Oh yeah, I hadn’t thought of that. So, if they did do the Wizard of Oz in Once, would the slippers be Ruby or Silver? I could see people being really upset if they were ruby, but then again it won’t exactly be the same if they’re silver. It would probably be easier not to show them at all, but then I would be sad…
Oh! I just had a random thought! That crystal ball the Jefferson got for Rumple really reminded me of the one that’s in the Wizard of Oz movie. Not saying there’s a connection, just pointing out the similarities.
If anything, they should probably have the slippers wrapped up to hide what color they are, that way everyone is happy. Although, if they do show them, I’d wager they’d be ruby since more people are familiar with the 1939 movie, instead of the book.
A lot of movies use crystals, cauldrons, and birds ( mostly ravens & crows ) as means of spying.
So in effect, that crystal you see in the movie is a spyglass.[adrotate group="5"]cruel_fortunaParticipantFavorite Moment(s): Rumple being his usual snarky self, the conversation in the woods between Victor, Rumple & Jefferson. Plus Mulan, Emma, & Snow seeing through Hook’s ploy. Of course, it was also nice to finally have full confirmation of who Whale is/was, of course – it only just posed more questions – but that’s also something that I love.
Least Favorite: Daniel’s death, I don’t quite understand why his entire body had to turn to dust in the wind but it’s just a small nit-pick. David punching Dr. Whale annoyed me too, even if it was justified – he could lose his ‘temporary’ badge for stuff like that.
cruel_fortunaParticipantOh so that’s what he was saying. I knew it started with an ‘s’ but I couldn’t quite make it out.
Also, the ruby slippers are only ‘ruby’ in the movie, they’re silver slippers in the book.cruel_fortunaParticipant@ Faux Pax
“I feel a proposition . . . theory coming on!”
I think the story of Victor & his brother will probably be the lead in for season 3 because I’d wager by the end of this season, they’ll have or rather, need the ability to travel to other worlds. Theirs will just so happen to be ideal.
Glad they didn’t shatter you hopes dearie.
cruel_fortunaParticipantMy guess, seeing as his brother will have someone else’s heart, I’d say his brother might somehow tie in with the story of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. Normally I wouldn’t pose this hypothesis but seeing as we’ve introduced the idea of science being a greater power than magic, I’m guessing sci-fi stories are open as possibilities now. Along with fables, fairy-tales, legends & mythology.
cruel_fortunaParticipantFavorite Moment(s): “I am not a what.” , Regina relaxing her grip on Henry & perhaps moving slowly towards redemption & “It’s off to work we go.” Red being the voice of reason & getting David to stop everyone from leaving SB was pretty awesome too.
Least Favorite Moment(s): Henry really got on my nerves this episode, all his whining was starting to ware thin, thankfully Charming/David showed up & that appeased him. Also, Not enough August!
cruel_fortunaParticipantThe black case contained the following that I could see.
8 bottles minus 1 which is given to David/Charming with non-interference clause given as payment
( 3 on the left, 2 on the left/bottom compartment & 2 left on the right. )
Total of 7 left.1 drawstring satchel contents – unknown.
1 Notebook ( book? ) with a sun symbol embossed on it’s cover. *see image below*
( Sorry for the poor quality screen-cap. )
I did a bit of research & found the symbol could mean one of the following, perhaps:
A) The alcehmical sign for aurum ( gold ) / reference
or
B ) An American-Indian ideogram for the Sun / reference
cruel_fortunaParticipantMidas wasn’t technically a fairy-tale & it was still included as it tied in to Abigail’s story.
I think I’ll throw my hat into the ring & saw I agree with you.
Whale in my opinion is probably Hades; as you’ve stated.cruel_fortunaParticipantIf I recall correctly, the entrance/door to Hades was basically the mouth of a cavernous cave.
If you follow Greek myth though, there are various different locations that make up the ‘underworld’ as charming calls it.Technically much like in Dante’s ‘The Inferno’ the ‘underworld’ ( re: Hades ) has different layers.
For instance, Tartarus which is located beneath Hades as a separate realm; kind of like the nine realms of Hell described in the aforementioned text/book.So if Mulan & Company were to have to travel to the ‘underground’ – they’d need to start at the entrance to the Asphodel Meadows.
cruel_fortunaParticipant@KalliopeKisees My personal thinking is that the scenes in Storybrooke are happening alongside the happenings in Fairytale Land. Therein, that is how Regina avoids having her soul sucked because Phillip was marked at the same time in conjunction with the SB timeline & so the wraith was none the wiser that this was a different person. The wraith just wants the soul of the person who has been marked, simple as that.
@ jonathanmorgan They do seem to make a point of using symbols & stories which can be interpreted with a litany of different results. It’s also interesting to note that the Grimm brothers also wrote/research the etymology of runes & so that’s a possible tie-in.
@ Marilou I was hyper-focusing on one side but I went back & went frame by frame & you’re right. There is something embossed on the other side of the medallion. From what I can tell it looks to be an imprint of a leaf ( or perhaps some type of tree ). But being that it looks more like a leaf to me, I did some digging & if it is in fact a leaf, it seems to most match a birch leaf.
That being said, I found this interesting bit about birch trees :
If strips of birch bark are gathered beneath the new moon, one can write a short spell requesting true love before burning it with specific love related incense or by casting it into a stream or other body of flowing water. Since the birch is for new beginnings though, the spell must not be said with a particular person in mind or it might corrupt or even turn the spell into a curse.
Also if you go by the Celtic Tree Alphabet ( known as Ogham ) then birch is called Beith. In keeping with Celtic lore, it’s also believed that these trees are associated with the land of the dead ( in Gaelic folklore ), so that symbol on the reverse of the medallion might have an association with death or returning from the grave.
Birch also utilizes the Proto-Germanic rune called Berkanan, which states that birch trees are regarded as sacred and associated with spring fertility rites. Norse myth also associates the birch tree as sometimes being labeled as the world tree ( Yggdrasil ). All this being said though, most Anglo-Saxon & Mezzo-American languages had runes so I could list tons but I think these were the pertinent ones to the other symbol you had mentioned.
@ Hannah I think that both Mulan & Aurora will embark on this quest & they’ll probably enlist Snow & Emma because they’ll feel it’s their fault. Where Snow & Emma will agree because in a way, it is their fault because they brought the wraith back because they’d mistakenly thought they’d be banishing it to oblivion ( which in retrospect – it’s a good thing this piece of FTL still existed otherwise poor Snow & Emma would have been trapped in a void with that thing & well, … it probably wouldn’t have ended well. )
