ParticipantI still think a rewatch is well worth your time for a Once fan. There are so many great episodes and great storylines to go back to that can be even more fun the fifth time through than the first and even many of the bad episodes have at least a few good points. Granted there are some frustrations that every fan probably shares during certain storylines… I’m sure I’m not alone in my frequent wondering for what might have been, what could’ve been different and especially what should’ve been different… What would’ve happened if Baelfire had lived? Why was Zelena so powerful at birth when neither of her parents were even practicing magic at the time (cough should’ve been Rumple’s daughter cough). Did Regina join the heroes to soon for the overall longevity of the show? Should Belle have stayed locked up in the basement for a few more seasons if the writers didn’t know how to write for her? Why did we need to have Lily again? Did Arthur have to be a bad guy? Can’t we ever have two people in conflict and have both of them be good people who want different things? Must every villain be redeemed and/or have a tragic backstory?
sorry I’m rambling on and on here. It’s just that when I look at each individual character now that the show has in a way wrapped up, I can’t help thinking how each ones story could have been so much better and I know the writers had no way of knowing how long the show would run, but still…. Just still.
Anyway back to the point… rewatching can be great fun and I do recommend it to anyone who hasn’t done it in a while. If I hadn’t rewatched the whole series recently then I might not have voted for anything past season three at all.

ParticipantI’m sorry, but not surprised, to see The Price of Gold and Devils Due go. They’re both in my top twenty overall episodes, but hey most of my top ten are still in with a chance so I’m happy.
i just voted for round five!

ParticipantGosh how I love that Bobby and Michael feel the same way most of us feel about the show and that they aren’t averse to saying so publicly.
Thank you to RumplesGirl for posting all the panel snippets here!

ParticipantTo those surprised that ‘Devil’s Due’ is still in I remind you of this exchange…
Rumple: Miss Swan? There’s someone I’d like you to meet. This is Milah, my ex-wife. And Hook’s ex, also. She’s also Baelfire’s mother, of course. Emma knew him as Neal. They had a torrid affair, which resulted in a scandalous teenage pregnancy. In prison.
Emma: Yeah, well…
Milah: So, you’ve been with my former lover… and my son? Is that right?
Emma: Huh.
Rumple: I’m sure we’re gonna laugh ourselves sick about all this one day. I suggest you follow me before this gets even more awkward.…I love the way the writer’s acknowledge the weird creepiness of the Milah/Hook/Baelfire/Emma dynamic here and the way the actors sell it makes me laugh every time. Now can one scene propel an episode into the top ten? Probably not. But it’s still in my top twenty. And I think it’s probably the best season five has to offer. For me at least.

ParticipantYikes this is getting painful. I’m very sorry to see several of these episodes go, in particular The Shepard and The Apprentice. The Shepard is not only a great backstory for Charming, but also has some of my favorite Rumple scenes in Once and an underrated villain in King George. As for The Apprentice… it is in my opinion the very best episode in season four. It’s certainly my favorite from four anyway.
And now onto round four and my fingers are crossed that my other favorites can hang in there for the final round(s).
I still can’t believe the final three episodes of the last season are still in. At least there are only a few from the last three seasons left and around ten from the other three.
I haven’t voted for any season sixers yet (I admit to being tempted to vote for the musical, but I didn’t or at least haven’t yet), but clearly several people must like the finale and the musical or they wouldn’t still be in. The polling has already surprised me in that I figured it would be a sort of reverse boot order with virtually all of seasons 4-6 going out in the first round or two and most of season one making the final round with a few standouts from two and three joining in. Even the top ten after round three has a couple of surprises in it for me. Can’t wait to see what happens in round four! Hopefully not more sadness.

ParticipantAny predictions for this round from anyone?
I think we’ll lose a lot of S5 and S6 episodes.
I concur. But there could be a surprise or two. I know I voted for a couple of later episodes that I had passed over in the first couple of rounds. So who knows what round three will bring.

ParticipantSo we’re still voting for twenty? Since several of the episodes I’ve been voting for were just eliminated that will require me to vote for episodes I’d previously passed over. Not that there aren’t still good episodes left, but now I’m curious as to how that will effect the next round since it’s unlikely that I’m the only one who lost episodes in round two.
Excellent top 14 so far!
Round three votes sent in.

ParticipantI was surprised that Desparate Souls wasn’t in the top ten. None of the eliminated episodes were very surprising, though I think seeing anything fall from season 1 in the first round is a surprise. Even if it was my bottom ranked episode from that season.
Ok I’ll go vote now. This really is interesting.

ParticipantI actually still think we might get an alternate universe of these characters. So the flashbacks would be how that alternate universe came to our world, how these characters are different, the parallels between these characters and the ones we know, and what their motivations are. I can see Rumple still getting Regina or maybe Lucy’s mom to enact the dark curse to bring them here maybe because he knows that in this universe he has a family and wants to take over that life (parallel to finding Bae, maybe he does not even realize that Neal is not alive in this universe. Now how this would work or if we would find it interesting, I don’t know. I just don’t see A and E deliberately messing with the ending of Season 6 because they are scared that they would upset fans. If they did this the returning characters would still have to be very similar to the ones we know, but they could be interacting with different characters in different ways. Maybe Henry does not know he has a child because in this reality he does not but the Alternate Reality Henry does. I know probably not correct.
Personally I like the idea of alternate realities because that would free them up to reset the villains back to their most interesting setting and we can still keep the happy beginning for our characters. They could even have a peep hole or something to see into ‘our’ Storybrooke and see how happy their alternate selves are.
Manic crazy golden Rumple: “What do you mean I have a wife and children? I’m the Dark One!”
Revenge obsessed charming Hook: “I do like the blond.”
Evil quip-mistress Regina: “What the heck am I wearing?”

ParticipantTrying to stay positive… seeing a new Rumple era (i.e. the two hundred or so years between becoming the Dark One and the Snow White Era) might be interesting if they can populate that era well with new characters that fit into the timeline. Maybe they could even patch up the tattered remains of the Dark One mythos. I hate retcon, but maybe they won’t do it this time. Maybe they’ve learned their lesson and will go fourth and retcon no more. Unless they go fourth and retcon their retcons. That would be ok, right?
Memory potions are absolutely the worst crutch this show has ever leaned on. Stop using them.
As for Hook the only Hook flashback I’m hungry for right now is the one that explains his trips too and from Neverland. Because as many times as we’ve seen Hook appear in The Enchanted Forest he really should’ve aged a little. Sometimes the show makes me feel like he just visits Neverland once and awhile, but in order to stay young he’d basically need to live there and that’s not the way it feels. I agree getting Peter Pan back for a few episodes would be great!
Regina flashbacks can’t (or at least shouldn’t) happen without Snow. We know what Regina did for most of her adult life already. She isn’t old enough to flashback into the pre-Snow White Era. And frankly even if they got Josh & Ginny back, I am so tired of flashbacks to the Snow White Era.
Still I think Once: The Next Generation has a chance at being good. I just don’t want it to be a thing where everyone who isn’t Rumple,Hook,Regina, oldHenry has been kidnapped or something and they spend every episode saying variations on ‘I will find you.’.
