From my little corner and my point of view, I have found certain people of different beliefs and opinions very enjoyable to discuss things with. It has been a pleasure to discuss even the spoiler with. This may sound extremely sad or even judgmental, but for the most part, I have found the chat to be extremely open in discussion; unless there are a handful of particular people in there who like to cause trouble. I realize that that may as well be in the eye of the beholder. When I mean trouble I don’t mean saying “YAY CS!” or “YAY SF!” and being giddy and people get offended over that. No, I’m talking about people who actually insult and pretty much take up the entire chat for themselves. I can see people in the chat talk about CS all day. It really doesn’t bother me. And I pray that if there are two talking about SF in the chat that people can see that as non threatening. Because it’s not. To think otherwise is just immature.
I think we have to pick our battles. If we go into the chat or on a thread and see actual bullying or insulting, then we ALL need to come together– whether they ship who you ship or not— and say something. I’m really tired of seeing people stick so close to their shipping that they get on to the victim of the bullying rather than the bullier. I’ve seen people who call out some for being rude&mean be attacked and accused of doing that because they ship opposite ships. Sometimes that is the case, and the person is overreacting. Sometimes it’s not. Sometimes people are just sick of the rude& mean behavior and it has nothing to do with the ship.That is where the problems lie; with certain people who attack and don’t discuss. And yes, shipping tension exacerbates the problem. I don’t think it’s the majority of this site at all.
There are just certain people I know I shouldn’t be in the chat with. Not because I won’t like what they have to say, or they ship someone different than me. But because they constantly insult others. And if I stay too long, I’ll get upset– not at the shipping, at the attitudes.
So that is what I think is the underlying thing here. It’s really people who refuse to use tact and be respectful, period. Shipping has just determined whose side you choose. It’s sad.
I just want to say, SK, you are one of my favorite CSers to read and chat with. You are always respectful and I actually am happy when I see you’re on the chat. There are others like that too. Obviously I know everyone in here who ships SF but I really don’t know who all ships CS.
Just on a positive note, It’s really the best when there’s a room full of SFers and 2 CSers come on and are giddy over something or say something about CS and *gasp* nothing happens. And vice versa. It’s the best feeling in the world. And it happens ALL THE TIME. Which is why I have a hard time understanding people who jump down someone’s throat for mentioning ships in the chat. Not a ship discussion. Just saying “Oh like Hook and Emma.” or “oh like Emma and Neal” or something… that shouldn’t cause a war. It can be done… we expect things to blow up, and rightfully so. Things have. But I really have had some amazingly positive experiences that have shaped my view of Once and the shipping world. Maybe I’m just a positive person. But … anyway…

Exactly! I haven’t really commented on foreshadowing at this point because the spoiler was such a shock, but when you dig deep, with NO AGENDA, which I always try to maintain, even if it hurts or I find something I don’t like… it’s there.
On pg 433 I wrote about a friend I just spoke with about the spoiler. She’s a general viewer and not involved in any ships or any part of the fandom online at all, and she said Hook without batting an eye. This just in: Just told my friend about the death spoiler. She’s a general viewer not involved online at all, and not a shipper…
She was knitting at the time and without a thought she was like, “Oh. Hook.” And continued knitting. Needless to say my jaw dropped. lol. She said it was the only thing that makes sense and when she thinks about the first half of season 3, she can see they were setting it up.
Don’t get me wrong, I love being in the fandom. But boy do I wish I had the ability to be removed from the drama and just see the show as it is… lol

the only way it can maybe happen that he does give his life for anyone is if they give him first a lot of screen time to talk about his regret and maybe have him learn something from Rumpel’s example.
I agree, if he’s going out, he’s going out with a heart wrenching monologue. I for one acknowledge all the terrible things he did, as I am sure every SF on here does as well. Even through the maybe-redemption and then the failures he had in the S3A arc, I think, esp w/Charming telling him he’ll be nothing but a pirate, and Regina saying the thing to him about happy endings,even in the acting (sorry, run on) it shows me there’s been contemplation.

