ParticipantPut the rogue bison between stop MO322 and Sad Town, and we are in business. If miracle on 322 ends up being disappointment on 322, I will get out and cowpoke the bison off of the tracks myself, before leaping on and piloting the ship, er, train to sad town with great flourish. Or sad flourish. Or whatever.
Dangit I need sleep. Goodnight.

ParticipantI love that theory. Not sure it QUITE works with what we’ve seen with respect to spoilers (particularly the pics,) but it would be 1050% awesome and I would be all about it (albeit a nervous wreck and cursing A&E the whole time for Emma’s angst if it extended out of 321/322!!)

ParticipantThat’s funny. I saw Rumple’s line as inconsequential. He was playing a dangerous game with a dangerous witch. Complete honesty is not something I read into those scenes, but rather, someone who speaks carefully chosen words to get a measured reaction – or perhaps to measure a reaction – as is typical of Rumple. He does not concede easily, and when he does, there is generally more going on than meets the eye. It’s a habit built over watching the show – so little is exactly as it seems with Rumple, you know?
With regards to the Boom, if it were a shout-out, by giving an MRJ line to Emma, it becomes essentially a shout-out to the whole six SF fans. Why bother, you know?

ParticipantSee, I took Rumple’s comment slightly differently – that he would never let go meaning not let go of his hand, and fall through the portal WITH him. That would put both Rumple & Bae in LWM, London circa 18-whenever. The problem certainly becomes then having them survive to present-day EF.
Buuuut, if this is forward continuity and Rumple still has his memories, then perhaps he’d conjure a way (go to NL?) out of love for Bae & wanting him to find his HEA? I’m just thinking aloud here, no real development of theory. (ETA: or, duh, even selfishly, to meet Belle.)
If there was no DO, then it would certainly alter history. Let’s see, James would not have become price, but rather stayed with David. Cora would still have the Z situation, but not be able to marry Henry (ergo no Regina?) Snow would still exist, and Eva would not die, I think. How Snow & Charming would meet to produce Emma, I have no clue, but perhaps Snow would be disowned for marrying a peasant and that’s why Emma is dressed as such?
Hook perhaps still went to NL; he had the bean. He should also have two hands. Shouldn’t Milah still be alive then?
But, without Rumple, wouldn’t Marian still be dead? And perhaps Roland, too? He would not have had the wand to save her…
Anyways. With regards to the Boom, not accidental. And despite the fact that I don’t trust A&E as writers at the moment, I also don’t believe them to be needlessly, intentionally cruel. There are only two ways to take that item, a tiny specific shout out which only devoted fans would know: twisting the knife, or trying to give hope/a clue. I’ve been reasonably firm about the return of Baelfire, but waffling about whether he will be back in the form of MRJ… no longer. The tent of optimism has been shored up a moment longer, living to be crushed another day :p

ParticipantAnother thought. The “exit” interview clearly indicated Neal is dead – from whence we speculated that perhaps “Neal” was gone but Bae would return. Incidentally, Eddy’s comments at Wondercon were, again, about Neal living on in memories & flashbacks. That could work really nicely if they plan to forge forward with the identity of Baelfire, so that we only see “Neal” during flashbacks to that block of his life. I mention all of this because perhaps that was the purpose if not mentioning a name throughout the scenes, there is a bigger thing at hand with the shedding of the Neal persona and recapturing the Bae character. In fact, that could lead really nicely in with the Hook scene where they remind us that “Neal” and “Bae” are one and the same. Hm. I could see writers doing this as a way to address the criticism that some viewers have difficulty seeing Nesl & Bae as one and the same… particularly given that Baelfire is so critical to the fabric of the show.

ParticipantRoomies were insistent it was Emma – that led to the first rewatch. I didn’t think so but they were so certain I went with it. I wonder if it’s a future-vision of the Snowflake? That would explain the resemblance, as well as the weird “We’ll find out who the baby is” comment.

ParticipantRumple whispered “Bae” immediately after he left him in the woods & got sent back to his cage.
I missed the “boom.” Guess I’ll have to go back and rewatch – dishwasher was running and roomies were talking during parts of the episode. But I got enough to know… they ACTUALLY had a character say he’s not dead and to introduce the idea of getting him back, on the show. I knew it was coming, roomies didn’t. Other roomie did not react – the show as a whole was über-weird with the ghost and sealing door shut (why show that and not do anything with it?) and possession and whatnot, so she was focused on that. But bestie-roomie was pretty much like, “Well, that’s a whole lot more than I thought we were gonna get. I figured he’d just be ignored until he popped back up at the end.” She regarded it as a present, and marked it in the win column. Thought that was very interesting.
They did not gave Z insinuate “there might be a way to bring him back,” they had her indicate he is still alive. Which is particularly interesting, given a) writers insistence that he is dead and b) the fact that they indicate “dead is dead,” so to introduce the concept that he is not dead is pretty humongous.
It’s tough, sometimes, to watch the show from within the fanbase and from outside of it. But if they are discussing Neal – that is a reminder to GA that he existed – and if they are putting an MRJ thing in the scene, that is a fanbase thing. The fact that they chose to put both in the scenes (and that it was multiple scenes, not just a quick mention,) is mounting evidence that It’s Not Over.
The CS scene? Played totally different on my screen than it did in recaps. Emma was being mischievous, and Hook was not amused. He was kind of a bratty non-entity this episode. (Also, the OQ kiss – was that really R, or was it Z-as-R?)
As a household, we were way more enthralled by the preview than the show – we had to watch it back three times, we were so confused. Was that Emma-as-Glinda? So confuzzled chatter about that probably drowned out most of the show discussion.

ParticipantRoomies should both be home by 9:30 to watch. Sure hope they’re not delayed, b/c we can’t start much later than that and I would like to mock tonight!
I haven’t spoiled them on anything, so I remain very interested to get their “GA” reaction to the Neal mention. For that matter, I’m interested to get *my* reaction to it.
A shot might not be the worst idea ever. Roomie who pretty much never drinks definitely busted out wine last week, lol…
