Personally, I feel like the heart she used to reanimate the corpses, the one she blew on, functioned as a kind of “master heart”, almost like a universal remote. It is possible that one can only wield this type of power over a heart if it is their own…
[adrotate group="5"]The OZ Doors have the letters OZ clearly written on them, in the traditional OZ Fashion. And, it is a curtain, as in “pay no attention to that man behind the curtain”. When I posted the picture, that was the only one I was sure of.
While you do make compelling points Phee, I do think that it worked. You are correct in the “signs of the hats magic” thing, but I do not believe there was enough magic in the hat to thoroughly go between worlds, because, as you said, Emma was not thoroughly convinced, which held back her powers. However, there was, as you said, a “whooshing sound”, which makes me believe that something magical did indeed happen. Besides, if someone just karate kicked me out of a window, and fell 2-3 stories with shard of glass all around me, I wouldn’t immediately be on my feet. That sound was magic. How strong, we don’t know. He could have gone to a different part of Storybrooke, or to a different time, maybe a few hours later in that spot. He could have even literally gone into the hat, with just enough magic to shrink him, but not enough to actually open the portal to the Hall of Doors (https://oncepodcast.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=477&hilit=hat#p3634) and then had to wait until the spell wore off. The point I’m trying to make is there was SOMETHING magical that happened with that hat, and perhaps the Fairydust is all that’s needed to access it’s full potential.
But wouldn’t the creator of the dagger be allied with light, or at least against the Dark One? I see the creator as being someone, who, a VERY long time ago, created the dagger as a way to weaken the Dark One, whether by forcing it into a new “host”, or merely commanding the entity. There wouldn’t really be a reason for Chernabog to weaken the Dark One, as Chernabog is (in Disney, at least) the God of Evil, and therefore would not see the Dark One as a threat to his evil ways, like Cora and Regina did, but would see it as yet another way to spread evil.
Think of it as Once Upon a Time. It seems like they’re describing a place, not a time period. So perhaps with the hat, time periods can be places, and behind the doors as well.
I was planning on rewatching them, but instead of episode order, in Timeline order. For example, I’d start with Desperate Souls and watch up to the Pilot. Sure, Storybrooke will be a bit messed up, but we’ve already seen that chronological order.

There are 20 because 14 (a mirror) showed door 4, which, in a perfect circle like the hat is, would mean that there are nine on each side of 14, and door 4.
