Participant. But yeah whoever she is talking to in the first vid is definitely a villain
I was actually wondering if she was talking to Rumple (or possibly Regina or much less likely Hook). When the off camera voice said something precious was taken and he wanted it back my mind immediately went to our (potentially) missing cast members from season seven. Maybe Belle and the gang were all kidnapped and taken to Neverland?
The 2nd conversation is an absolute ripoff of the Jefferson/Emma conversation. Hopefully it’s just filler dialogue and they come up with something more original. Then again maybe this IS Jefferson’s daughter and she was sent away like Zelena and then he had Grace whom he raised and the dialogue is deliberately similar. Then again maybe these are wish realm people or alternate reality people or a just dream that one of our characters are having or this is all an hoax to keep the fans busy until fall.

ParticipantI like this idea. If we did favorite twist, scene, or quote we’d have to have some kind of nomination/suggestion process somehow.
Sounds like another rewatch for many of us. I knew I should’ve been writing all these quotes down. Twists should be easier on the memory, but you’re still right that a nomination process of some kind will have to happen.

ParticipantMaybe there will be a time travel spell and Henry will travel back and become his own grandfather/step great-grandfather… Henry Senior! …lol (just in case you thought I was serious)

ParticipantI voted yesterday and since I’ve never gotten to participate in any Once episode poll before I’m pulling for my favorite episode Skin Deep to win regardless of how many other polls it has apparently won in the past.
But in any case this has been a fun way to spend the first part of the off season and it’s not as if there were any bad episodes left. Though one of them isn’t actually in my personal top 30. The other six are my 1, 2, 8, 12, 14 & 22 to be ridiculously precise.
Maybe we could do a new poll of some kind when this one is finished? Best twist in Once/Worst twist in Once or favorite one episode character or favorite scene/piece of dialogue. Favorite quip maybe?

ParticipantRumple is one of the greatest characters of all time to me even with the less than stellar storytelling we got in 4-6.
i love Belle, but I’ve grown even more frustrated with her character arc (if you can even call it an arc) after season three than I am with Rumples.
I really like Charming. If you ignore the stupid dragon egg incident and the senseless death of Percival… He’s really a very likable man post season one. Though I agree that he along with all the heroes has an annoying tendency to be self righteous.

ParticipantI like the biblical undertones too, though they can go to far sometimes (Emma and The Last Supper for one).
I agree that The Dark One mythology needs more work than almost anything else and tying TDO into the fairies somehow would make me happy. Maybe they really should go back to the dawn of time and make Merlin the very first person (in this magical land at least). He escapes into this magical realm through a door or a magical pool in a wood or something and ends up in an enchanted and unpeopled realm. In that realm he finds the grail and drinks from it, becoming magical. He’s lonely so he begins bringing in other humans from our world to the magical realm. He thought this realm was unpeopled, but in fact fairies live there, and somehow the coming of the humans upsets the balance causing a fairy (either Blue or Black) to go dark and desire non-fairylike things. Then at some point Merlin meets Nimue who eventually drinks from the grail, becomes magical like Merlin and commits an act of murder which is forbidden in light magic and thus she corrupts her own magic and becomes the first Dark One. I still like that the dagger and Excalibur are two halves of the same blade, even though I think what they did with it sucked.
Basically both the story of the first Dark One and the origin of The Black Fairy needed to be set in ancient times and …heck they just needed to be epic and as written they just weren’t.
…you know I’m really enjoying this. It scratches some of those annoying itches Once has handed out over the years.

ParticipantNow that Zelena’s story on Once is essentially over can we talk about what her story could’ve been? It’s always bothered me that she was powerful enough to summon a tornado to Oz with her baby rage, yet she was born of two non-magic users in Cora and ‘prince’ Jonathan the gardener. So here is how I would change the Zelena story…
Cora – Cora is a poor and miserable women with a drunken father, a wretched life and no obvious way out except to marry for money/a title. She meets Rumple, learns some magic, breaks Rumple’s heart and then when she finds out she’s pregnant she tells Henry (Sr.) that the baby is his, even though she knows better (she knows it’s Rumple’s baby). Henry’s father, who knew about Cora and ‘the imp’ confronts her about the actual parentage of her child and Cora kills him. When the baby is born green (or gold) Cora knows that showing her daughter to her husband will cost her everything, so she dumps Zelena in the woods and tells everyone her child was stillborn (killing the midwife too no doubt).
OZ – Abandoned child of The Dark One Zelena summons up a tornado that takes her to OZ and drops her right in the path of a poor childless couple… do they raise her? Does her color (green or gold) make a difference to them?
Rumple – Obviously if they changed the story of Zelena’s birth and made her Rumple’s daughter this would necessitate a few crucial changes in the later stories (meat pies and boiled peas for one). Would Rumple realize that she was his daughter when he was teaching her magic? How radically would Zelena’s story have to be changed if she’s Rumple’s daughter?

