I have implemented a new chat room as a test.
[adrotate group="5"]Daniel J. LewisKeymasterChatWING is no longer an affordable option for us. They changed their pricing structure from “pay per feature” to a flat fee. This quadruples the fees for us.
Thus, I’ve had to temporarily remove the chat room while I search for a replacement. I have one in mind that will probably cost more than ChatWING used to, but less than ChatWING will cost now.
Daniel J. LewisKeymasterThanks, RG and Matt!
Everyone else, this is to prevent copyright infringements. You may quote small portions, but not a substantial portion of an article.
Daniel J. LewisKeymasterThis chat (ChatRoll) isn’t working out at this price point. So I’ll be trying another premium solution called FlyZoo. Unfortunately, it costs too much to have on multiple websites (like on the live page), but it make work well for here.
If FlyZoo doesn’t work out, then I’ll have to go back to ChatWING.
Daniel J. LewisKeymasterFor mobile users, there needs to be a post button on the chat.
Does pressing your keyboard’s Enter button not work?

@Phee, what you observed is called responsive web design. It’s where elements of a website will respond based on the size of your browser window. When the chat room got wide, it would display the online people on the right. When it was narrow, it would display on the top. But considering that more people want to chat than see who else is online, I changed the option for the online users to always be on the top.
@TheWatcher, you still see everyone else’s messages, right? What browser are you using?October 27, 2014 at 12:15 am in reply to: SOLVED: https and Chrome users missing videos and chat room #287609Daniel J. LewisKeymasterBy now, this should be resolved. If you’re still getting redirected to https and missing the chat room and embeds, then change your address from https:// to http://. Make sure than any future links you use are also using http.

The problem should take care of itself with a little time. But if your Chrome is still forcing you to use https, then watch my video below for how to reset settings for just oncepodcast.com (and not all of your other history).
Daniel J. LewisKeymasterIs this still happening?
October 22, 2014 at 8:37 am in reply to: Scheduled maintenance, Wednesday morning, October 22 #286829Daniel J. LewisKeymasterThe rebuild is complete and the website should be more stable.
This should also fix the problem of missing emails—subscribed threads, reply notifications, direct messages, and sign-up confirmations.
Technical details, in case you care:
I had moved our web-hosting from an expensive, managed, WordPress-optimized host to a self-managed VPS. This should save us significant money each month. But I was a bit too focused on the fastest performance and chose HHVM to run PHP instead of standard PHP or the more optimized PHP-FPM. Unfortunately, HHVM isn’t 100% compatible with things like our backup system. It also didn’t have adequate email sending. And as you could tell, this was not very stable as the website would crash about every thirty minutes. HHVM has no built-in mechanism to reboot itself, so I had to place a monitor to reboot it when it would crash, but there would still be a minute delay. So I rebuilt the VPS, this time with a more tried and tested collection of backend technology. It should be far more stable and still give us performance improvements and better reliability than before.
Thank you for your patience!
