY bothers me when Adam/Eddy keep saying that the JR crew is going back to who they really are. I’m sorry, there is nothing in this world that will ever convince me that, at heart, Gold IS the Dark One. That’s who he’s been for 300 years, but that is not who he really is. Belle knows this and we know it. God, they had him say that he wants to go back to his best self; they’ve shown him to have an incredibly tortured backstory. Asking us to believe that Gold’s real honest and core self IS the Dark One not only means there is a huge disconnect between what they’re writing and what we see on screen, it means that – the curse means nothing in regards to his life. How does this make sense? For all of his life, he was a good man, a beautiful soul – and he is still that man, struggling to come out.
I adore Gold and to hear Adam and Eddy talk as if the real man is this Dark One hurts. I’m only hoping that perhaps they meant that he has to confront his childhood……because otherwise, nothing makes sense……..and I’ll tie this into my comments regarding the spoiler that Belle will affect Gold even though they are in different lands
I LOVE this spoiler because I want Gold to be thinking of Belle…………. of course she’s always going to affect him, and he’ll affect her. I think this is part of his struggle to be good while he knows he has to do some dark things…. He still so badly wants to be good and I can see him believing that what he has to do may permanently make him this monster he’s always seen himself as. He loves Belle so very much, and he needs her – Bobby couldn’t emphasize this enough at CC (not that we didn’t know it). I think he needs her NOW because he needs her or the thought of her to remind him that this is something that has to be done, that he is not doing anything in NL just for thrills, that he still has all that good in him..that he’s doing this for the love of his son and grandson, that he’s still full of love and that god ,no, he’s not a beast or a monster or anything. This is how I think she’s going to affect him…….I’m SO excited to see this play out. He does NOT want to die as the Dark Oe
So, to me, Gold going after the bad guys is him doing the right thing. Sorry, these people will never have sympathy from me. I know Adam/Eddy created ONCE, but if they think he is truly the DO, then I have no clue how they could write anything they’ve written – and it means Belle is wrong about him.

ParticipantAngie, believe it or not, I’m not stressing out, lol. I just get very very passionate about Rumbelle – about anything because that’s who I am.
I am a born pessimist who worries as much as she breathes, so I’m going to have my moments when I feel down in the mouth. Right now, I’m sort of ok………
As much as we love it, Belle and Rumple’s story is but a small part of the show. At this point, Belle has not been fully integrated into the overall story arc. Therefore, they have not shown us a lot of those smaller relationship moments. With so much going on, a lot has to be implied. I don’t see this as bad writing. It’s an hour long weekly tv drama- they have to keep the momentum going. It’s not possible for them to show every little moment on television the way you can in, say, a novel. It’s a very different type of writing. When Belle becomes more important to the big picture (hope*hope*hope), perhaps we will see more of RumBelle and how their relationship affects everyone else.
I think asking the audience to imply too many things is wrong, though. I get that they can’t show everything and I’m not saying that Rumbelle is the entire show, but they need to show things aside from tragedy and angst. Saying that happiness occurred off-screen isn’t good enough. I know we disagree philosophically on this – but telling us we need to get downs to appreciate the ups and then not giving us ups (I don’t count 2 minute burger dates) is wrong. Yes, I want Belle to be more important in the bigger picture and I think she will – not only is she a fantastic character, but she’s attached to, IMO, the central figure of the show. That said, I’m not sure what Belle not being integrated in with the rest of the cast/story has to do with showing smaller relationship moments. I didn’t need to see how their relationship affects everyone else – their story is their story. To clarify, I really don’t expect Rumbelle to hog up the entire show, but there is a blog out there that detailed just how much screen time Rumbelle got this year – and it was pretty miniscule.
I can only be brief on this because I”m exhausted, lol, but I will give the writers something of pass because Emilie was not made a regular until late, when S2 had been plotted out. Gold was always going to go to NY, and I’m thinking that in order to have Belle out of the hospital and doing things with other characters, it would have required changing very basic things about episodes that were already scripted or planned. So, now that she is a regular and they don’t have to adjust things, there’s a good chance that things will be better (once Gold gets back, lol).
