I think that Cora really did care about Rumple and meant it when she said that she loved Rumple). Prince Henry was clearly enamored with her and had power and admiration. Rumplestiltskin was a pariah, hated and feared by everyone. Her heart was clearly with Rumple, but she also desired (and ultimately chose) to have the admiration and respect that being with Henry would give her. However, while I think that Cora really did care for Rumple, true love sacrifices for their beloved and she couldn’t or wouldn’t do that.
I actually enjoy Cora as a character and find her intriguing. I mean how much worse is she than Rumplestiltskin and Regina? They’ve both done things that are just as bad or worse than her for similar reasons. The main difference is that they are both trying to reform and she isn’t.
Hmmmmm, excellent point! Unless Cora is more powerful than Rumple (which I doubt), then Cora was just lying about dark magic being able to raise the dead or that is a major plot hole! You can’t jump from “dead is daed” suddenly to “a life for a life” can you? Otherwise, wouldn’t Regina have found out about this spooky candle to use on Daniel? Something tells me that even if it meant sacrificing someone else’s life, Regina would’ve done it to get back the Stable Boy
What Cora was trying to get Snow to do was stop a death before it happened, not bring someone back from the dead. Daniel was already dead, not dying when Regina was trying to bring him back, and Cora killed him so quickly that she wouldn’t have had time to use the candle anyway.
