I have a bit of ridiculous love for that ride. Not sure why, stems back to when I was a kid…
And Slurpeez, so true!
If I might offer a pragmatic word –
Even if, worst case scenario, we are headed full on into the spoiler of doom… there is nothing we can do to change it. Newfound friends, we KNOW we get some goodies tonight. Don’t let fear of an unknown future – and the poor form of the rest of the fanbase – steal that excitement from you! Enjoy what is coming, as it is, and don’t let tomorrow’s uncertainty rob today’s excitement & happiness. We should be getting ourselves some FEELS tonight, so cookies, cocoa & smiles all around! 🙂
If eternal optimism isn’t your thing, feel free to roll your eyes 😉 but we are watching a story about HOPE… I can’t not have some!!

dontstopbelievinParticipantPreach it, Astra!
So – this was my night.
Wasn’t sure what to expect but it’s actually quite good! I suspect we will need to invest in Costco-sized tubs of cocoa powder over here. We already have enough cinnamon to feed an army. My bestie had some too, Serendipity mug in honor of Manhattan! We watched 2×12 through 2×15 with our other roomie and then had an OUAT meeting of the minds to answer lots of questions, “So, wait, Gold didn’t know that Henry was Bae’s, right?” She did not figure out that Bae = Neal ahead of time so her expression was pretty priceless… “Neal?” “Emma!” We looked at her and just got, “Oh!”
I thought my mug was unthemed until bestie reminded me that in fact, it did tie in – Small World debuted at the World’s Fair which was in NYC (Queens.) Good times…
Roomie declared that tomorrow we are finishing Season 2. She has LOTS of questions about Neverland – apparently saw a clip and thinks Peter Pan is young Bae. Um, no, but we’ll get there soon enough. So we will have some good SF feels heading into tomorrow’s episode… all good things, I suppose! 🙂

dontstopbelievinParticipantRG who is that referring to? (ETA: Nevermind, went & found it)
Love his points about spoiler pics that don’t make the show. If I were A&E I’d shoot a different death every ep and make sure each actor was on set every week… lol

dontstopbelievinParticipantYes, THAT!! I am confident our ship is endgame because of the story and what we have seen on the show. It has no bearing on who else may or may not be in their story. If I felt like certain characters needed to be removed from the story in order for SF to sail I probably wouldn’t be here…
I can’t believe fans are gloating because they think Henry will be left fatherless. What on earth?! Why wish that on the poor kid, a, and b, have you not paid ANY attention to the overarching theme of the show?!
I am just astonished by all of this, honestly. I think we know enough tidbits to know the SoD is not going to happen tomorrow or the following week, and people who are gloating about both the who & the when have not been paying enough attention. I guess it’s a case of wanting something to happen badly enough that you only acknowledge the facts that prove your case. (To be fair, the same could probably be levied against me, but I’d like to think there are no cut-and-dried facts that disprove my position. IIRC there are two things that tell us the “thing” everyone is crowing about is not 3×15/3×16, unless I made them up in my head? I know about the “thing” that happens in 3×16 but pretty sure that is a giant fake-out and not related to the SoD.)

dontstopbelievinParticipantYes! I have no dread about tomorrow’s episode. I’m actually pretty excited!
Neal is back AND we know we get SF scenes. We have not seen them together since December!!
ETA: Ranisha – sorry about your family stressors. 🙁 I have BTDT and it is no fun. Hopefully tomorrow night’s ep can be a happy distraction instead of adding additional stress to your pile.

dontstopbelievinParticipantUh. The above post is only relevant if we are panicking about the spoiler that shall not be mentioned. If we are just freaking out about the cruelty of the fan base, I got nothing. Pretty sure an entirely different Once airs in my house than everyone else’s. Hide here in the thread, grab some cocoa and crawl under the table with me… shelter as “the sky is falling.” 🙂

