Media CriticParticipant
obviously, the writers will come up with some way to get her out of this situation but if we’re talking about how someone would/should react in this situation, it makes perfect sense!
[adrotate group="5"]Media CriticParticipantYep. Abortions are never an easy choice, so yes it is sad, but in this case it’s either send the baby to hell or prevent it from ever developing.
You can have another child with a sane, non-socio-path who doesn’t fraternize and make deals with demonic forces whilst bringing havoc on innocents and constantly putting you and your family at risk while you claim to “love” him.

Media CriticParticipantMaybe the ink turns one into a caricature version of themselves.
April 26, 2015 at 4:30 pm in reply to: Lily is the Black Swan, and other Swan Lake connections #302714Media CriticParticipantYou’d rather trust a list on a website than the actual plot before your eyes?
No! This is her character. The director of the film listed her as such in the credits of the actual film. I know the story. The Nina being her own Black Swan is a psycho-analysis twist in the film. But for all intents and purposes, Lily is, on face, the black swan. Again, it could be just a reference to this and not an exact parallel!
April 26, 2015 at 4:27 pm in reply to: Lily is the Black Swan, and other Swan Lake connections #302712Media CriticParticipantOh, and just to clarify, my “you’re wrong” statements were clearly just jokes, hence the winky smiley face at the end!
You seem to be of two minds. You’re suggesting right now that it’s just a tiny little connection that you found. That’s fine. BUT in your OP you state…..
This could mean two things: Either it’s just a wink and a nod to Swan Lake and Black Swan, or
Notice, I give two options: Either it’s just a wink or nod (that is, “a small connection”) or it could be a more elaborate one. Obviously, I can’t know for sure. I just noticed the connection, and believe that it is not a coincidence. Either the writers are just referencing it or it could play a larger role.
I like Mathew’s theory that it could even be BOTH the lilith myth and Swan Lake/Black Swan theory combined. But I do think there is in fact a Swan Lake connection, especially with August.
April 26, 2015 at 4:12 pm in reply to: Lily is the Black Swan, and other Swan Lake connections #302702Media CriticParticipantIn order for her to be named after the character in Black Swan, you’d have to show a connection that is more than superficial–more than just a name.
I disagree. Most, if not all, the characaters’ Storybrooke names have been superficial winks, nods and references to characters and people that relate to their fairy tale personas. Dr. Whale for instance is named after the director of the Frankenstein films, and Regina simply means Queen in Latin. There doesn’t have to be this deep exact parallel.
But you seem to be forcing this idea that if there is a connection to another story, like Black Swan or Swan Lake, there has to be a direct parallel:
“That’s fine, but you’re stopping at the full parallel.
But I disagree, I don’t think there has to be a direct parallel to the movie. I think there is a small connection to the SWAN LAKE ballet and story on which the film is based and the name is just taken from the film just as Dr. Whales comes from the director of Frankenstein. That’s it. There are TONS!! of these minor connections and references scattered about the series, from random allusions to One Flew Over the Couckoo’s Nest to The Great Gatsby, neither of which have full parallels.
Also, if you look up the cast list for Black Swan on IMDB or WIkipedia, Mila Kunis is credited as “lily/THE BLACK SWAN”–FYI Who cares about the actual plot of Nina being her own black swan. IMO it isn’t a parallel, it’ s a reference. Big difference.
Media CriticParticipantShe was locked in a room by her mother. She certainly wasn’t 40 or 50.
Media CriticParticipantThat would mean the EF Cruella was in or near her 20s. That isn’t right.
April 26, 2015 at 3:19 pm in reply to: Lily is the Black Swan, and other Swan Lake connections #302669Media CriticParticipant“Lily in OUAT was not named after the antagonist in Black Swan. “
Um, and how do you even know this? Are you A or E? Didn’t think so. This is just my theory, just like yours is just a theory. There are no right or wrong ones here. We can’t say for certain what is or isn’t until it’s been proven on the show, and nowhere have they explained where Lily got her name.
“Lily is a highly common name and you have not proven that she was absolutely named after a character in a movie any more than you’ve proven that she was named Lily simply because A and E liked the name”
And what have you proven?
“She’s not LILY—she’s Lilith. There is a reason why they had her father say her full name in 405”
Duh. And there is also a reason they are only referring to her as LILLY from now on. Do you know what the title of this next episode is? It’s LILY, not Lilith
are you *aware* of how many Biblical names there are in this show? ..You think one movie from a few years ago has more symbolic weight than the Bible?
Are you aware that while there may be Biblical references in the show that this is first and foremost a show about FAIRY TALES. YES I am more inclined to believe a clear fairy tale/ballet connection over a biblical one for this show when faced with the two options. The fact that Emma’s last name is Swan and her supposed evil counterpart is named Lily just like a popular character from Black Swan is much more convincing of an argument to me than the mythology of Lilith, especially when her sworn protector (and possible author of part of her story) shares his name with the fairy tale writer who inspired Swan Lake (August).
This is my opinion. I respect yours, even though it’s wrong. 😉
