in 2Ă—05, when asked why Hook wants to go to Storybrooke, he says to exact revenge against the person who took my HAND. Not love, HAND.
PERSONALLY I think the fact that he only told Emma about the hand was because of his walls. Just like Emma, he has sky-high emotional walls from having lost EVERYONE he loves: his father abandoned him, his brother died, Milah was murdered, Bae left. He just doesn’t want to bring up these things. He completely shut down when Emma brought up Milah at the top of the beanstalk, he was VERY reticent with Charming when talking about his brother, and he outright told Emma he didn’t want to discuss his brothers death with her. I just think that because he loves SO deeply, even after 300 years it still brings him immense pain to think about his lost loved ones.
So personally I think his revenge quest against Rumple was 100% about Milah.
And if 2×06, Tallahassee, is supposed to be the big Emma/Neal Why They’re True Love epi, why is the 2nd storyline all about Emma/Hook, and how SHE betrays HIM, not vice versa?

The flashbacks in Tallahassee were to explain why Emma didn’t trust Killian. That was literally the only reason. And while they showed us Neal in 2×01, they didn’t introduce him, except that he didn’t go to SB like he was clearly supposed to.
If Neal is Emma’s True Love, he would have been introduced earlier as an adult, and we have been shown what he was like etc. They introduced Killian in 3×04 and gave everyone a reason to be sympathetic towards him straight away by showing how his love died. They introduced Neal in such a way in 2×06 that it did not induce sympathy.
Again, it’s not fate or design. These are the writers making very deliberate writing choices.

Must. Stop. Looking. At. Chat. Holy Hook Bashing. It’s actually starting to aggravate me. Maybe I’ve got my shipper goggles on, but I think we’re pretty darn nice about Neal in our thread. We acknowledge he’s not the ship we follow but for the most part we don’t bash the hooey out of him. Most of us like the character. It’s pretty unfortunate if you have to hate one character in support of your ship. Sorry, it’s just bugging me.
Nope totally understand. It’s why I don’t venture into chat very often anymore. I just stick to our lovely little thread here 🙂 Yep, we don’t hate Neal, we just talk about why he isn’t a good match for Emma, in comparison to, you know, the rules of TL on the show.
And the fact that a lot of us here are married and/or mothers and/or converted Swanfire shippers…. yeah. Says a lot.
Oh, but in happier thoughts, to get us through the hiatus, a few of us were in chat the other night talking about movies and other stories A&E reference. It was pretty interesting comparing references one person has seen that others haven’t picked up on, and vice versa. I now have a little list of re-watching I need to get through before 3B…anything I’m missing?? * Princess Bride * Star Wars Trilogy (the good original one, not that prequel junk) * Beauty and the Beast

I’m behind the game a bit; I didn’t realize that “terrible things would happen” if Neal brought Emma back to SB. I don’t mind the snark..
Yeah, Adam said (I’m not sure where.. @obisgirl you’re good with stuff like that) that if Neal and Emma had remained together terrible things would have happened.
For me it’s just another check on the “why Swanfire is not True Love” list. Lol
I’m glad you don’t mind snark/sass because I tend to get ranty every so often. Apologies in advance everyone!!! Just tell me to shut up if you get fed up with me haha, I won’t take it personally.
@oncemusicfan – the fact that Rumple has referred to Neal as his Happy Ending not once, but TWICE now… yeah that’s pretty much a huge flashing sign at where their story is. And now Rumple is in trouble… I would think less of Neal if he didn’t go after Rumple actually. That relationship needs serious work, and the few Rumple/Neal moments we DID have… well I’ve gotten emotional.The only time I’ve ever felt anything with Swanfire is when Emma was telling Neal she hoped he was dead so she didn’t have to face the pain of their relationship. And it wasn’t a good emotion – it was “omg my heart hurts in a very bad way”

I’m doing a rewatch soon, from 1×01 to 3×11!!!! This hiatus is looooooooong already.
