Oh, by the way Lola, I get Outlander through Starz on my Kindle Fire. Not sure if that is a doable for Canadian viewers, though. Sorry I didn’t answer you before! I missed the question. They had the premiere online for free for a bit. It has, so far, been quite magnificent.
When I read the books (I got through the first 3 before becoming exhausted a third of the way into the 4th!) I figured there was no way they could personify Jamie. Even back then people always speculated who would play certain well-loved literary figures in movies. The Jamie in my mind was so vivid to me, I didn’t want it being spoiled (cough Lestat cough) by a sub-par actor portrayal. It was pure magic in my brain and there was no way I felt it could be done justice in a big splashy Hollywood film. I am so very glad it didn’t make it to the big screen. There really WAS no Jamie in existence in the acting world.
Serialized TV, on cable is the perfect way to go. And season two has already been ordered up, I hear 🙂
I think Clare is spot on to my mind’s portrayal. And well…
Isn’t Jamie just perfect after all??? Smiling even now as I write this. Just abso-verrrra-lutely perrrrfect.

Bo-PeepsParticipantDoes that make sense?
Scarily enough, yeah, it does (grin)

Bo-PeepsParticipantDid Emma really lose her magic? (smile) I always thought that she just thought she had. That it had gone inside her to hide behind that wall she had built.
Hook knew it was still in there. So much of his quest was to help her see her magic within.
It came out when Emma broke through that wall. It had been dormant there all the time until she emotionally needed it 🙂
However, in the spirit of your TLK past happenings, I would hope for an Emma-Hook bonafide TLK within the first season, possibly the first finale. And it would be cool if Hook is seriously in need of it and Emma steps forward willingly and wantingly to save him~if not from imminent physical danger, from the turmoil and inner torment that tends to bubble inside of him.
He went to physical and emotional extremes to save Emma from herself (and will probably continue to do so during the season) and now I think it would be fitting and poetic (not to mention wildly romantic) justice, if she would do the same selfless act for him.
While I believe they have been destined since they met to be solid partners in love, it would be great fun to see them head into the second season committed to each other so firmly that they could face new adventures together and for the inhabitants of Storybrooke from a place of unquestionably secure and raspscallionish spirit.

I recall reading the books and thinking afterward that when I walked out the door, I should have been surrounded by the Highlands and men should have been in kilts :)…and all looking and sounding like Jamie.
ahhhh escapism, thy name is Outlander.
😉

Bo-PeepsParticipantTLK…dunno, but I am certainly not adverse to having them try a few hundred times (grin) IF the “kiss of life” wasn’t already the “one”.
TLK really doesn’t affect me as much. Honestly, now that I give it a moment’s thought, I don’t put much stock in definitive kisses. I kind of embrace all off them into one big telling/sharing/soul revealing/tactile /magical/ complex acceptance of “being”.
ONCE’s appeal to me is a much bigger mind universe of here, now, then, before, after, what if…the voyeuristic appeal of seeing someone else’s brain fantasy in script form. Anything can and will happen and I just go with the flow of being out of control about the whole deal!
moving on from Sunday existentialist pontificating …(la la la)
Jamie and Clare…I have a date with them this evening, surayya! And I could certainly chime in on The Outlander thread now n then 🙂
Ancestorally being a good Scot (Clan Sutherland!) I get verra easily lost in the wondrous highlands for hours after watching wee lass Gabaldon’s world come to the small (Kindle Fire) screen 🙂
Lady, I concur! There is not much that is healthy about the relentless obsession of dead-fictional character agony. Wrapped up in? Well perhaps more Warped than wrapped. Or wrapped too tight or…well. It is an embarrassing downer part of the fandom at this point.
In some form or another, almost every fandom has it’s …mucking fuglies…as we used to call them long long ago in a fandom far far away 🙂
“Are you not entertained?? ARE you NOT ENTERTAINED?”
…no, Maximus, (grin and a gladiatorial wink) we are mighty bored by it all at this point.

