ParticipantA funny story. Went to dinner and Roomie was quick to point out the (completely random and out of place) bison sculpture hangin’ out in the dining room. Needless to say I had to take a picture… hilariously, though, the family at the table next to us finished dinner as I was photographing him (yeah, definitely a him…) and Dad randomly decided he needed to come over and start photographing too. Lol!!!! NO idea why he needed a bison photo, but Other Roomie was dying laughing.

ParticipantThe funny thing about CS gloating about endgame right now is – the show is not over. A lot can change in just a short season… 221 vs 322 is evidence of that (or not, depending on the angle you view it from.) We might get a whole season of CS romance in S4 – and it’s what I’m steeling myself for – but there are a number of other routes they could go, including but not limited to telling a CS story to please the network without going so far as making it the happy ending to Emma’s fairytale. The writers have done some really peculiar things with their storytelling as of late and unless you are, well, Snowing – you’d do well not to count your chickens. (And they even managed to muck up Snowing’s ALREADY CANON story, so even then!! They literally spent an eleventh of their season retconning their core duo! I swear I have NO idea what these people were thinking with the back half of this season… nightmare indeed.)

ParticipantGotcha, Millie. I thought you were saying fans were claiming the AH tweet was about the poll.
Yeah, RG. 3/4 and then we get Dr Seuss & Blarggle. Really, the road less taken was a far prettier option *sigh*
And Ranisha’s right. Pretty much any Internet poll can be skewed by spamming. Been on both ends of that one in the decade and a half I’ve done Internet fandom lol.

ParticipantWas the blog trying to
imply that AH quote was about that poll? Because it… wasn’t. You can twist just about anything out of context. What he said they were “going for” was the poetry of the SF story. And congrats AH, you got about 3/4 of the way there!!Cause this story needs some mending & a better happy ending...

ParticipantSomething tells me Puck could fix all the things. (Can we let Puck write the show?)

ParticipantSo much replying necessary in the thread, not enough time. For now, seriously guys – this is my life. Got nannykid dressed the other day, grabbed a bright, cheery tee out of his drawer. He’s worn it dozens of times, probably, but we were sitting there at breakfast and I looked across the table at him and noticed, for the first time, the graphic on the left shoulder. And I just started laughing. And every time I looked at this kid’s shirt, all morning, I just laughed. Because, really? Really? This is my life…

ParticipantI want to reply to so much more, but for this moment, I want to yeahthat ^ that graphic. For me, I recall having moments this season (3A) and maybe even towards the end of 2 where I definitely felt that tug on the heart strings towards SF. It took every ounce of willpower NOT to google a forum after 311. But what absolutely shattered my resolve was the series rewatch, which left me jaw-on-the-floor in awe of this story. Somewhere between watching the breadcrumbs sprinkled through S1 and truly, for the first time, grasping and understanding Bae’s tale – from tiny boy who lost his mother through the self-sacrificial youth who gave up THREE different families in an attempt to help others, then quietly and respectfully tried to gain his family back once he could – this series is so, so much richer for the rewatch. It went from being this collection of random fairytale stories in my mind to this huge overarching tale where every story told had a purpose in the larger arc of lost girl + lost boy finding home, together. And realizing that not only had me view favorite episodes (Pilot) with new appreciation but made me appreciate episodes I had hated the first time around (True North) because I finally understood their inclusion in the series.
What they did with this show is truly a thing of beauty. Until… they didn’t any more, and as someone whose rewatch concluded just at the airing of 315, it was REALLY abrupt. Story was plodding along just fine… until it went off the rails. That final scene, though, just fits in so amazingly well with that original tale. Emma’s arc in life was both defined and guided by her relationship with Neal, bad AND good, so the Emma that everyone loves? Yeah. You’re welcome. That’s SF. The reason for the curse and the savior of the curse… frickin’ poetry, people.

ParticipantI should probably add, I have a somewhat skewed view of the industry. I’ve seen how it works, I’ve seen the games “the powers that be” play with people, leveraging them against each other, leveraging their artistry, leveraging their personal careers and the careers of others. I had the misfortune some years ago of having an inside peek of how things really work, and how sometimes you get backed into a corner and your choices are bad or worse. In this situation, I was ready to villify the showrunners, but the fact of the matter is that for me, what we saw on the screen doesn’t support that. I’ve watched this industry tear people apart – good people, people I loved to death – and I’ve watched people try to cling to a modicum of the reason they sought the industry out in the first place. And I have seen someone stubbornly cling to their artistry, and what the entertainment industry can and will do to you if you don’t bow. So it might be the A&E are giant poopheads who decided to run after the $$$ they saw in the guyliner-ed eyes of Captain Hook, poetry and beautiful story be darned. Or it might be that they are guys who were told by their network, “This is where we see the $$$, you can choose to write as you want in the detail but you’ll follow along with our plan,” and in an industry that is ultimately very tiny, there are some spots you know not to cross. I am at the moment choosing to believe the latter, because that’s what makes the most sense to me given my experiences – and IF that is the case, I forsee them trying to redeem a modicum of the story they had planned on for a decade before the cover closes on OUAT once and for all.
Even in that, I’m settling in for a long road and that makes me very, very frustrated. This wasn’t supposed to go this way, and I can’t for even a single moment say it doesn’t suck and hurt far worse than any entertainment venue should.
