ParticipantI feel ya, Slurpeez. Completely. You are a girl after my own heart here, beginning to sound like me & Phee. 🙂
If we watch the story, what we see on screen, what is broadcast on TV – then a return of Neal (and death of Hook, if we want to fulfil spoiler of doom) by far makes the most sense. I maintain – have always maintained – that there are clues in 312-314 that should not be there if there is permanent death in 315. The fact that those clues persist PAST 315, as far out as into 319, really is a humdinger. A lot of the stuff in 319 is a head-scratcher; why take the time to set up those call-backs and parallels if you’re not going to use them? That Snow bit about looking for Charming and not knowing where he is or about his sacrifice… ugh. Could not have described Emma better for 313-315 if you tried. And then Charming is revived. Is it insane not to expect the same for Neal?
I was thinking today about my long history with soap operas. There, it is common for characters to come and go from the show, sometimes over decades, even. Sometimes they die and come back, sometimes they just move away and return. But the hallmark – the way you know a character has an impending return – is when their name is randomly spoken after years away. “Hey, I got a phone call from my niece Jane today.” Um, ok? Jane has been off the canvas for three years. A week later, someone else, “Remember when my sister Jane and I went to the sock hop when we were teenagers and she caught me kissing you, Boyd? Oh, those were fun times.” Yep. Jane is on her way back, probably within the month.
It’s the same principal for Neal. If they killed him to do CS, they needed to 1) let him fade as quickly as possible and 2) DO CS! Since he is still mentioned – mentioned and seen, even! – plus the lack of CS ramping up, I just don’t think that’s what’s going on here. We’ll see what happens in 320 but like it or not, I am looking toward that finale with a glint in my eye. I wish I wasn’t, the fall will hurt so much harder than if I wholeheartedly expected it, but yet I am.

ParticipantThat’s a lot of houses in Sad Town, text! Does it house all of those who will be suffering from DO322?

ParticipantLOL Lecygne!
I cross-posted with you, but I’d like to posture that both tents actually have logic.  Le Tent has logical, whole-space logic, whereby you look at what has happened on the show, the interviews, the tweets, etc etc and make the REASONABLE conclusion that MO322 is nothing but a pipe dream and we should probably pack some sweaters because Sad Town, in all its greyness, looks awfully bleak and cold.  But, the Tent of Optimism is not entirely insane – although as always I will concede that it is mostly insane – because there IS logic there.  There is *story-based* logic there.  When you tune out all of the outside factors and JUST watch the show, look at the buildup, look at the fact that they’ve resurrected every other dang character (they crushed Charming’s heart – CRUSHED IT to cast a dark curse! – and still he lives… Neal still has his heart, and we can’t even *try* to TLK him back, really?!) it’s not completely insane.  They have laid this out as a Phoenix-based story, so dying in a firey blaze and springing back to life is indeed an expected turn of events.  It’s just when you factor in things like, “Writers say he’s dead and never coming back” that it begins to look quite crazy.  🙂
Plus, we have Captain Kirk, and I am sure that trumps all of the other things. Â Except it makes me feel bad the tent is such a shanty. Â Perhaps I should have accepted some of the gradiose offerings Rainbow wanted to give us, instead of insisting on staying here under this table. Â But, you know, the sky is falling after all…

ParticipantOh BTW, I love the fact that in that scene, Rumple says, “Have Bae come back with us,” and she’s all, “Huh uh, no way Jose!” and his response is, “Meh, you want him back, just admit it.” Â She weakly tries to protest before they get interrupted, but darn if the very next scene isn’t her trying to get him to come back to Storybrooke! Â I’ll take that as an admission, lmao.
Today has been a very melancholy day over at camp DSB. Â Just pondering how these writers have set up the story of this broken, lost girl, and given her exactly TWO people she’s said “I love you” to. Â She hasn’t even managed to say it to her parents! Â And then they go and take one away. Â It’s mean, writers, and you say this story is supposed to be her fairytale?! Â If we are telling Disney, happy-ending style fairytales, it’s just WRONG. Â They opt to not kill Charming in Pilot, because if they did, Snow could never get her happy ending. Â Then they crush his heart, wait wait, they make SNOW crush his heart, and STILL manage to revive him, via magical heart-splitting plot contrivance. Â So Snow cannot have her happy ending without Charming, but it’s cool if Emma has to figure hers out with a big ol’ Neal-shaped hole in her heart? Â She loved the man for a dozen years, despite a huge act of betrayal, enough that he is the first person she ever said “I love you” to in her whole life, enough that her biggest secret in the WHOLE WORLD is that she loved him, and the idea of wrestling with that love again was immensely painful. Â And just meh, fine, whatever? Â Why oh why oh why do we have “You want a second chance with that man” and “I love you and probably always will” and “I’ll never stop fighting for you” and “I’ll see you both again” and and and and AND?!
It’s a rhetorical question. Â No one needs to answer. Â They changed course, none of the bullhonkey they sowed is relevent, and CS by 322. Â Got it. Â That’s what they tell me. Â But as a viewer – not as a fan, not as someone who is involved in fanbasing or shipping – just as a viewer who tunes in on Sunday nights – I gotta tell you it makes me sad. Â That’s a whole lot of hours of storytelling down the drain, and no new storytelling to replace it once they had the chance. Â (Why did they not build the CS relationship from 316? Â Hey, make him a shoulder to cry on and then Emma can realize she’s falling for him. Â Just build it up SOMEHOW A&E?)
Dang Logical Brain says, what we see *onscreen* fits so much better with MO322 than CS by 322.  But Guarded Heart says, “Don’t expect it, they WILL fail you, and it will be as bad as 315 all over again.”  I just wish, if they felt the need to go this route, they made it make SENSE to me.  So I am over here throwing a pity party and youtubing “ELEVEN!” and “I need you!” and “From the moment I saw you in New York” and “We were happy Once” and being generally hacked off at the waste of amazing storytelling that built up this poetic fairytale love story and traded it in for blarggle.  Blarggle, really?!  Sigh.  It makes me mad enough to spit nails.

