For me, when I first watched Tallahassee, I wasn’t impressed much with Neal. I never disliked him or hated him. I understood love is sacrifice and that’s what he was doing the first time. But it just didn’t speak to me.My second watch all the way through, the second time I saw Tallahassee about a month later, I got it. It clicked for me. Their chemistry, and MRJ’s portrayal of Neal. I saw the subtlety of his face portraying different emotions. When I finally got sucked in to the emotion of the entire series, I was able to see the depth of Tallahassee. The depth of Neal. The depth of the emotions. It’s still amazing to me, to this day, how much MRJ can portray just through the variations in his FACE alone.
And during that second watch, I realized there had to be more to his character than setting us up just to dislike him for leaving Emma. It was so so so clear to me in that moment. So, while I understand the initial flatness some people talk about seeing, I know how quick it changed for me once I really watched it through different eyes.
Also, Baelfire was probably my biggest tearjerker the first time I watched the series back in Nov/Dec of last year. I realized this whole series has been basically “about” him and Rumple’s search for him has effected everyone. When the hunches came that Neal was Bae, I couldn’t have been happier. I think his character has been right along the lines of Bae. In fact, Nealfire went through 309849048900494804930895089 times worse things for 300 years than anyone on this show yet that’s not an excuse. He’s still pure. He’s still full of love. We hear “evil isn’t born, it’s made”, well most of that “made” is a choice because Bae has still chosen light and not darkness. Evil has tried to make him since day one, and it hasn’t won. He’s still as sacrificial as ever and we’ve seen that play out with the series finale and in S3. Sacrifice is an unwavering proof of true, pure love. You’re not going to sacrifice your entire life, everything you know, even unto death if there is no love in your heart. Why do it at all?
While lack of sacrifice doesn’t equal lack of love, sacrifice most definitely proves pure love.And that is where and how I connected. It did have a lot to do with Baelfire from the beginning. I feel like it’s depth in a non-flashy way. Humility and internal resolve. He’s had to have it over the years otherwise, he never would have made it. *sigh*

Like father, like son! Rumple gets his nasty sense of self-preservation from DaddyPan! PP must be seriously devious if he’s willing to let his great-grandson die just so he can live.
I rewatched Dark Hollow last night and Pan said to Felix, “Given his lineage, I expect nothing less.” 😀
Also, Neal knew about the Heart of the truest believer because of his stay in NL, and probably told Emma. (To whomever had this question– sorry, on my phone so it’s hard to go back once I start typing!)

Since I knew people mistook that fangirl for Emilie and didn’t know if the spoiler came from someone legit, I didn’t believe it. She must think Peter will kill Rumple.

Phee: I’ve been sorta watching the voting, but haven’t participated because I didn’t really like any of the options that much, and I’m also just a lurker on tumblr, not an active poster. I remember back before the voting began, I saw a post where someone suggest Braeves, and I instantly loved that one. It fits his character so well, embraces all the sacrifice he’s made and how selfless he is, and how he’s still hanging in there all this time later, and especially now with his resolve to fight for Emma…I just think Braeves would be PERFECT.(ETA that I sent in a message to LilRedSoupBowl suggesting Braeves be considered for the vote. Hope I did it right, I’m not used to sending messages and posting stuff on tumblr.)

Saw the Wendy/Bae reunion and was overcome with emotion. Wow! <33333 teared up a little! so excited!!!!

“Miss 88o” posted this on tumblr. Oh the feeeeels… Poor Neal. He has been so selfless his entire life.
After Neal finds out about Wendy being in Neverland. After Neal finds out about his sacrifice being for nothing and Pan destroyed the Darlings lives anyway, I want a scene where he breaks down a little bit over that fact that he’s made three major sacrifices in his life – trying to get Rumple to leave magic, going with the shadow for the Darlings, and leaving Emma – and all those decisions had major repercussions on all their lives. And all of their happiness. (And has basically been the driving force for the whole damn series. Seriously.)
And I want Emma to be there for Neal in that scene.
And I want this to be the moment where they start to heal, and Emma starts to fully comprehend Neal’s side of the story. Not forgiving and forgetting, they have a lot of work to do, but this will be a huge moment for the future.
It could be a great scene about never giving up. About hope.
Also, I want to remind everyone that LilRedSoupBowl on tumblr has been putting together all the voting for Nealfire’s fan names. I’m pretty sad at the finalists, after months of voting. 🙁 But she is still taking submissions so if you have any ideas, get them in LIKE TODAY.
My fav was Darlings, but Baelonians beat it. Let’s take a look at what we’ve been stewing over since the beginning:
Neal Cassidy. The name= “The Peter Pan of our generation.”-Yeah. The 3rd generation Pan!
Rumple’s father was known as the town coward. Like others have mentioned, if he is Pan, his cowardice was not wanting to grow up and take care of his family. He abandoned family. Peter Pan himself hates being called a coward. All this time many of us have thought it was a nod to Neal being PP with the whole “my father’s a coward” thing, but really, it just went down the family line!Anyone else have anything to add? Anything we were using and noticed about parallels/nods with the PP story that, in hindsight, would point to PP as Rumple’s father? I had a really long list about 2 hours ago. Unfortunately I can’t seem to concentrate now that I’ve finished dinner!

I’ve been meaning to say this for the past week but I just started a new job and so it’s been a little crazy. But I can’t even say how much I love coming on this thread and reading everything… every day it’s refreshing. I feel like this thread and the people in it are so full of hope, and have a soft heart. I’m so grateful for such an encouraging thread that is focused on lifting each other up. We don’t know anything about each other; our favorite colors, what we do, where we live, or whom we love. And I hardly ever even say a word on here. But I’m just so grateful and feel like this is such a safe haven of peace. No matter how anxious we are about Swanfire and everything happening, I feel like there’s a soft strength that exudes from this thread. I know it might sound SO weird. But that’s how I feel when I come here.
It’s almost as if through the pain, through even all our very vast & different life experiences, there’s no bitter root bulging up through anyone’s posts. It’s just, we keep on keeping on. Through the ups and downs of the emotions of this show, through the pain of the fandom or our own discouraging experiences within the fandom. In hope, in love, and in encouragement. 🙂 <3 And I love that. And it makes my day a little better coming here and reading the words all of you write./end sickeningly sweet sappy sentimental post