A&E have a story to tell. A story they set out from the beginning… one that has pieces dropped in the Pilot, 1.5 seasons before it really began play out on screen. They have a plan, they have foresight, there is a predetermined arc here. They have put an immense amount of planning into telling this story, they’re not just going to cut it off at the knees.
Remember how they were displeased people figured out Neal = Baelfire (arguably one of the story’s biggest surprises?) Don’t you think they have learned from that – perhaps it behooves them to issue some misdirection towards their overly active fanbase?
They put the spoiler of doom out there… a move that, if I understand correctly, is rather out of character. They knew it would work the fans into a tizzy. Furthermore, they know who the fans believe it to be!! It is most advantageous for them to capitalize on that… for the die-hards to go, “Aha, we know exactly what’s going to happen,” only to serve them up something that is nothing like what they expected. Which creates more buzz – “Yep, that went down just as I though,” or fans going to work on Monday and going, “OMG, did you see Once last night?! I totally didn’t see that coming!”
What we see from outside the show is fully intended to create buzz for the show itself, to get fans to tune in. A&E know they are working with a very devoted, introspective fan base who thinks they can suss everything out. Something tells me everything that is being done at present is being done to prove the fanbase wrong… JMO. I won’t panic until I see it on my screen.
(Yeah. The rose-colored googles are attached with superglue.)

dontstopbelievinParticipantI would totally be on board with a rewatch from the beginning over the summer. I mean it’s only been a couple of weeks since we started our rewatch here 😉 but I am always game!
There is so much stuff from the get-go. There are a couple of things even in the Pilot; I was skeptical about whether it was me seeing things through shipper goggles, but I read somewhere that JM was told from the beginning who Henry’s father was so I am not sure how much of the story she had to go on. The scene where she meets Henry includes: him asking her for a drink, her discussing her superpower, her threatening to call the cops on him and him instead convincing her to go home with him… Oh, and dare I mention that the candle on her cupcake is a star shape, so she is literally (in true Disney fashion) wishing upon a star?! I think there are actually more parallels buried in that episode (would catching a cab with a stolen credit card be the 10-year-old version of stealing a car?) but I might be digging a little too deep.
I watched Lost, so I knew these writers dropped hidden clues and easter eggs along the way. But until we sat down to rewatch the story, knowing what we should be looking for, I didn’t realize HOW MUCH stuff they’d buried in there. My bestie and I laugh and laugh about all of the stuff Henry does in S1 that makes him soooo their kid.
Plus there is my favorite line of maybe the whole thing – from Gold in the second episode – I think I need to make it my sig. He’s talking to Regina about seeing Emma with Henry, and says, “…I just seen her strolling down the main street with your boy. Thick as thieves, they looked.” RC draws out the “thick as theives,” emphisizes it just perfectly, and once you know the Emma/Neal story it is utterly BRILLIANT.
Cause this story needs some mending & a better happy ending...
dontstopbelievinParticipantI think he thinks Emma is a new Milah, right? I was really turned off in ep. 312 (?) when he answered Emma’s question on why he came back with “For you Emma.” He didn’t say “for you and Henry”. Let’s not forget he’s into the hott moms but not into their kids. Kids cramp the adventurous lifestyle. And God forbid the mom should up and die and leave him feeling “responsible”…
Agree totally. I think subconsciously that’s part of my choosing of SF vs CS – while both realize that Emma and Henry come as a package deal, only one of them is SEEKING them as a package deal. Not to say that’s the only reason, and certainly, plenty of successful relationships have been launched when someone wants the parent but accepts the child. It just doesn’t have the same heartstring pull (for me) as a guy who is like, “That’s my family, and I want them back.” It trumps, “I have the hots for that girl, she seems like fun and I think maybe I could get over my 300-year-old broken heart. Her kid’s okay, too.”
This is not something that happens in a half-season arc. However, as I believe others have pointed out, Hook’s redemption must also involve Neal. He cannot be a father figure to Henry before admitting/regretting that he failed Bae. This would line up with the theme chez Snowing/Rumple/Neal/Emma all struggling with their own feelings of failure as a parent.
I agree that it’s not something that happens in a half-season arc, but I think that should they resolve it in 3B, it’s been a while coming. I am hopeful that he realizes Emma was a stepping stone to opening his heart again, and even if that realization comes from 3B, it’s built on the foundations of the last two seasons.
Additionally I wholeheartly concur that delving into the father figure to Henry/failing Bae would be straight up thematic with this show. I forget which post (I think it’s yours above) was discussing the fact that as fans, we focus on the romantic relationships – SF, CS, OQ, Rumbelle, Snowing etc. But as much as that’s used as a driving factor on the show, what this show REALLY boils down to is parental love. It’s what the TLK in 1×22 was about – not romantic TLK but parental TLK. There are fewer romantic pairings on this show than parent-child stories – not only the core stories of Rumple & Bae, Charmings & Emma, Regina & Henry, Emma & Henry, Neal & Henry, but even Regina & Cora, we see it with Philora wanting to protect their kid at the expense of the SB gang, Henry & Regina, Mo willing to take back Belle’s memories to keep her safe, Ruth willing to give her life for the Charmings to have Emma, etc. Hook doesn’t get that, he’s kind of on the outside of that huge theme of the show. He had a theoretical kid, whom he theoretically wanted to have a life with, but when push came to shove his piratey tendancies took over. I think if he wants a real future with Emma, he’s gotta get that, REALLY get it, or it would be totally unbelievable (completely outside of SF vs. CS.)
Are you using the Text editor or the visual editor? I had trouble w/my first post last night, but it seems to have fixed it by clicking the text tab and entering my tagging there.
I’d been using visual, but this post I tried text. We’ll see how it turns out – seems I can use HTML here and that makes me happier. BBCode and I never did get along terribly well, but HTML is an old friend 🙂

