Participant@Lil’Red
I am glad I am not the only one that supports them together. 🙂 A lot of people after this episode have been supporting Captain Hook and Emma together, which I didn’t see happening. The whole time he flirted with her, she seemed pretty dismissive of him and not at all interested. Not to mention that she never once trusted him.
Neal and Emma were truly in love–Emma has never said, “I love you,” to anyone other than him. The way she looked at Neal was with love, adoration, hope, and expectants. She wanted and future with him, and he wants one with her. 🙂

ParticipantI have to say that I loved the two of them together. 🙂 They were sweet and touching–I had been ready to go along with the theory that he had adandoned her because he was simply a horrible person. It was his way of protecting her, of course, but I am glad there is more to it than that.
Also, I don’t think I can picture Emma being with anybody but him–seriously, he was the one (the only one who was not family) that put her first because he loved her, and not because she was The Savior or because she had magic.
That said, I do think he might be Baelfire–August might have shown Neal a picture of Rumpelstiltskin’s dagger. He had one with him before.

ParticipantHe does fit the definition of a Byronic Hero, but (I guess it is me) I just can’t bear to see hom as one. I’ve read my fair share of stories with a byronic hero–my favorite being Mr. Rochestor–but with those, they seemed to have a few redeeming qualities that I could forgive. In the end of Jane Eyre, Mr. Rochestor admits that he did wrong by Jane and that he would have sullied her if he had continued on with his actions.
Not once have I seen Rumpelstiltskin truly admit that–he admits he is a coward, he admits that he has a hard time choosing love over power, but he makes no effort to change. He just keeps using them same excuse and makes no effort to change his ways.
Rumpelstiltskin does have the traits of a Byronic Hero, but it does not fit him well. We are supposed to still pity and feel for them, and yet it is hard when we see the corruption he caused Regina, the separation he forced onto the Charming Family, how he chose power over love twice (even if he felt guilt), and for all the other acts he has done.

ParticipantWhat makes Heathcliff a byronic hero is the fact that Cathy did not return his feelings the way he had wanted–she married Edgar for social staus and money, and in Heathcliff’s mind, rejected him. Which caused him to become the vengeful man that he is. Also, Heathcliff is not a murderer, though he has done much. Also, despite how horrible Heathcliff is, he never would have let Cathy go, never would have chosen power over her, not like Rumpelstiltskin did.
Rumpelstiltskin at first started with good intention until he began killing from left and right, and for no true reason. He killed a man for accidently injuring his son, he killed a maid because he was paranoid, killed his wife in a bitter, jealous rage, twice chose power over the people he loved, and has terrorized people simply because it amused him.

ParticipantI have alway thought that this whole cast is able to really make us feel so much for the characters. Even when they do something horrible or stupid, we cannot help but be fascinated and want the best for them.
I doubt he will ever be a hero. I think for him, Belle and Baelfire will be the ones to bring out the light in. Just like Henry does the same for Regina, and how he is able to keep Emma grounded and keep her in Storybrooke.

ParticipantI have to disagree with the article. He is not a hero, an anti-hero, or a byronic hero. He has done so much wrong and harm, and the few redeeming qualities he has are not enough. He may be arrogant, disrespectful, intelligent, suffering from a past mistake, and often moody, but he is also a murderer, manipulative, cruel, vengeful, bitter, destructive, and often does not learn from his mistakes.

ParticipantThis is awesome! 😀
I would not want King George, obviously. Nor Cora. I get that evil is born in this series, but these two would cause trouble like there is no tomorrow. Captain Hook is just not good–he is not evil, but he seems to have no true loyalty to anyone. The Blue Fairy isn’t evil, I think, but I am no a fan, either. I just don’t like the way she talked to Nova and Dreamy/Grumpy. 👿
People that I would consider, but be careful around–
Also, as much as Regina is trying, I would be careful around her. I wouldn’t shun her, but she is not stable, either. I don’t know much about Dr. Whale/Victor Frankenstein, other than he loves his brother enough to want to bring him back to life. Rumpelstiltskin is also someone that I would be wary of. I wouldn’t shun him, but it would take a lot to gain my trust. The Genie as well belongs here. Possibly Henr’s father–I’dhave to see the episode, first. The people I would love to take to and see more of would be the whole Charming family, Pinocchio and his family, Red Riding Hood and Granny, the dwarves, Baelfire, Jefferson and Grace, The Woodsman and Hansel and Gretal, Abigail and Frederick, Belle, and Nova.

ParticipantAfter all that Captain Hook has done, I doubt she will find him that appealing–he may not have killed any of the survivors, but he certainly didn’t try to stop it, nor showed even remorse for what happened to them. I think there will be bantering back and forth, and Captain Hook will probably flirt with her–she is attractive, he is apirate, and flirting can be used as a form of distraction–but I doubt much will happen. 🙂

ParticipantFair point–all the couples on the show have had more screen time together. Snow WhitexPrince Charming, BellexRumpelstiltskin, ReginaxDaniel, and GrumpyxNova. But considering how this man also worked for Cora (and allowed her to kill the group of survivors) and how Emma’s main concern is her parents and Henry, the last thing on her mind would be to fall for Captain Hook. I agree that in the promo he did seem to flirt with her. 😆
His intent seems to be revenge–he probably is just going to gain her trust so that he can make off with the compass.

ParticipantTrue she only had two scenes with Captain Hook, but with other characters, there was always a form of chemistry that quickly occured. With this, she seemed just wary and ready to kill him if he tried anything dangerous. And he seems pretty intent on revenge–it is probably all he has thought about for centuries. The most I can say about his feelings towards her was that perhaps he was impressed with how she was able to quickly intimidate him and recongnize him for lying. 🙂
