Was listening to the radio as I drove to work and they were talking about some snake guy – anyways. Doesn’t matter. They mentioned him having cobras & how he could bring in a cobra and it made me think, Operation Cobra.
Then it dawned on me – after writing that this morning about the necklaces – THAT is probably the tie-in. The snake necklace = symbol of rebirth a la Phoenix. Both items have been there since S1, kind of random – but then like so many things in S1, laying groundwork for the SF stuff that was to follow. Utterly convinced they are tied together; it’s so obvious I wanted to facepalm while driving.
Why is Operation Cobra back on, anyways? Wasn’t O:C invoked to break the curse? Which is already broken? Beginning to suspect O:C V2 has far more to do with regenerating our firebird than it does with breaking any curse.
I am a little frightened of how convinced I am, this morning, of something that is almost certainly not going to happen. And yet, it feels like it has to. WTF? DSB, you’ve really lost it this time.

My tent is getting full! It’s a good thing it’s a short walk between me & RG, past the cocoa & cookies table. Can’t even remember who all is in which tent anymore. Good thing canvas is stretchy! 🙂

Phee, love the home mention. Didn’t think about it that way! I, too, noticed the GoT truck. Maybe because he’s a thorn in SF’s side? If you wanted to draw it out, we had Henry start to open the door – Hook prevented him and slammed it shut. Preventing him access to his family’s home? (Yeah, I think it’s reaching a bit.)
I just – the first thing Neal ever said to Emma, as she stole his car – “You could have just asked for the keys.” Now their kid asks for the keys, so he can steal the car. Sounds a bit like poetry to me… and unquestionably not an accident.
Maybe, oh maybe, just maybe… maybe we are moving away from Blarggle towards “I took the road less traveled.”

Because why on earth bother to have such a clear callback to a story that should be complete and utter toast? Why name an episode after plot parallels in a triangle that no longer exists. It wasn’t a small investment – it was the title.
It just makes me think of Price of Gold – how it appears to be Cinderella’s story, but it was said to be an Emma-centric ep. Looking back on it years later, yep, sure was. The story of Tallahassee is buried all over that ep, that and True North. Likewise, this ep was Snowing centric, but really – it did far more to advance the supposedly-over triangle than anything for Snowing.
BTW. An unrelated note. Have we discussed how Glinda said Zelena’s power is in her *necklace*? Well isn’t that interesting. Who else has necklaces that might be important? (Remember, in addition to the obvious & significant keychain, she has the circle which IIRC is an ouroboros – which was around the edge of the vault, as well as being symbolic of death & rebirth, and closely paralleled with the Phoenix. BTW, when checking my spelling, I found this link and was struck by the dreamcatcher-esque image halfway down the page. Huh.)
Yeah, after that ep – the items above and Slurp’s WoT quote – I am beginning to wonder if MO322 might actually be on the horizon. Whodathunk?

Dear show, I hate you.
It is 3AM and I am up – yet again – thinking about this stupid show. Thoughts start and then they swirl and swirl and I have to get them out so here we be :p
I am probably cannibalizing my future 3×19 essay, but whatever, I think these items should be shared sooner rather than later.
Mostly, I am pondering those Henry scenes towards the beginning of the episode. At first I was all, “Aww, Henry and the bug,” but then I started to unpack it in my mind. THEY HAD HENRY (attempt to) STEAL THE BUG. That is such an enormous and undeniably SF thing. And last night, I was super hung up on that, because feels and aww and whatnot. But at 3AM, I pondered it differently. Henry asked for the keys. In the back of my head, I hear Neal’s voice, “You could have just asked for the keys.” In that same scene, Henry referenced being in prison. I am now dying to rewatch that scene and see what ELSE might be packed in there, because I suspect there is more. It will be at LEAST tonight before I get to a rewatch, maybe tomorrow, and it’s kinda killing me right now!
(And with regards to SF’s kiddo doing an undeniably SF thing – who was standing in the way, again? Hook. Huh. Symbolically, he walked the kid away from his parents’ heritage and instead tried to put him on his ship… and Mama was hot pissed about that. Interesting.)
With regards to the song lyrics – holy cow. I actually came to post because something dawned on me about them (get there in a sec) but that line about the dove… holy cow.
The lyric that stuck in my mind is, “Makes one man weep, makes another man sing.” This afternoon, it occurred to me that perhaps they would set it up such that each guy in the triangle would be one of those characteristics – and they did. In this episode, they posthumously *continued* showing us the triangle – Neal, whose power of love was so great he was able to temporarily overcome magical absorbtion to save his family; Hook, whose inclination was to revert to lying, kidnapping, etc. Who is weeping, and who is singing.
But that about the dove – they actually put that IN THE SHOW. So let’s get this straight, this song is important enough to name the episode after – and then they opted to embody one of the concepts of the song by hauling back their dead guy for one 30-second scene? The fact that they had MRJ return to Vancouver for one puddly scene is… yeah. And “sing,” ha, when one recalls a mental image of Snow White (Disney’s Snow) with her songbirds, she is indeed singing. So if we are supposed to see this as a Snow-Neal parallel then I don’t think it’s TOO insane to say Neal is the one made to sing. (And I believe we ARE supposed to see that parallel – in 312 Hook assumed it was her (Charming’s, “It does sound like you,”) and we were reminded again in 3×19 that it was supposedly Snow who sent it.)
Whyyyyyyy bother? Seriously, A&E, seriously? You don’t develop character after death!! They continued to have this character sacrifice himself. To illustrate him as the better suited of the two rivals – in this same episode, in which they showed Neal again a hero, they showed Hook again a villain. And if triangle is dead, finit, kaput, why bother?
I think, here at 3:44AM, I have begun to truly hope for the first time MO322 is actually a possibility. Not just maintain it could potentially happen, but believe that it really actually might. Amazing. I have logic’d myself into hope.

One last thing. Now, I have that song stuck in my head and I hear Huey Lewis wailing, “It might just save your life…” NealFire? It’s a stretch but they DID name the episode after the song…

Sure, but even if she glosses over Hook’s transgressions (which I don’t think she will, I think the snowball is starting to unravel with regards to him,) there has been no buildup for TLK. This is EMMA’s TL. They are going to spend SOME time on it… she’s the protagonist of the show! It ain’t happenin’, not this season. I’m more inclined to think they’ll kill it altogether, thinking that if no side of the triangle wins, they will fix the fanbase wars. Kill one side literally, the other figuratively, and then move on to a new interest – or no interest – (or a monkey interest -) in S4.

So, here’s a question, y’all. We suppose(d) they killed Neal in 3×15 so that they would have 16-22 to develop CS, so they could CS it up for the finale. But… they haven’t. There has been somewhere between no CS, and negative traction for CS, since then. That’s an indicator to me that that is not what’s going on here…
I still say we’re not getting any CS TL business by the finale. I don’t think we’re getting CS at all. They now have two episodes (a standalone and a two-hour movie) to wrap it up, and they are nowhere NEAR the point a duo should be to get together. It’s not happening – at least not this season.

OH YEAH Slurp, I forgot about that!! There was a ton of stuff in this ep, just a ton. But I definitely caught that wheel of time reference, so there we go with the balefiring again.

What victory? CS had no victory tonight. If anything there were some small SF victories.
Don’t count us out yet, guys. Momentum is building towards the end of the season, and the pendulum is swinging. Hang on, we might get there yet.

OMG, I have essays to write, guys. Tonight’s episode was bizarre, but… it doesn’t put me any further away from believing in the possibility of MO322.
And uh – they had Henry stealing the bug. HELLO!! Not enough adoration in the world for that!