Bo-PeepsParticipantWhat a wonderful collection of great moments!
They all made me smile, PoM, and are symbolic of just a handful of the dozens of moments that are so cool about ONCE 🙂
Thanks muchly.

Bo-PeepsParticipantHAhahahaha! I now have a new, all time favorite gif set (grin) Many, many thanks, surayya!!
“Things”~ Our new “wink wink” code word (hubba hubba)
Creative, joyful, and funny people….gotta love em.
And speaking of “gotta love em”…the only weapon to use against obsessive killjoys is to…be happier than they are miserable 🙂 Drives em crazy. Refuse to be part of the joy-sucking sludge. It is a masochistic person who once they have made their feelings known, continually complains and whines when they could remedy their misery by just going somewhere else or finding positive things where they are. Their choice is their sad folly. Troll fans. Blog/Site killers.
However, there is one month and a handful of days before all these lovely visuals we’ve been spoiling ourselves with come together with words and storylines, sass and sauciness, torment and tyranny, lust and longing, accents and eye emoting and …ahhh…new leatherrrrrr. (Even for our girl Emma!) It’s going to be an adventure!
(When can we expect Henry to get his first motorcycle jacket, eh??? His true test of growing up…can he pull off the leather look??? )

Bo-PeepsParticipantYeah, that made me blink, too. Maybe snarky Gold is offering Hook a new mode of transportation since Hook no longer has his ship at the dock. (Snork) and regarding the knife…speculation runs rampant as usual! Even though it would be deliciously perfect if Hook could control the real dagger. But apparently old hatred dies hard between these two, blackmail or no blackmail. With Belle believing she has the dagger, Gold will have to be watchful of how destructive his magic appears. It IS wickedly complicated. And Hook’s adjustment to life without his ship is going to be “verrrra roughhhh.” Emma better be good to him.

Bo-PeepsParticipantYeah, there were moments I shook my head at Snow. Being the kind of Mom I am I would have reacted a TAAAD differently (heh) to some of the situations, but then I have never been, nor will be *Snow White* (loud snort).
The Echo Cave reveals were meant to be painful and expose a not so lovely element of their psyches. but the ladies truths were so much edgier than the men. I don’t begrudge Snow wanting another baby, or Emma wishing Neal dead.
Snow and Emma have both been, often, brutal realists.
Snow, however, did get a little hormonally pregnant- biatttchy at times. leaving Emma to flounder a bit emotionally. Even though Emma’s worst struggles have always been her internal ones and she sometimes fought off Snow as *mom* to the point of borderline cruelty… I mean, it really doesn’t matter how old your kids get, they are still your kids. Even though Snow had that large gap in there, she was handling the Mother/Daughter thing quite well up until the little bun in the oven was giving her aggravating moods. (not to mention brilliant moments of *duh*)
Snow was being emotionally brutal to Emma, as Emma was being emotionally brutal to Hook. Different core reasons, but still kinda mean 😛 Family mean-genes I guess.
However, I think all that changed during the finale when Emma realized, even with the abandonment issues, life would be even more painful if Snow hadn’t ever known her at all, and she put all those feelings together and realized that home was home, family, family… even with the aggravation. Especially when viewing Snow as a young woman, and not just a mom. Accepting your mother as a woman first, and your mom second, is an eye and heart opener.
Motherhood is never easily defined! For Snow, or Emma. Interesting to watch now that they are both *peers* in Storybrooke.
Regarding new *retro*-blame Hook for everything themes resurfacing. They still don’t matter. They are regurgitated delusions compared to what actually went down in the story. Old old and more old.
I’m ready for anything that gets thrown our way in relationships. What is the best in my eyes is that they will be developing these deeper relationships between the regular characters…and not just the flavor of the day sparkly-temps coming in for the half season. Rumple and Hook rumbling with each other is…good drama using great talent 🙂
