Forgot about the crazy spinning nightmare dreamcatcher in 314. That was a Thing, too. And that shot would have been super-easy to edit out if there was a gear-change between 314 & 315.
I need to write a big post about “this is what it would look like If.” Gonna go start it now, but probably won’t finish until tonight.
Also? If this has been the plan for the season all along, I darn well expect to see the counterpart to the echo cave scene. I NEED to see Emma realize that no, it’s indeed NOT easier for him to be dead than to walk the path that leads to togetherness. That would be an ENORMOUS character development for Emma “walls up” Swan, and I NEED it. Need it right now, A&E!

Agree that all of that from 3A is significant. What gets me is the things in 3B – they have her go to his apartment in 312. There were other ways to get her to drink the potion, you know? So, ok, the course-change was after that, you say. As of 312 we were still getting SF. And in 313, she pondered his whereabouts, concerned – twice. So 314? Someone made the argument, a few pages back (Phee?) that they have scripts in various stages of production at all times, so once they knew 315 was going to be his death, they would be able to tweak the earlier episodes, you know?
The thing for me that I’ve gone back to a lot lately is the broken dreamcatcher in 312. Understanding, now, the concept of balefire – that is why the dreamcatcher was broken. Neal’s thread had been (would be? Kinda confused on sequencing, lol) burned back. BTW they used this concept with the Blue Fairy; once Shadow was burned, it undid her death. Anyways. So by 312, they had his death in 315 planned. Yet in 312 & 313 there was SF stuff. Why?
I think as viewers, we are SUPPOSED to be feeling that Neal-shaped void. They were building to reunion and then, bam, death. There are so so so many things that tell me SF was the crown jewel of their true love couple trifecta – her parents, his Dad & love, and the two of them. Yes, there are other TL couples (Erial, Philora, Katherine/Frederick, Ella/Thomas, etc) but they are fairly simple stories: lovers, obstacle, overcome it, together. There are just these three that we walk through the wringer with, whose trials and tribulations we see, and who are woven into the very fabric of the show. It’s way too carefully done to toss it away overnight – and then just move on as nothing has happened.
I’ve been batting the idea around that perhaps by season’s end, we’ll see Henry with his own magic… and perhaps that will assist in righting the ship. This ship needs to be righted. The future of the show depends on it.
On the plus side, I am of the belief that if we get MO322, we are getting the whole da** thing – return, TLK, “togetherness.” I don’t think we’ll have any question that they are endgame by season’s end.
(Unless ABC screwed it up and we get DO322… in which case I guess there still won’t be a question lol. But I am with Phee in being in a mood – he’ll be back. Today, I am willing to hang my hat on it.)

I decided the other day that I was hacked at Neal. He freaking told them he would see them BOTH again. I am holding his darn arse to that, he had better find a way to stop being dead and parent his kid. His kid deserves that!
My plan is, if I will it hard enough, I can make it come true. No Neal dead. No CS TL. Because. I say no.
(I am done being rational and am moving into brathood. It has worked for everyone else, so…)
Anyways, for serious, they are not TL. And portraying manipulative, borderline abusive relationships as love is NOT OK. Love is not what Hook has shown – is showing – to Emma. Sure, he has his moments, but then don’t most abusers? I am choosing to have enough faith in humanity that they are not going to label this relationship as true love. Because if they do… there are not strong enough words in the world. Love does not do the things that Hook has done. Lying, cheating, teaching her child to cheat, throwing her at the wall (!!) IS NOT LOVE. No. I cannot and will not accept it.
They want bold? How about calling Hook out, and sending a clear message to young viewers that this is not a healthy relationship. Lying, manipulation, and physical violence are not forgivable just because the perpetrator is “hot” or has a bad boy image. THAT would be a bold story to tell – and I could get behind it a thousand percent. Maybe even if Neal stayed dead, if they told it well enough. On the upside, I won’t have to make that determination, because they won’t. Which, unfortunately, sucks.
But I hold out faith that they won’t call it true love. Because I honestly cannot deal with the reality that they will.

Can true love be based on lies? No, of course not. And that is my general audience argument of why we may be “going” CS right now, but we are not going CS. The show has been careful to paint Hook in a questionable or negative light. I never did get around to posting my 317 thoughts, but it was a banner episode for CS, and not in a good way.
TL is defined by selflessness and self-sacrifice; by putting others in front of yourself. As GA, you saw a guy willing to lay down his life for Emma & co, then turned right around and saw another guy show cheating and mis-truths to “win” her. At the risk of sounding pro-CS, his “I will win your heart” business COULD have been romantic – albeit a bit forceful for my tastes – if he had really been shown to woo her by learning what was important to her, making choices that put her/her family above himself, etc. Instead he ditched her family as soon as they returned to the EF, and has been shown as willing to lie and murder to get what he wants. He may be being written as a convicted villain, but he is not being written as a true love match of the heroine of the show.
Perhaps they will leave Emma’s true love dead; my optimism is significant that we will see otherwise, but I make allowance that he will not return. But I am CERTAIN Hook will not be shown as her true love. They have made too many moves (even during and post-315, when supposedly the big shift happened,) that show Hook as far too questionable. COULD they have redeemed Hook as a worthy love for Storybrooke’s savior? Yes, they could have… but they did not. The buildup of the story dictates that very soon, we should see the beginning of Hook’s misdeeds begin to unravel – perhaps as soon as 319, it sounds like. They have had too many weird, intentional, pointed moments to sweep them under the rug.
And if I’m wrong, not only will I use my cowpoke to move those bison, I’ll dress and eat them myself… despite the fact that I’ve been vegetarian for 20 years :p

Stupid thing, maybe already discussed but – everyone acting OOC – effect of the curse? Idiot Charmings, Emma’s love for magic, Rumple being okay with Bae being dead… Not sure how that would explain Neal’s idiocy in the 315 lost year, but it sure could neatly magical hand wave the rest of it…

On my way home now, but just have to say… I love this little tiny fanbase. I am beginning to dread DO322 more and more – not because if it happens it will be the nail in the coffin of my ship – but because it will mean the end of hope for this fanbase. I love you guys to death… is it really possible I’ve been here for just a month? Y’all are the awesomest 🙂
