So I think the necklace could serve as, really, both a remembrance of what she loved and hated about Neal.

Yes, exactly. Completely consistent with her character too. That’s why i couldn’t get on board with what you were saying about possibly wearing it every day because.. it was just something she wore. Because we also have yet to get a story on her circular necklace, or her tattoo, BOTH of which have been promised to come up. All these things… they tell her story. When Graham died, JMo said that Emma should wear his shoelace and A&E agreed it was a fantastic idea – i think this is because of the precedence established by her two necklaces and her tattoo. JMo understands Emma very well, and she knows that sentimentality is a big part of her.

That scene in the bar – just yuck!!  Poor Emma!!

    My poor baby 🙁

I still don’t get why he’d laugh there since he knows all too well the pain of abandonment. Emma’s whole world shattered to pieces when that cop was putting the cuffs on her, just like Neal in the portal, and Rumple in Neverland. He lived with his pain of abandonment for hundreds of years you think he’d show a better understanding of what Emma has had to go through her life dealing with. Instead he scoffs at her… and of course he had no problems slapping his father across the face with his same pain when he tried to reconcile with him then.

I think she was very hurt and wanted to find a way to hurt him back so ripping off the necklace was her way of trying to hurt him they way he hurt her but she also realized she had been wearing this necklace that symbolized a complete and total lie for eleven years and she was disgusted by that and wanting to get it OFF!!!

I think this could also have something to do with it but i’m going with canon fact here – A&E have confirmed that at least PART of the reason Emma wears that necklace is because it was a reminder not to trust again (and i’m pretty sure any other part is related to her sentimental nature). We also have to remember that the necklace was actually a keychain – Emma purposely made it into something to wear, even though:

    • he abandoned her
    • from her perspective sent her to jail
    • was the reason she gave up her child

So i personally think it was exactly what she said it was.

Emma doesn’t beat about the bush or lie – she’s actually very honest. And i think it came from that part of her. Emma has always been forthright about anything and everything, except for when she told Henry his father was dead, and she doesn’t volunteer info about herself. Emma values honesty, and i think it was her first instinct to tell the truth about it, and i’m sure a certain satisfaction came from that.

When Neal asked why she still wore the keychain, she reached up like she didn’t even realize it was still there.

I think he just caught her off guard, personally. She put that necklace on deliberately every day, as a representation of all the pain he caused her and also as a representation of their good times.

I’ve said it before, i identify with Emma a LOT. I also wear a piece of jewellery that has got both positive and negative connotations.

Hello everyone! I just wanted to pop in and say hi, i’ve been catching up on your thread for the past few months. You can add me to your list of married mothers (I have two little ones) who ship CS!

    WELCOME 🙂

i agree that there is no way that Neal could be Emma’s true love (especially after seeing that post (can’t remember who did it) a few pages ago with all the pictures of Emma in pain and all the things Neal was saying to her.

    Guilty lol

I won’t be able to contribute much, not able to break down the episodes as well as you all!! But i will pop in and say hello from time to time.

I’m sure you’re underestimating yourself!!! But yeah sometimes just reading what’s said can be good too lol.

Loving ALL the lovely graphics and gifs, keep them coming!

    WILL DO 🙂

there’s discussion going on about Emma’s necklace and how it was an obvious lie that Emma said she kept it to remind her not to trust again. And that she obviously trusts Neal when she allowed him to take care of Henry etc. Thoughts on this? Thanks!

Ok. I said i wasn’t gunna talk about SF but this is 95% about Emma so… 🙂

It wasn’t an “obvious lie” because it was confirmed by Adam & Eddie in the official podcast to be the reason that Emma empathises with Tiny in Tallahassee – this is CANON FACT. Tiny kept the bean as: “A reminder. A reminder that you’re all killers.” We’ve talked about it before, but Emma is SENTIMENTAL – she keeps objects with both positive and negative connotations. eg1: her baby blanket. Her parents cared for her but her parents abandoned her. eg2: Grahams shoelace. She cared for him but he died in her arms. ALL of these objects Emma keeps are because she is sentimental – sentimentality isn’t always associated with “good things”. Here is the definition in fact:

of or prompted by feelings of tenderness, sadness, or nostalgia

So yeah, The assertion that it is an “obvious lie” is BS in my opinion because it directly contradicts CANON FACT.

Now, on to trusting Neal with Henry etc. (i didn’t read it but i think i know what they’re getting at) is COMPLETELY different to trusting Neal not to crush her heart again.

    Completely.

Neal and Emma even had a conversation about it –

I’m not going to do to him what he did to me.

Or what you did to me?

*laughs* Look i get it. We’re all messed up. Let’s try to avoid that with him.

He has already asserted that he won’t do to Henry what Rumple did to him, or what he did to Emma.

But no way is Emma going to trust him with her heart again – it’s again, recent CANON FACT, that Emma wished he was dead so it would be easier to put the pain he caused her (and himself) behind her.

    Hope that helps! 😉