ParticipantOk I’m trying to sort of work out the overall storyline for Rumple (and by extension Belle and Bae) that I would’ve liked to see on screen.
The Black Fairy – This is a story I would change entirely. Instead of being a human who turned herself into a fairy and then was banished all while trying (I guess) to save her son; I’d have The Black Fairy be an ancient fairy, possibly the first fairy or one of the first. She turned to darkness long long ago because she wanted more power and she took a lot of other fairies with her (think Lucifer) when she left for The Dark Realm, which is a land she created for herself where she brings the children she kidnaps to build her own dark version of paradise.
Malcolm – We know Malcolm was an apprentice to a blacksmith (sold into it by his own father). At some point he calls on The Black Fairy to help him (similarly to how Baelfire called on The Blue Fairy) kill the blacksmith and maybe find and kill his father too? She helps him because she likes how dark his desires are and the two fall in love and have Rumple.
Spinner Rumple – He meets Milah, who is probably running from something or in some kind of a bind because it’s hard for me to imagine she married for love and human Rumple never had money. Or did he? Maybe the spinsters (fairies in disguise of course) gave him money, which attracted Milah, but then Rumple lost the money in some foolish or kind-hearted manner. Anyway they marry, they have Baelfire, Milah leaves, Rumple becomes The Dark One, Baelfire gets dropped down the beanhole… all pretty much as it was on the show.
Mr. Gold – Rumple finds Baelfire much like he does on the show and Baelfire is shot by Tamara and Neverland happens and Gold dies to save everyone (though I still think we need a better explanation as to why he thought he had to die with Pan, I mean it was beautiful, but reasons?). Rumple is brought back and here’s where it all kind of spins out… do I want Baelfire to die here and then be brought back by Zeus later after everyone goes to Hell to save him (a plot that might actually make more sense then the reason those chose to use) they could even trade Zelena’s life to Hades for Baelfire (since Hades seemed to like her) or do I want something else to happen? What if there was a way that say Belle found that would allow Bae and Rumple to separate and live and would somehow cost Zelena her life?
Rumbelle – This is tricky because I love Rumple, I love (Disney movie) Belle and I absolutely adore Skin Deep, but most of the Rumbelle story in Storybrooke is so messed up! I wanted them to be together and stick up for each other and not lie to each other all the time. But the show could never quite get it right and while I’ve tried to put my finger on why, I’m still a bit baffled. The main problem seems to be that Rumple is still keeping himself apart from the rest of ‘the family’ and doing bad things (well he is The Dark One). Writing wise I think the reason Rumple did so much villain stuff after season 3 is that the writers needed someone from the main cast to be a consistent villain they could use to interact/team up with any arc villain they might toss in and they’d already put a lot of eggs in the basket of adding Regina and Hook (who really had no teeth as a villain against all those magic users anyway) to team hero. Storyline wise I guess it could all make sense if you remember that The Dark One is an entity in it’s own right and it might be all Rumplestiltskin the man can do to keep it from killing everyone. Or you could use Rumple’s addiction to magic after two hundred years of non-stop use. But basically I don’t know how to fix Rumbelle after season 3.

ParticipantAnd I’ve lost another one from my top ten in ‘Think Lovely Thoughts’. The pain… THE PAIN!
Voting for only five is going to hurt, but I did just go to the trouble of ranking all the episodes by season and then a master list of my top thirty+ Once episodes overall so I’m hoping that will help keep me on point.
I agree with that we should revisit some character threads and talk about overall storyline and especially how we would’ve liked each character’s story to play out. We may not be able to change what actually aired, but we can head-cannon all we want.