dontstopbelievinParticipantkfchimera –
Great post. I will admit that I have never given that much thought to Hook’s character; two weeks ago I was just watching OUAT as my favorite show and not overanalyzing too much but as I go back and inspect, I think you have some excellent points. If he is attracted to Emma since he sees her as the adventuring type – mistaking her willingness to fight when necessary (particularly fighting for her child, which is pretty much all he’s seen her do) as WANTING to fight – then it makes sense. It unfortunately means that he’s missed some introspection as to who Emma really is – calm, quiet city life in a stable Home with her kiddo. She doesn’t get off by climbing bean stalks or traipsing around Neverland, those are necessary evils on the road to the home she so craves. He seems willing to parent Henry – much like he was willing to parent Baelfire – but he is not craving to parent Henry, the way not only Emma but both Neal and Regina are. He happens to come with the package, that’s cool – and I do give him props for that – but he’s off to rescue “Emma,” not “Emma&Henry.”
I like what Hook brings to the show. I love his one-liners, they are part of what makes it so enjoyable to watch. But unfortunately I think it’s rather undeniable that he has not properly integrated into the gang; for all of the connections that he SHOULD have, they all feel superficial. He was part of the Neverland gang, but there was always that distance, and it remains now. He’s attached to Emma. He doesn’t really have solid relationships with the other characters, despite the fact that he should.
Hmmm, I just went to look up some Tallahassee screencaps and unfortunately we don’t really get a good look at the outside of it. It does look to be about the same size as the box Emma has though, so I reckon there’s a chance you could be onto something.
Nope, I pulled out Tallahassee when I did the caps above and the best look we get at it is of an edge. Like I said, the one edge we can see (very very briefly and slightly blurry) appears to be plain wood without the linear design – but it’s possible that a) its a different edge of the box (ie, Neal has the hinge towards him and we see the open edge, while Emma is holding the open edge and the design is only on the side of the box with the hinge) or there was a prop error and they’ve edited it such that it’s impossible to see the box. I think a prop error is on the outside edge of probability given the attention to detail during the show but since we just can’t see the box well enough to tell I think it’s a possibility.
