I think when they give a character a fairy tale name it’s an automatic connection.

I’m not sure about this. I connect to Emma more than ANYBODY in the show. She is a fully fleshed out character and her emotions and reactions to things are taken into account… Neal is just there (except in Nasty Habits, an episode i actually LIKED him in). I’ve even seen SFers refer to Neal as having the emotion of a “slice of bread” in Going Home. The writers are doing it deliberately.
