I agree with you PoM. It is more than frustrating. I will take it a step further. There is overwhelming passion and then there is belligerent ignorance and focused meanness. The passion for a fictional character has now turned into a joy-sucking passion for ugliness. I’m glad Neal is gone and hope his character doesn’t come back in any way. It would be pointless to the story, a downer and giant step backward for the series.( It wouldn’t matter how he was mentioned, either, it would never be enough for the Saint Neal Brigades) He never bothered me before a faction of his fans became so adamantly anti-ONCE. Now any mention of him would leave a decidedly bad taste in my mouth because of his *fans*. They have brought some pretty heavy duty dislike for Neal to the fandom. All on their own doing.
Now, the continuing “Hook/writers/creators/ONCE” hate in certain small, but vocal fan pockets and the delusional clinging to the claims that everything on the show should/would/could have been 100% Neal centric is bringing the Internet reputation of the Neal fandom on some social media/message boards down to a shallow and definitely immature level.
(Frankly, having given a very wide berth to Neal fans after 3-15, to give them time to grieve and be respectful, the Hook, CS fans on this forum in particular went out of their way to avoid conflict or commentary that would further hurt Neal fans. The respect has not been equally returned, even with solidification of Hook and Emma being a true love couple.)
Ah well, they can knock themselves out all across the Internet boards/chats. In the larger scheme of things, the overall fandom won’t care about them. They are nothing more than a temporary blip on the screen.
On a fun “looking forward” with positivity, has anyone checked out the Storybrooke Live site that will be interactive starting in July? http://www.storybrookelive.com/

Bo-PeepsParticipantGreat news! Hoping the best for him during the hiatus weeks. Even better if he gets to sing…his first professional love.

Bo-PeepsParticipantHaters practice their brand of ugliness to get attention. They rely on baiting other, happier, contented people to feed that insecure need. Responding/defending/enabling gives them twisted validation while trying to drag people down. Misery loves company. Refuse to keep their company. If anything, they are to be pitied, but ultimately…
They don’t matter.
Ignore their butts.

Bo-PeepsParticipantOther than things brought to attention on forums, I don’t “do” Twitter and my Tumblr account has always been a pictorial refuge from words, but if what happens on The Twit can’t stay on The Twit, and causes such a deliciously pleasing visual post as PoM’s…wellll I won’t complain!
Hubba Hubba!
It will definitely be interesting to see how they tie Elsa into a vault-sealed uncontrollable magic to Rumple.
Having found Zelena instantly on my “kill her Kill her KILL Her” list, I hope they aren’t as over the top with Elsa. Though I think Ana was infinitely more interesting, Elsa is the flashy draw. If they can refrain from making the show one giant Disney Frozen spin off season, and address the darkness of the Snow Queen, we could see some intriguing crossed history with The Dark One and The Icy One.
The possibilities you all have mentioned could be great fun for our favorite Make Out Champions as well as the Newlyweds!

Bo-PeepsParticipantHeading for the airport soon, so hopefully I have some downtime later to continue the discussion. Enjoying it!
It’s pretty clear that many of the secondary characters are as complicated as the main ones! Especially the ones, like Milah, who drive a large part of the future motivations of the rest of the characters. Yeah, absolutely, PoM, I agree in hoping that at some point we do get more visits to their histories.
@sweetgrass Defense of Milah doesn’t anger me at all. I think her actions were driven by deep seeded, understandable unhappiness. I don’t warm to her because she left her son (and for some gut reason I didn’t connect with the actress’ portrayal which has nothing to do with the actual story!)I do think, though, that she and Rumple did love each other at first. She stuck it out with him for years.
As a side comment from Killian’s point of view~While he nursed his pervasive anger and grief over his shattered beliefs and losing Liam, he was most likely dumbstruck that an everyday tavern “rum and dice”flirtation with a frustrated wife would lead to a deep love. The man, when he loves something, certainly wraps his entire soul around it!
@surayya I totally see the parallel of Emma’s “truth” to Neal and Milah’s cruel comments to Rumple as well. Comes from a deeply painful place. How ironic that both of them were influenced at the time by the presence of Killian in their lives. (Small smile but it really isn’t surprising)

