ParticipantWell I hope this means that Tigerlily is really old because if she knew BF before she was bad (not really sure) and BF is the originator of all (or most) dark magic, then the two of them should be two pretty old fairies and I guess losing your wings doesn’t make you human exactly since Tigerlily and Tink are still young… but then again Neverland. But was Neverland even a place x-fairies could flee to before Pan woke the place up (or whatever he did)?
I do hope whatever history they have between them isn’t as ridicules as The Dark Ones only being what was it 500 years old? even though there were at least a dozen or more Dark Ones throughout time and two hundred or so of those years were all Rumple.
I guess what I want to see is that Black Fairy is at least 1,000, heck 5,000 years old and she was a good fairy once, but she wanted to rule the world or something and Blue cast her out of fairyland and Black Fairy used some weird forbidden fairy secret to create dark fairy dust and from there she basically started creating all the dark magic we know today and they can have a sequence of quick flashbacks showing that BF is the real power behind every bad thing our ‘heroes’ have ever faced.
Also could they please tell us how she met Malcolm. There has to be some kind of story behind that.

ParticipantForgetting potions are quite possibly the dumbest trope this show has ever developed.

That Snow and Charming are finally awake. That story was getting (wait for it)…tired.
Rumple’s confrontation with BF. Glad someone is paying enough attention to realize what’s really up with Gideon. Now quick Rumple tell the ‘heroes’ ….no no of course he wouldn’t do that. That’s too logical.

Tigerlily was a fairy and she’s knows a bunch about DF… and we’re only just meeting her now? This would’ve worked so much better if we’d already met Tigerlily at some point during the actual Neverland arc.
I did kind of like Hook cutting off his shadow and it was funny that the shadow had a hook too.
DISLIKED
The magic pixie flower and all it’s stupid dusty petals. This is nearly (but not quite) as bad as the love twig thing they did for no reason a little while back.
The way the sleeping curse was broken. It was stupid. Sorry Once, but it was.
Forgetting potions for you and you and you… seriously?! Stop that!
I guess basically I hated all the magic this episode; from pixie flower to forgetting potion none of it worked for me as a viewer.

ParticipantI still think their original planned ending for the show was Going Home and they had to make it sooner because of KillEmma. It just seems like seasons 1-3A had different attitude from the writers than the rest of the series.
I agree. re-watching the show the tone and character development start to shift in 3b and imo it all falls apart somewhere in 4b with the egg and the ‘Queens of Darkness’.
I do believe that Adam and Eddy had an ending planned out from early on, but I also believe that when they originally thought of the big series finale that Baelfire was going to be a big part of it and that Gideon is basically just a replacement character. It’s possible that the original ending was supposed to be Rumple killing Pan (or now Black Fairy?) and himself to save everyone. I just hope they don’t repeat themselves and we get something new and better for the (probable) series finale.

ParticipantRe-watching all the seasons you really see how this show could have and yes should have gone with Baelfire and Emma. The two of them being the final happy ending uniting both the dark and light sides of magic would have been the perfect ending.
And I hope it’s not uncouth to mention him in this thread, but I think Hook would’ve made a very entertaining and much more natural relationship fit with Regina. Please nobody throw stones at me… I bruise easily.

ParticipantThe storyline where Gideon was communicating with Belle while still in the womb was always ridicules and I would love to see them come up with a way to make that work. At the moment the only thing I can come up with is that The Black Fairy somehow has some Seer type powers too and she saw all this coming and so she somehow glamoured herself as her still unborn grandson in Belle’s dreams in order to get what she wanted which seems to have been (as heard on the podcast from I believe Sci-Fi Girl) to get Gideon and make him the thing she loves most (seems impossible for her to love anyone I know, but remember Pan was able to use Felix’s heart) so that she can use his heart to cast her own dark curse.
But if that’s true does this mean Rumple is going to lose yet another son? How can this be good writing in a world where Hook dies every other season and comes back?

