On another board there’s a fan fic called “Fine Points and Prices” that offers a plausible answer to the escape question. It also explains why Rumple helped EQ with the curse. It’s a well-written story too. 😀
[adrotate group="5"]darcyfarrowParticipantThe individual who enacts the curse has to kill the thing he/she most loves; I don’t think Rumple could do that. If this curse really did put an end to all other curses, perhaps Rumple thought that would make it impossible for EQ and others like her to destroy people again; it would also make him a human again; and it would mean people would have to turn to each other instead of magic to solve problems. All around, it seems to be a good deal for everyone if magic is replaced by free will and love.
I wish I had an inkling as to how Baelfire will return. I’m just hoping that it happens, and that we don’t get a Sun/jin resolution.
darcyfarrowParticipantWe know that Gold helped build the town; it seems likely he was involved in planning the library. Got to be an interesting story there about who closed the library down and why. Of course, most public libraries are municipal departments, so they exist at the pleasure of the city council…which brings us directly to Regina. As a librarian myself, my second-most burning question (after the one whether Belle and Bae will find Gold) is who was the librarian? I’m looking forward to his or her triumphant return and the reopening of his/her domain.
darcyfarrowParticipantIf EQ did choose the names, I find it interesting she didn’t give Gold a first name. A sign of respect, perhaps? Or perhaps she did give him a first name and has never revealed it….I’m more unlined, though, to think each person chose his own name and Gold has never told anyone what first name he selected because of the names-knowing-means-power-over-the-person thing.
darcyfarrowParticipantHmm, it might be helpful to take note of who he’s with when his skin takes on a particular hue. Or maybe it’s what he’s doing…maybe more glittery when he’s making a deal, more grey when he’s spinning (and trying to forget.)
darcyfarrowParticipantThat’s hilarious! Thanks for asking the question for all of us inquiring minds, rumplegoldfan.
darcyfarrowParticipantGold: “What did you come here to steal?”
Belle: “Your heart, of course, and this time I won’t take ‘go’ for an answer.”

Suffice it to say, each number represented one of the main characters who were under consideration for the position of Protector of the island. Since the island has special, unique properties, it’s been sort of a holy grail; it needs protecting from exploiters. The current protector, Jacob, knows that someday his time will come to an end, so he is on the lookout for his successor. He builds a device that allows him to observe from afar; each number is a setting on the device’s dial: Jacob can set the dial at 8, for example, and watch Hugo Reyes. Through these observations, Jacob chooses a group of people who he thinks would make good successors, and he brings them to the island. Eventually out of this group of candidates, one emerges as the next protector.
There’s a lot more to it than that, but I think that what would be more useful to Once fans is to know the basic tenants of Lost, which include
*you always have a choice
*take responsibility for your own actions, but learn to forgive yourself and others
*balance science with faith
*communicate with each other
*rules may seem arbitrary, but we need them to live peaceably*live together or die alone
darcyfarrowParticipantFavorite moment: Granny settling into her rocker with her crossbow at the ready–and you just know she’d use it, too! You go, granny girl!
Least favorite: the scene in which Rumple DIDN’T appear. Aw gee, not even one measly little scene? Not even a walk-through from Mr. G? Second least favorite: finding the box in the woods, just a few episodes after we saw Gold out there with a shovel. Ooohhh nooooo…don’t let it be.
darcyfarrowParticipantIt’s been suggested that Gold hypnotized David when David came into the pawnshop to ask directions. If so, perhaps this current state is a result. I don’t want to think so, but…if I combine that with Gold’s “spot of gardening,” I have to wonder.
