ParticipantBurn Notice, for example killed off a recurring character that was the brother of the lead character and son of another main character. That kicked off a huge hunt to find the killer, and led to strain between the lead and his mother’s character. Down the line, two seasons later, the mother had a storyline of trying to get custody of her grandson–fall out from the death. The dead character wasn’t lionized /whitewashed in death either–the good and bad get mentioned depending on how it fits into a plot–and it was a pretty formulaic show so plot drives a lot of things. Yet it was on a network that made a tagline about “character” so, maybe that’s why the writers made the effort despite the genre feel to the show.
Burn Notice is a perfect example of great character acknowledgement.. they really did it so well. I LOATHE death in movies and TV shows but they were so good at how they did it and the repercussions of it… even the series finale when Madeline dies you’d think the kind of person I am I would be completely upset about it and hate that they did that on the show… but I wasn’t. Sure I cried. But it actually moved me because they had spent all this time on her character and it was so deep, and it the story really did call for it.

Participant@Lecygne, perfect gif usage 😀
I just got my haircut today at a new salon, and my stylist asked me if I was obsessed with any shows. Of course I told him I was with Once, but explained my issues with the second half of season 3 (without knowing he watched it). I didn’t even mention Neal or anything. Just generalities (because it goes so much further than just Neal, as you ALL know and feel as well.)
He said his wife stopped watching too. Lost interest. He’s stuck it out, but agreed about the issues in the second half of the 3rd season. Oh and Rumple of course is his favorite 😀I have a text from a friend some of you wanted me to share on here as well. She’s a general viewer with rare random journeys into the fandom.
I’ll post it now. Sorry for the delay. Been crazy getting ready for my cousin’s wedding!“They keep throwing Neal back in our faces. No matter how many minutes of airtime pirate has of making out or dancing with red dress Emma, 2 seconds of Neal breaking into a carousel to tell Emma about his past is 1000 times better. The fact that she keeps saying things that we find out later were his influence (“home is a place you miss when you leave”) just proves that his part in the story wasn’t over. Literally the only thing that came of them going back in time–A HUGE ORDEAL– was to bring back [Maid Marian] to the future. If anyone could have stopped his death without changing the future IT WOULD BE RUMPLE. He’s way too stubborn to do what some blonde stranger says, even if she knows about the future.
I just really want honest answers to why he left in the first place. If it was for “bold storytelling”, then he’s coming back. They’re good writers. They MUST know this is unacceptable, unless they make up for it later. I just want to know [why they wrote his death] so I can lay blame somewhere lol. Usually when stuff like this happens it is writers vs studio and everyone’s hushed up because studio pays the bills. “- TaylorAnd unfortunately… ditto about Emma. Just watching a few s1 and s2 eps with my cousin… her character is like night and day. OOC for one…. OOC for all… 🙁

ParticipantYeah, which is why I said I refuse to show her anything past 311… and will probably only go til 222 and then show her the clip of Rumple and Neal hugging on the boat…I will make her promise to me she will never watch past it! lol

ParticipantMy cousin (and best friend) is coming into town this weekend for THREE WEEKS leading up to her wedding. She’ll be staying with us the whole time. She started season 1 last fall but didn’t finish. I am rather unsure at this point whether or not I want to talk her into finishing season 1 and season 2… I really feel like I do because I want her to share the beautiful parts of the story with me. But at the same time, there’s no way I’d let her go past 2×22. Maybe, just maybe we’d make it to 3×11. But I just don’t think so. But I was thinking, maybe this is a way for me to make peace with the series. Just watch it through her, with her, and end it before it gets messy. End it where I want to end it, and believe what I want to believe. It would be hard, yes to get through those episodes. But I feel like it’s harder now… I feel like it would be closure. Just to pretend they don’t even exist. I’d want to go to at least where Neal and Rumple make amends, though. Sighhhhh. That’s the thing. That’s what we’ve all been saying. I can’t remember who in particular said this a few pages back, but it’d be easier if they set up swanfire as a tragedy from the getgo. But all of this hope and Tallahassee just totally foreshadowing Neal’s reappearance and his sacrifice, etc….. it’s just so much harder. I guess what I am trying to say now is that I think I’ve finally finished mourning the show. After 322, it really is over. But Neal… he lives on in the seasons before, and his setup is painful to even think about rewatching. But I think I have to. For Neal. For myself. To remember him, the way he was supposed to be. Sounds painful, but I think I need it. Adam and Eddy, sure, they’ve messed things up big time, but I can confidently say, I don’t think it was entirely their fault. Networks ruin shows all the time. But A and E did give us something before they bowed to ABC. It’s an unfinished work, and it will probably always be unfinished. But I want to live it like there’s nothing past 222/309/310. I don’t want it to be tainted.
All these things I ponder while making my decision… *sigh*

ParticipantOn the healthier side, my mom used to make this all the time. It’s from Taste of Home as well. It’s a pineapple salsa for grilled tilapia, but I am sure it will go with just about any grilled fish. I’ve used it on mahi before. It’s SO simple but it’s so scrumptious!
Ingredients
2 cups cubed fresh pineapple (or canned rings/canned crushed)
2 green onions, chopped
1/4 cup finely chopped green pepper
1/4 cup minced fresh cilantro
4 teaspoons plus 2 tablespoons lime juice, divided
1/8 teaspoon plus 1/4 teaspoon salt, divided
Dash cayenne pepperwill top 8 tilapia fillets (4 ounces each)
And you basically just mix all the salsa ingredients together and chill before serving.
I never use the cayenne… and I always add a little bit of pineapple juice to the finished salsa.

ParticipantThis is one of my most favorite dishes to serve (well, to anyone who likes spinach and artichoke!).
I haven’t made it in ages, but I think I just might need to pull this one out again soon…Spinach and Artichoke Lasagna from Taste of Home Magazine:
TOTAL TIME: Prep: 25 min. Bake: 55 min. + standing MAKES: 12 servings
Ingredients
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 small onion, chopped
1/2 cup sliced fresh mushrooms
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 can (14-1/2 ounces) vegetable or chicken broth
1 can (14 ounces) water-packed artichoke hearts, drained and coarsely chopped
1 package (10 ounces) frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry
1 teaspoon dried rosemary, crushed
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1 jar (16 ounces) roasted garlic Parmesan or roasted garlic Alfredo sauce
ASSEMBLY:
12 no-cook lasagna noodles
3 cups (12 ounces) shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese, divided
1 cup crumbled tomato and basil feta cheese or feta cheese
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon each dried oregano, parsley flakes and basilI’ve never used the nutmeg, and even omitted the rosemary sometimes. It doesn’t make that much of a difference. The feta on the top of this really makes it though. It gets all golden and yummy. I just use plain feta.

ParticipantBtw, does anyone else feel that Hook gave Emma a bit too much credit in one of his speeches? He said that she defeated Pan and Zelena, but that’s not entirely true. In fact, in both cases Emma had very little to do with it. Rumple killed Pan and Regina disarmed Zelena and then Rumple killed her aswell. And while I’m at it, Regina broke the second curse with Henry. What exactly is Emma’s purpose these days?
That bothered me SO much! Those things weren’t even true. At all! How can they write this crap? Do they not remember their own story from a few episodes ago? SO frustrating. It is blatant carelessness.