I think his change from Navy Killian to Pirate Killian, and all the wrongs he’s done, makes him a candidate for wanting to do something good for once in his life, to be remembered for greatness. At the end of the day, it doesn’t erase all of the bad things, but for me, it shows how much he has gained from being with our crew and how much they reminded him of the man he used to be. It’s not too unlike Rumple’s story. If it is Hook, here is how I can see it going down:They’re in some sort of danger, and if it’s not a jump-in-front-of-a-bullet sort of thing (which I doubt), during the battle they will need someone to go on a mission of no return. Hook will volunteer, and so will Neal, but Hook will say something like, “I traded your life for mine when you were a boy…” or something to allude to the fact that he traded Neal to Pan… everyone will say, “No, Hook, you can’t, you’ll dieeee!!!” “I’ve lived ____hundred years. To die will be an adventure.” (They may choose to use the exact quote, they may choose to tweak it a bit)…
And then he’ll run off in the battle and we’ll see him save everyone but give his life in the process. I don’t care what anyone says, I don’t want Hook to die. I don’t understand why it’s so hard for CSers to believe. But if anything, it just makes sense. And to give him that honor that he’s desperately wanted his entire longggg long life, well, I’d probably cry my eyes out for days after that ep. It’s the epitome of what this show is all about.“Greater love has no one than this; to lay one’s life down for one’s friends.”

Some good points.I don’t wish this death on ANYONE, but some of the arguments are a little skewed.

For me, there is nothing in the past that could be said about someone to prove they are staying. Things change. That’s obviously what this entire thing is about. Things change. Like RG said, it could be anyone, and none of us know, despite repeating our opinions over and over and over and over and over. We can’t dive into the minds of the actors; as much as we think we know them, we don’t. We dive into the minds of the characters because that is part of it. There’s fan interpretation. This is real life, and unfortunately things change, and I don’t think, aside from set pics, we can rightly predict who it will be. (And even set pics are a bit sketchy… just because we don’t see someone doesn’t mean they’re dead…but if we do see them, we know they aren’t.) So to be so solidly sure is putting the cart before the horse. All of us know the same facts as everyone else and right now our opinions are going to be based on who we like or dislike. Because all of us have the exact same information to go by.
It really could be anyone, and I think a little piece of all of us right now is in mourning. Regardless of what happens, our show will change forever, and not because of writing this time. 🙁

A bunch of us were just tweeting on Twitter and something dawned on me. Someone mentioned they thought Hook’s kiss not working in the winter finale has less to do with a Snowing memory parallel and more to do with Neal. And I of course have wanted to believe that, but haven’t thought of any reason why that would be, substantially.
And then Emma’s voice popped in my head. “I never stopped loving him.”
Even before Manhattan, she felt that way. Before Henry finding her. Before SB. She never stopped loving him. That part wasn’t erased. Though the pain, through the confusion, through the not understanding. She never stopped loving him. As confusing as it was for her, she never stopped loving him. There was no Manhattan or SSTR, but there was also no Beanstalk, no confusing NL, and no CS Kiss. There was only Tallahassee. That’s the only thing that is left in her head. Here and Now. So while she’s lost some bittersweet good SF memories, she’s also lost ALL of the confusing CS ones.Tallahassee remains.

Don’t forget, this hasn’t been the only Emma-Neal thread. This one was created at the season 2 finale. I can’t remember the other title of the old thread, but I wonder how many we had on there?? We should add them all up and see our total pages 🙂

A little sad today as Once’s promo dept continues to push Hook. Even specifically CS. It’s not even about Neal, and it’s not even about Swanfire. It’s that this show existed long before Hook was in it and yet they use him incessantly for promotion. It’s so old.
But even so, no quote for Neal’s love for Emma. No quote for Emma’s love for Neal. No other relationship promotion, not even of Snowing’s love. It’s just so old and disappointing.