ParticipantAre they really going to keep Rumpel and get rid of Belle?
Well those four were just the original four mentioned as under discussion. Deadline is repeating that I think. I still believe rumple is leaving
I don’t know whether to feel hopeful or not over this. Rumple is my favorite character and while I don’t mind him exiting the show at this point, I just don’t want him to die saving his family/the town AGAIN. He’s already done that and after all the crap with the show killing off Baelfire and the near constant bickering between Rumple and Belle we Rumbelle fans have gritted our teeth through for the last three seasons all I really want is to see Rumple and Belle walk into the sunset with the new replacement kid (adult or de-aged) to enjoy at least a few years of peaceful happy ALIVE happy ending. But at this point I feel like there is about 1/1000 chance of that happening. I’d be less surprised to hear that RC signed on for six more years as Rumple then to hear he was leaving the show on a genuine non-dead happy ending.

ParticipantWhen I saw the heart pull I assumed that meant that every interaction Gideon had with Rumbelle in dream world or in Storybrooke was basically controlled by Black Fairy and unless they say otherwise that’s what my headcannon will be because I’d much rather have the hurtful things Gideon said be coming from BF than from Gideon himself in some weird time paradox.
Of course I love Beauty and the Beast and Rumbelle so I want to see good things happen here.

ParticipantI agree that this story was unnecessary filler.
As to the question of why Neverland, I think Gideon said something about magic preventing Hook from coming home (to Storybrooke), so maybe the magic bean having been magically preventing from taking him to his new home simply deposited the pirate back in his old (and much longer lived in) home in Neverland.
Whether there is any useful reason for us to see this jaunt to Neverland I don’t know.
Seeing Blackbeard again is kind of fun.

ParticipantGENERAL: –The Black Fairy has Gideon’s heart. Thank god; a logical, no-nonsense canon compliant answer to why Gideon’s plans and understanding of Saviorhood makes zero sense.
I second this!

ParticipantI agree this episode was all over the place, but also filled with lots of little nuggets of story and a definite forward momentum that was appreciated.
LIKED
Rumbelle more or less sticking together throughout the episode. One of the worst annoyances I’ve had with Once over the last three seasons has been the constant fighting between this pair that really should’ve been bright enough to find another way to communicate which I assume was fueled by the writers desire to make Gold darker because… they thought they were redeeming too many villains? They couldn’t figure out how to write Rumple as a gray character and keep him interesting (like he was in seasons 1-3)? Fans complained that Belle was too weak a character and wanted her to have some ‘strength’? (note I do not consider yelling to be a sign of strength; quite the opposite.)
Emma getting wrapped up in the web and nearly dragged off only to be rescued by Gold and his shiny new redemption arc.
LOVE The Black Fairy as a villain. She really has a scary vibe.
MIXED
All this stuff with Hook and Blackbeard felt like filler even though I did sort of enjoy seeing Blackbeard again; it’s always nice when someone waves to us from forgotten character island. I guess it was interesting to get a glimpse of a Pan-less Neverland, but like I said all of this stuff was unnecessary to the plot and only served to keep Hook onscreen.
The Black fairy’s realm… it was sort of a dark version of the dwarf mines with hammers instead of pickaxes, but even though it was dark, it somehow failed to be dark enough to really make me feel like THIS is truly the darkest of souls we’ve ever scene.
The automatic writing from Henry… I’m not sure what this is. Again I do enjoy a wave form a forgotten character, but I’m not sure how I feel about this one. One more sign that the show (at least as we know it) could be wrapping up this season.
DISLIKED
Hypocrite Charmings. But LOVED that both Belle and Rumple stood up for Gideon. After the last few seasons I half expected Belle to walk out with The Charmings after Rumple threatened them. Threatening a hero doesn’t make you a villain when you’re only doing EXACTLY WHAT these so called heroes do when people they deem worthy have problems like this… and what happened to heroes ‘always finding another way’ (than killing)?
QUESTIONS
If The Black Fairy is the original evil then she must be very old indeed, and if she’s trapped in her dark realm except for brief baby-napping jaunts… how exactly was Rumple conceived? I’m not asking for a visual Once, just a brief line of explanation would do.
