Charming thought Regina was just bluffing, and whilst we know she wasn’t, I don’t think Snowing were aware of the curse. All they knew was that Regina couldn’t harm them thanks to Rumple’s spell. Also Charming wasn’t exactly wrong. When Charming was turned to stone and Regina appeared to Snow in the shield, she was positively gleeful that she didn’t have to lift a finger since Snow had just destroyed her own happiness at that point. Regina may not have cast the curse if Charming had remained stone. Also I don’t blame Charming for wanting to enjoy his honeymoon, it was probably the first time in a long while he and Snow weren’t battling someone or being hunted. Charming didn’t want to let Regina’s threat destroy the good moments.
The thing that bothered me is that they are the king and queen–they have a duty to their people, and Charming wasn’t really taking the threat to his people as seriously as he should. Regina has proven time and time again to be a fearless opponent who easily is capable of killing to get what she wants.
I don’t fault him for wanting to enjoy his time with his wife–he has that right–but to ignore the upcoming threat until it becomes a problem was not really smart at all.
Regina might not have casted the curse if Charming remained stone–that is a possibility, but the fact is, he didn’t remain stone and she once again went along with her plans to enact the curse.
I don’t think Neal did push for the date. He was going to Granny’s for lunch any way and gave Emma the choice to join him with the assurance that if she didn’t show up, he’d “quit bugging” her. I had many issues with Hook this episode and the stuff he did, and if we’re bringing up Neal’s past actions towards Emma, let’s not forget that Hook left Emma in Rumple’s cell to rot with no chance of escape whilst he and Cora planned to jump realms.
Emma just seemed uncomfortable with Neal asking her out. She’s made it clear to both Hook and Neal that she would always chose Henry first and that she wasn’t too interested in dating at the moment.
I’m not saying to forget what Hook did to Emma–what he did was wrong. But I think the hurt that came with being left by Neal was stronger than with what Hook did–I’m not necessary negating it, but with Neal, his abandonment was stronger (for her) than Hook’s.
In this case with Neal, what he did made her walls go way up and haunted her for 11 years. Adding to fact that he seemed quickly over Tamara and jumps at the chance with Emma…I’m not saying that makes him horrible…it just bugs me a bit.
Henry’s character is really a plot device. A more well written plot device than others, but still a plot device.
I agree. I do like Henry, but he is mostly the cause for conflict in the show. He’s not an actual character–at least not to the degree that the other characters on the show are.
And sorry about the Medusa head cut-off–I hadn’t watched the episode in a while, so I forgot. 🙂
[adrotate group="5"]December 28, 2013 at 2:43 pm in reply to: 3X10 .. THE NEW NEVERLAND — FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS #234086elleParticipantThis was a much stronger episode than the previous one in my opinion.
I loved the Rumbelle moment–they aren’t my all-time favorite couple on the show, but it was nice and sweet and romantic for the two. I loved how happy Belle was to see Rumple again.
I loved the snowing moments–It felt good to see them interact (in the present situation) without too much drama.
I LOVED Daddy Charming–the show seriously needs to do more of this. and more of Charming himself as well.
The flashback parts confused me a bit–I liked them enough, but there wasn’t a strong tie to the present situation. Granted, it was nice to have a Snowing episode where they both just went on a adventure (it reminded me a lot of Snow Falls in that sense) and just got to work together, but not much in the past tied into the present, except Charming’s touching speech about good moments. It was nice, but the lack of mentioning Medusa’s head bugged me. Where is it? What did Snow White and Prince Charming do with it? Did they ever use it?
What a lot bugged me is what Charming said about not worrying about Regina–she had just sworn to destroy their happiness! And he doesn’t think that is serious. Snow had the right idea about trying to do something about it, but then she changes her mind about that. That whole part kinda bugged me as well.
I felt bad for Neal that Emma stood him up, but in all honestly (remembering how he let her go to jail) I don’t feel too bad about that after a while. And the way he kinda…pushed for the date wasn’t enjoyable to watch.
Regina leaving the curse by itself was just dumb–sorry, but why would she leave it in her vault? Her vault has been broken into 3 times (once by Emma and Graham, once by Henry, and once by Dr. Whale)–after a while she should have at least kept the curse close by her. Or destroy it.
Jared Gilmore as Peter Pan was enjoyable–I thought he did a good job. Robbie Kay as Henry was good, but he wasn’t given much to work with. The character Henry is not as…developed perhaps?…as some of the other characters, so he was limited it what he do with the character, though what he did was still good.
It was a good episode overall. It seemed to be a bit scattered at times, I thought. But it all came together pretty well.
December 28, 2013 at 2:16 pm in reply to: 3×09 Save Henry — FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS – – – #234085elleParticipantThis is sort of another episode that I don’t personally love, and a lot of has to do with how the adoption agency was portrayed.
The adoption agency seemed to be incredible dumb–they never heard of Storybrooke, and they don’t find that at all to be the least bit suspicious. Regina stated that she was the mayor, and they don’t bother to look that up to make sure.
Two young men, who look barely old enough to adopt (maybe college age at the most) want too adopt a baby, and they are okay with this. I know this is a fictional show and some things have to be conveniently changed for the sake of the plot, but this was just ridiculous.
And then Regina’s redemption arc–it felt like they went one step forward, before taking a drastic step back. Her saying that she has no regrets of what she did felt disturbing.