They obviously had to completely change Gold’s arc to accomodate Belle’s presence – and that’s a huge deal and very complimentary – to Rumbelle and to Emilie
Would I love to see all those firsts you mentioned? Of course! More than anything! I am a RumBeller too, after all. But I’ve come to accept that there just isn’t time…there are a lot of Charming moments we haven’t seen yet that I’m longing for too. Maybe some of them will happen, maybe they won’t. That’s why fanfiction is so great- we can fill in those gaps ourselves! I do think that the whole reason we saw those interrupted dates was so that they *could* show us that RumBelle was happy without stopping the flow of the main story
I agree that it was an issue with Snowing and overall S2, not just Rumbelle, in terms of not showing smaller moments. The difference is that Snowing is married, we have seen moments with them and they did get their many loft/everyday life scenes. I think we need to see more domestic Rumbelle and not have so many of their scenes take place at the shop. I don’t think I’m asking for a lot, to be honest. I’d be happy with various scenes sprinkled throughout the 2nd half (and obviously more in Belle/Gold/Rumbelle episodes). I think the writers need to make room for these scenes…..Fan fiction to me is great, but it’s very limited. I’m big on canon – I want to see it on screen. Yes I read it (mostly “romantic” Rumbelle because I need to get my fix) and I even write it occasionally, but for me it’s not a substitute at all for what happens on screen.
While it’s true I’ve been disappointed with the lack of real character moments in the 2nd season due to the constant threat of danger, I would hardly say it’s been completely devoid of them! The heart is still there. If it wasn’t, we wouldn’t still be here saying how much we love them! Obviously, the writers did something right. RumBelle has actually had a lot of beautiful moving moments- not all of them angsty. It has been a bit of a back and forth, but the show is a drama- it’s that way with *all* of the various relationships!
I love the way you analyze the various RumBelle moments on the other forums- every little move and sound from their different kisses, etc. You pick up on things I don’t- it makes me fall even more in love with them as a couple.
Even though I have been disappointed in much of what we didn’t see, I want to emphasize that the most important thing we got in S2 is this: the writers GET Rumbelle, they GET their epic, undying and selfless love. That is what I needed to see coming off of Skin Deep and in terms of this, oh yeah – I am SOOO happy. Even though their storyline in S2 was so tragic, it was also extraordinary and exquisite, filled with unbelievably beautiful moments. I should have known, lol. From the moment Gold said “My darling Belle”, which made me tear up, to his “Sweetheart……I promise”, when I literally burst into tears (from Broken) – that’s basically how I watched Rumbelle this year, lol.
I keep watching the Broken/Croc – Library/Outsider/Brother – hospital kiss/smashed cup/phone call/Lacey/finale scenes over and over again, particularly the finale. Good lord, lol.
You’re very sweet and I will take some time to ponder again what you’ve said because you make a lot of terrific points. I’m not saying now that I will quit (it’s very easy to say, not so easy to do), just that ST for me is a crossroads. Even if I’m thoroughly unhappy by end of S3, I don’t know that I could quit and abandon Rumbelle – I love them too much. I generally love the show as well – but in the end, tv is supposed to entertain you, not anger and frustrate you.
Thanks for your kind words about my descriptions of Rumbelle – I tend to go on and on and on about them, but hey, I can’t help it. I’m an English major from way back, I love words and Rumbelle is extremely inspiring to me.

ParticipantRG, good points……I guess we’ll find out soon enough, lol.
For me, I just want to see Rumbelle happy times – THEY need it for pete’s sake. They can face obstacles TOGETHER – key word TOGETHER – whether that’s a Bae relationship, whether that’s anything else. Don’t just NOT separate them, let’s SEE them in a relationship. This idea that “hey they’re happy off-screen” is NOT acceptable. If you’re a good writer, you can write anything.
Part of their story, a huge part, IS their relationship. We have missed so much of their first moments together that it breaks my heart. They have been apart for at least 95% of their time “together”. Enough already. This is why I say S3 is a crossroads for me. If we get, after S2 and half of S3, more tragedy and personal angst for Rumbelle in the 2nd half, how can I justify continuing to watch the show when it makes me angry and incredibly sad? I’m going into S3 very hopeful, but wary – we’ll just have to see.
I’m fine with there being a threat as long as we also get concentration on relationships. No one is asking for episodes worth of Rumbelle or Snowing going shopping, but showing real people in a real relationships grounds them in reality., Plus, why would I care, why would any fans care, about what happens to people if we don’t care about them? It’s vital to have the audience emotionally invest in your characters. This show is was not promoted to be a show that is purely action/drama with no heart. In fact, fans loved ONCE in S1 because of character developments – and because it was fun. ONCE runs the risk of turning themselves into a soulless tv show by ignoring character development and relationships. So, what I’m asking for is balance……..Oh and there is usually more dramatic and emotional impact in genuinely moving scene between characters than there is in blowing up something for effect