ParticipantThat, my friends, is what we call the general audience. 🙂 (It doesn’t make it what’s going to happen, but if you *don’t* have access to the spoiler of doom, I would imagine MO322 is the expectation. It certainly is for the GA in my household, and they DO know about the spoiler of doom!)
To follow up on Slurpeez’ brilliant post – I totally get what you are going for, and it is right on the wavelength that I travel on – I wanted to bring up some other interesting/parallel lines.  I watched Queen is Dead and Miller’s Daughter the other night – stuck at work on a night shift and bored – since I figured I had seen Manhattan enough and should perhaps move forward. 😉 There were a number of interesting things in those episodes, that I felt tied into 318 & 319. For instance, I felt like the whole conversation about flowers was odd and out of place in 319, with Snow’s explanation just being, “Snowbells!” – but in 215, they show Eva holding a Eva held a Snowbell as she lies in state and I believe that’s the same flower Johanna is growing. Plus, they introduce the life-for-a-life candle bit, which is the story with the vault and with the candle, which they JUST brought back up in 318.  I also did not see, at the time, the fact that TQID was illustrating a parallel between Snow, losing her mom, and Neal, losing his Dad – went right over my head, but it was crystal-clear in rewatch, though I’m guessing that was discussed and I was just dense.  Anyways, the thing that is relevent to this discussion is actually a relook at the pizza discussion I quoted a few pages back. There are some other lines in that same scene that IMO “anchor” it to the current episodes. Bolding mine…
Neal: So, uh…You like pizza?
Henry: Yeah. L-let me guess. You’re gonna tell me the best pizza’s in New York and I gotta try it, right?
Neal: Actually, it’s in the Kingdom of Damarian on the north shore of the Dragon Fields of Zorn. Nah, it’s in New York. Here, let’s get you a slice.
Henry: So you’re really from there?
Neal: Yeah, I am.
(Neal and Henry enter the pizza shop whilst Emma and Mr. Gold stand outside)
Emma: Do you think that we should…
Mr. Gold: If we were welcome, I feel confident an invitation would have been extended. It’s a sad truth that the people closest to us are the ones capable of causing us the most pain. That’s our common ground, Ms. Swan.
Emma: Guess my lying to him just caught up with me.
Mr. Gold: Ah, give him time. He’ll forgive you.
Emma: Is that you projecting your own hopes?
Mr. Gold: (Scoffs) My son and I have some way to go.
Emma: I can see that.
Mr. Gold: I need you to speak to him. Try and convince him to come back to Storybrooke with us.
Emma: If I recall, it was only one favour I owed you, and I think I’m paid up.
Mr. Gold: This isn’t about me anymore. You’ll do it for Henry.
Emma: How do you figure that?
Mr. Gold: Well, because if you don’t, you’re gonna wake up one morning and discover he’s hopped on a bus back to New York. He ran away to Boston to be with you. He’ll do the same thing for his father.
Emma: Until Neal lets him down, which he will. It’ll be a hard lesson, but then at least Henry will understand that I lied to protect him.
Mr. Gold: Someone’s beginning to sound a lot like Regina. I think the real reason you lied was to protect yourself.
Emma: What’s that supposed to mean?
Mr. Gold: From getting hurt again.
Emma: That’s not happening.
Mr. Gold: You want a second chance with that man.
Emma: What makes you think that?
Mr. Gold: The look on your face.
Emma: You have no idea what—
Neal: What are we talking about?
Henry: Emma, Neal wanted to show me the museum. Do you think we can go back to the apartment and get my camera?
Neal: Yeah, well, I…kids like culture, right?
Emma: Sure. Yeah, that’s fine. You like the New York pizza?
Henry: Yeah. It’s delicious, cheesy, and doesn’t lie.Okay. Â So, there is the NYPizza thing, which is apparently a theme. Â Who knew. Â Then, we have the mention of the camera, which lays out the visit to Neal’s apartment in 312 – which tells me they were setting things up in this scene with an eye towards the future. Â Then, there is the mention of hopping on a bus back to NYC. Â Henry just tried to do that! Â And lastly there is the mention, again, of “second chances.”
These items might be coincidental, but fining them ALL in one scene is, IMO, a bit suspect.  In all honesty, I watched those two episodes and felt a bit like I did when roomies and I started watching S1 a couple of months ago… knowing “the future,” you can see it written allllll over those episodes.  As Rumple says in TMD, “When you see the future as I do, irony is everywhere!”  They’re not my favorites, but it was really interesting to see them in the “new light” of now.

ParticipantThere are still two corners to the room, you can pitch a tent 🙂 Put it next to the “What happened?!” taco truck and we will be in business!
We are equal opportunity tent purveyors. Or… something.
If we get MO322 we are moving to actual ROOMS!

ParticipantRG, how about if you tell me something I didn’t already know?
I blame the liars, the liars, the liars from my last ship. I lost all of my marbles there, I have not gotten them back.
If I HAD my marbles, I wouldn’t have my tent-under-a-table. But I rather like it, so they can keep my marbles.

Participant“Frau Engel”
No idea who “Frau Engel” is but I think they are the architect for our MO322 ship. 🙂
