I don’t get how sucking up magic into the hat has anything too do with the dagger. Am I wrong to assume the dagger somehow gets sucked up into the hat? Or, Gold wears the hat which makes him immune from the dagger? I can’t really picture Gold putting on that hat, it’s just weird. I’m bum puzzled as to how I envision it happening.
I get, 100% why Gold will lie, steal and kill to rid himself of that dagger, and I don’t believe for a minute that Gold is only after power. Rumple may have lusted for power over others, but I’m not convinced that Gold still does.
True loves kiss can break any curse, but it can’t break the curse of the Dark One. I believe that Belle truly loves Gold, and vice versa, but still, the kiss can’t break the curse. Which means the dagger stands between any true love that Gold may have ever wanted. The dagger will always present a temptation for a loved one to use against him.
Not forgetting how many times others have tried to use the dagger to control Mr. Gold. August tried it, Cora was willing to kill him for it. He knew his own father would kill him for the dagger. Zelena 100% controlled him. Even his wife was tempted to use the dagger to control him. So I get why Gold has an all consuming desire to rid himself of the dagger, even if that means betraying Belle’s trust.
But how is the hat activated? Fill it with magic until it’s fat enough to suck up the dagger? Release all the magic so the hat sucks up the dagger to fill the void? How does Gold know there’s not enough magic in there already? Will we see a giant whirlpool portal open which sucks up both the dagger and the hat and sends them to ?
Has the sorcerer been waiting for the darkest Dark One to fill his hat with so much magic that he, the sorcerer, actually becomes the most magical being ever. He would control the most powerful of all magic including the Dark One. What’s the sorcerer getting out of this deal? And where is the Sorcerer? Is he in the hat, and that’s why the Apprentice has been guarding it?
I’m assuming magical beings can be released from the hat. The Apprentice is in there, and I doubt OUAT can kill the Sorcerer’s Apprentice, because, well, that’s Micky related! (I once had a stuffed Micky wearing the sorcerer’s hat) But, if the Apprentice can be released, wouldn’t that also imply that the dagger could also be released from the hat at some point in time?

I think it would be cool if Granny could understand the twilight barking, or, better yet, it alerted Ruby and she returned to Storybrooke.

For the sake of argument, Rumple has a hard life, a difficult road, many losses along the way. He’s tried to overcome darkness, but stumbles, often.
But, he still loves. He still ekes out a few acts of kindness. He still is able to weep over lost loved ones, his father, his son.
Maybe, since he’s been faced the the cruelest, darkest obstacle, the dagger, but still manages to love, maybe, just maybe, his heart is brighter than anyone can imagine.
(Ok, yeah, I don’t actually believe that, but, whatever. No ONCE tonight and I’m bored)
What if the division has to do with magic? All the Storybrooke residents who posses the gift of magic are transported back to the a Enchanted Forest via a magic portal (clock tower elevator, or, hat).
And those who have no magic remain behind.Assuming those with no hearts, half hearts, etc are included as being magically imbued with heart magic, or, whatever.
This would separate Rumbelle and OutlawQueen. Plus, it would answer the question as to whether Henry and/or Snowflake possess magic.
Is Hook still being controlled by Rumple in 4b? I have a feeling that particular plot may drag on since the sorcerer’s hat may be around the entire season. Also, the sudden appearance of these new villains in town like Ursula, Cruella, and (undead?) Maleficent may be tried to this plot point, since Rumple said he would use Hook to gather up power into the sorcerer’s hat. So Hook may not be out of the woods just yet, since Rumple needs Hook’s heart to finally cleave himself from the dagger.
I guess that would lead to the question What powers does he need? I thought he just needed Emma’s power. But possibly Rumple needs very specific powers from multiple places. Maybe he needs power from the sea, Ursula. Power from our world, Cruella. Power from the enchanted forest, Regina maybe. Power from the afterlife (?), Maleficent. I’m just guessing, but could Blue represent power from the sky?
On the other hand, I still don’t understand one thing. Rumple can trap magical people, or powers into the hat. But, can he also release them from the hat? The apprentice, for example. Is he dead? Or, just trapped? And if they’re trapped, how is that any different than being trapped in the urn?
I know you are all sharing deep thoughts about relationships, morals, rights and wrongs, and I agree with most of them.
But here’s why I don’t ship OutlawQueen. I’m petty.
If a woman is strapping on her Jimmy Choo shoes, and her man asks if she’d like to come hang out at his place, his tent in the forest, to me, it’s just weird.
Plus, if Regina and Henry start reading Superman comics and the word Kryptonite (crypt tonight?) comes up, well…whatever.
But, like I said, I’m petty. I’m all for Regina enjoying an afternoon delight. But as a long term endgame, not so much.
Regardless, once that shattered glass starts spreading I think much of what’s been said in this thread will be reiterated by the good people in Storybrooke.
Rumple has always been an enigma, a person of puzzling and contradictory character. He speaks in riddles, and his intent is often not clear.
However, last week Rumple’s intent was crystal clear in his conversation with Hook. “You’re my puppet now. You’re going to find another way to fill that hat with the power it needs. And then I’m going to kill you.”
There was no mistaking Rumple’s intent as he said the words “and then I’m going to kill you” He said those words with hatred and vicious evil seething from his soul. His face snarled with viciousness.
Getting the hat, filling the hat, whatever, that’s what he needs to do to free himself from the dagger. But, Killing Hook is what he wants to do, as an afterthought, for pleasure. To please his evil appetite for revenge.
Is it a coincidence that Will spent the night in the library and was the found with a torn page from a book? Also, he did glance at the table behind Robin as Robin was searching the bookshelf.
I’m not saying he’s the author, but, he sure is quick at problem solving.

Will’s great at wordplay and idioms. Wouldn’t it be great if for 28 years Will took a page from other peoples books and got to live their adventures with them?
Plus, he sure has an eye for the ladies!
I wonder if Belle ever thought it was disturbing to see that jar in Rumple’s shop. You know, that jar with Hook’s hand in it. I wonder if it creeped her out knowing Rumple keeps body parts in jars. A hand in a jar on this counter. Oh, and a human heart in that box over there. I wonder if she was curious, or ever asked about it. Surely it’s in the inventory. Probably has a little description card in that “handy” inventory box.
Oh, and I wonder if Belle ever does Rumple’s laundry for him. Possibly empties his pockets before sending his suits out to be laundered. Oh, wait. What’s this? A telephone?
Come on Belle! Wake up! Your man is horribly broken. You need to either help him, or run. But seriously, you at minimum need a scene where you acknowledge that something has changed in the man you love.