Stuff I loved–
Lana Parrilla’s acting was great, even with the script. I loved JMO’s scene with the Lost Boy’s, even if some of the kids sided with them a bit too quickly. I liked Bae and Rumple bonding–this relationship was sadly downplayed in season 2, so I’m glad the writers finally started bringing it back up. And the scene with Emma and her dad was great. Other than that, it was an okay episode for me.
December 28, 2013 at 2:01 pm in reply to: 3×08 “Think Lovely Thoughts” — FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS #234078elleParticipantI’m actually not anti rumple. I do like him (sometimes), but I will be critically when I want to be–especially since, for me, his centric episodes have not offered much for me. They feel like repeats of his centric episodes in season 1 and 2 episodes (for me at least). They aren’t bad, but not much more (again in my opinion) is being said.
You’re free to dislike whatever episode you want, as I am.
December 28, 2013 at 1:47 pm in reply to: 3×07 “Dark Hollow” — FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENT #234075elleParticipantI’ve felt this way about Emilie de Ravin is since she made her debut in season 1–I just find that she tries too hard in her expressions.
I’m not saying she is a bad actress, but I don’t think she is one of the strongest in the show. She overacts a lot in he scenes that she is in. It doesn’t quite seems natural when she acts on scene–it is sort of like I’m watching someone act out a character.
December 27, 2013 at 10:31 pm in reply to: 3×08 “Think Lovely Thoughts” — FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS #233975elleParticipantI feel like this episode was just like Nasty Habits–it was a way to sympathize Rumple. And while in felt for him as a child, I don’t feel for him at all as an adult. And I totally agree with Neal being suspicious of his father–he learned a few days ago that Rumple had planned on killing Henry, had wanted to kill Henry for a very long time.
Some of the scenes I didn’t like–
Rumple trying to get another favor from Charming–All I could think was, “Really Rumple?” They whole group just found out that he tried to kill Henry. That he planned on killing him for a long time, and not long after he tries to get something out of them? For someone that wants their trust, he goes about it that wrong way. I cheered when Neal told him off.
And the whole reveal that Peter Pan was Rumple’s grandfather made me cringe–It just feels so silly, and I wish the writers had not gone down that road for the show.
December 27, 2013 at 10:25 pm in reply to: 3×08 “Think Lovely Thoughts” — FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS #233973elleParticipantNeal telling Rumple that he will help Charming because of being family and that’s what family do- That was where I disliked Neal the most this episode. Rumple can’t get TWO MINUTES ALONE with Belle without Snowing interrupting, yet Rumple has to help Charming out of the goodness of his heart. How about Snowing leave RumBelle alone, that should have been the trade!
The following are the scenes where Snowing interrupted Rumbelle dates.
1). 2×01–when Rumple unleashes a wrath. The Charming’s go to him to ask him what he had done an what was going on. If you want privacy for a date, don’t release a wraith.
2). 2×10–Regina is accused of murdering Archie. That takes precedent over a date.
3). 2×21–The Charming’s interrupt Rumple and “Lacey” to find Regina and find the beans. That also takes precedent over a date.
December 27, 2013 at 10:16 pm in reply to: 3×07 “Dark Hollow” — FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENT #233970elleParticipantThis is anther episode that I am not a fan of.
I did like Belle and Ariel working together–it worked well. It was cute and fun and smart.
I enjoyed the snowing scenes–Snow White had every right to be angry at Charming, but I’m also glad it wasn’t dragged out too long. It was resolved well enough, yet it was emotional, and both Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas played off each other well.
It was great to see Emma use magic and trap the shadow–I feel like this season is finally letting her shine in the series. I hope we get more of her the rest of the season.
Some of my problems with this episode is the following–
1). Emilie de Ravin is not (in my opinion) the strongest actress on the show. I find that she overacts in many of her scenes and it just seems overly forced. Her being the focus of the show has its problems due to her acting.
2). Belle not eating is kinda depressing.
3). Both Hook and Neal acting like brats–it felt out of character for both of them. It was annoying to watch, though I am glad that it only stayed for on episode. Better one than more.
December 27, 2013 at 8:11 pm in reply to: 3×06 “Ariel” — FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS #233961elleParticipantI don’t think it is her feeling that way simply because she doesn’t have certain relationship with Emma–Snow said that she missed out on everything in Emma’s life. All of Emma’s firsts, and she wanted that. She herself stated to Charming that the both of them were robbed of that opportunity and that she wanted another chance at that–another chance to raise a baby.
December 27, 2013 at 7:06 pm in reply to: 3×06 “Ariel” — FAVORITE AND LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS #233956elleParticipantNot my personal favorite, but I really enjoyed it.
I love the actress that played Ariel–Joanna Garcia. I found her to be very enjoyable–she got the wide-eyed, curious, sweet, determination of the character just right without going to overboard, and I enjoyed her relationship with Snow White, who I did feel for in this episode–I could understand why she wanted another baby. She was deprived of all those years with Emma–as she put it, she and Charming missed out on those years, and I don’t think it wrong that she wanted them.
I mean, Rumple wanted to turn Bae back to a 14 year old to erase the past, yet Snow gets hated for wanting another baby–this little fact bugs me like heck.
My favorite moments were Hook’s confession, the illusion Belle finally being gone, Peter Pan being evil, manipulative self, Emma’s confession to Neal, all the little nods to the Little Mermaid, and Ariel stabbing Regina in the neck–that last part was just awesome!
The only thing I disliked was Regina pretending to be Ursula–I honestly felt like the whole performance was forced and too cartoony. I guess that was the point–to give a nod to the Ursula in the Disney movie, but it felt out of place overall. I am glad that there is a real Ursula, though, and that Regina is not her.