Bo-PeepsParticipant“He shouldn’t have killed her”
Yup. PoM…And that was the issue of my comparison. 🙂
I wasn’t judging the specifics of Milah’s morals/actions. I was focusing on Rumple’s action. He murdered her in premeditated cold blood. He gained the power and he murdered her. Rumple is a huge favorite of mine. Milah, uh, no.
He could have killed Hook easily ten times over throughout all the episodes, but his motivation was that he wanted the man to suffer, over and over. Because of Milah… who he murdered. Pretty heinous stuff. (Projection of self hate? For both Rumple and Hook? Another topic!)
There is no saying Hook is, was or ever will be an angel. His obsession with revenge was ugly. He was self-serving and driven. That isn’t my issue. The issue is that other characters had done truly horrid things without being grotesquely vilified and accused of perpetrating hateful and violent acts against women and specifically, Emma. Not because of any of his actual actions, but basically because he was seen as a threat to this imagined, delusional, romantically perfect union of Emma and a shallow, dull guy who was never there for her even when he DID have the time and chances.
In the process, those making the false accusations and *points* were hoping to denigrate, insult and belittle Hook fans…because Neal wasn’t Emma’s choice.
I still call foul. 🙂
(and sadly, as a side effect, they have turned many in the fandom against Neal, just because of their venom)

Bo-PeepsParticipantI pointedly sidestepped the very serious, in and of itself, *rape culture* accusations mostly because they had absolutely nothing to do with the rabid hate of Hook (which is where it was mostly used). It was self-righteously spewed to try and denigrate a character (and by association, his fans) because the accusers levying the disgusting claims, were too immature and shallow to admit that their *favorite surfer dude*, Neal, was not, now, and never would be Emma’s lover, let alone her true love. Simple, really.
Desperate denial apparently knows no decent boundaries. The very fact that they were using those repulsive accusations was proof of their own abuse, disrespect and disregard of a serious problem. It is why I have no respect or time for any fans (Neal’s or otherwise) who walk that particularly scummy path and talk that particular repugnant talk.
Rumple and Regina WERE and ARE guilty of much more pointedly *culturized* crimes in that regard and in general. And frankly neither one of those characters has had an easy path to redeeming themselves, as it should be. All the characters seeking some kind of redemption have rightly struggled, including Hook. Viewers can agree or not as to whether those characters’ level of suffering/redemption suits their personal standards, but to throw around disgusting *rape culture* blame and outrageous labels is more a sign of their own ignorance, mean spirit and pettiness than it does give any validation to what they are ranting about.
Milah freely chose to leave her husband and child. Her husband brutally killed her for it, maimed her lover and also abandoned the same child to a hell hole time portal just to keep his ill gotten power. Truly he is a criminal, evil bas*ard, but is constantly given a green light for *true love* with Belle. Go figure.
Regina is guilty of many murders and brutally killed Graham basically for the same reason Rumple murdered Milah. She didn’t want anyone else to have him but her. She was a despicable, emotionally abusive lover to Graham. She too is given a pass so she can find true love with the tattooed thief! Massive problem? Nahhh.
But Hook? He spent 300 years mourning, grieving, plying himself with rum, painfully angry and seeking pointed revenge for the murder of the one woman he loved, then is demonized and accused of every filthy dirty motivation, action and grossly false misogynistic accusation because…? Emma CHOSE not to want anything to do with Neal, the man who basically (oops) fathered a child with her when she was a teenager, taught her how to be a better thief, broke her heart, was a lukewarm lame-ass and never came looking for her after she had spent time in jail, ignored her for ten years, went on with his life and new love relationships and died because of selfish designs to bring his father(whom he abhorred) back from the dead for his own personal gains. You know, Saint True Love Neal.
Right.
Pfffft.
And I didn’t want Neal to die.
