True Love is supposed to overcome any obstacle, almost any curse out there in this series, so I think Belle confessing her feelings makes more sense. It seemed almost a relief that she got to say them outloud–maybe she was going to go back to Rumpelstiltskin after she thought he had cooled down, or maybe she hoped that he would come to regret his actions and make amends with her. But from her conversation in Dreamy, she seemed fond and still very much in love with Rumpelstiltskin.
There is also the fact that Regina captured her alive–obviously to use her as bait, and Belle is smart enough to know that Regina was planning on using her as a pawn. That, and perhaps Regina gloated about it–she is the type who just loves to show off in front of her victims.
Also, a lot of people addressed the fact that Regina did not use Belle when the time came for when she needed to force Mr. Gold. The writers answer that here. 🙂
[adrotate group="5"]elleParticipantI know. 🙂 I mentioned that. But her arms were both hard to see a the end of Skin Deep. We’ve never just seen her fully when we see her counterpart. Either she’s in a dark room (and her arms were also wrapped around her, but we never seen them palm up), or she’s covered up in thick clothes. It could be nothing–all just a coincidence.
elleParticipantBelle does deserve vengeance, as does everyone in the town, but it does depend on her treatment as well. We know that she was in the hospital for twenty eight years, but we don’t really know her treatment beforehand. She hadn’t been captured by the Queen right after she left (we are not even told if she was captured by the Queen in Fairytale world, though it is likely) and we don’t know what Regina did to her. Of course being locked away for years is torture enough.
Also, something that I noticed, Belle’s Counterpart has either been heavily dressed (last episode with a long-sleeved shirt under her hospital gown and a thick coat) or she has never been seen fully (end of Skin Deep, she was curled up and the room was dark). It does pose the question if maybe she was hurt in some physical way that would leave scars. I know a lot of popular theories are that either her father or the Queen hurt her, and remembering the anger in her tone when she said Regin’a name is enough to wonder.
elleParticipantI don’t think a dark Belle would be done well. One of the reasons Rumpelstiltskin fell in love with Belle was her kindness, how she saw the good in him, and how she cared for him and the many people in her life. If all that became hardened, or if she became darker, she would be different from the woman he loves.
elleParticipantPrince Charming and Snow White teaming up with Rumpelstiltskin (on friendly terms) is a little hard to believe. They might all team up for a common goal–getting rid of Regina, trying to maintain order in Storybrooke now that magic is in the picture. But it is doubtful that Prince Charming and Snow White would ever trust Rumpelstiltskin–he created the curse in the first place, he tried to take Princess Cinderella’s baby from her, kidnapped Kathyrn, killed a fairy Godmother, and etc.
They would probably trust Belle, and maybe she would convince them to side with Rumpelstiltskin–I wonder if Belle has ever met Snow White, Cincerella, or any of the other characters of royal blood.
elleParticipantGranny is a prime example of a strong grandmother. The only mistake she has done was not telling Red that she was the wolf. And Snow White is a strong mother.
elleParticipantThat was my point. People are so desperate for a solution to their problems, that they are willing to even go to the Dark One for help. Regina betrayed Jefferson once, and yet he was desperate enough to go with her again–until she repeated her old mistake. And as for Jefferson freeing Belle, he didn’t seem to really want to get close to Rumpelstiltskin. He just told Belle to find him (and he probably gave her directions to his place) and that’s it. Plus, he only allied himself with Rumpelstiltskin after having done the former a service–he wouldn’t dare go to him for a favor, knowing he would have to pay a price. He wants Rumpelstiltskin to be the one that owes him.
As much as Regina may have made many people miserable, we don’t really know how she treated her remaining allies. She may have been very generous to them–King George was made a DA, and Doctor Whale (who may or may not be on her side) was made a doctor.

But who in their right mind would make a deal with Rumpelstiltskin? He can be just as manipulative as Regina–even more so. Yet there are desperate people who are willing to deal for happiness. We’ve seen Snow White, Prince Charming, Cinderella, and Jiminy all going to Rumpelstiltskin for a solution to their problems, when he was already well-known for being a dark, corrupted, evil person.
It is already over between her and Rumpelstiltskin–he won’t forgive her for what she did to Belle, and I doubt she will forgive him for what happened to Henry. With Maleficent, it could be that there was a falling out between the two of them. Maleficent was not present the first time Regina tried to enact the curse. Something might have happened between the two of them, and Regina (in her own, revenge-style) wanted to punish her old friend. The Blind Witch from Hansel and Gretal was never a friend–she stole Regina’s apple. The only allies that she may have are the people that sided with her when she was planning to enact the curse. There is also the possibility of King George–I wonder if he will want vengeance agaisnt Charming and Snow for taking the kingdom from him.
Doctor Whale seems too much in the neutral right now to predict what side he is loyal to. He seemed close to Regina, yet after everyone gains their memories, he is at a lost. He didn’t go after Regina when she ran away, nor did he look concerned for her well-being, or even pitied her.
elleParticipantRegina may be even more dangerous in season 2. With magic coming back (Regina will probably get her powers, sooner or later) Regina will not only be vengeful over her defeat, but in losing Henry, and seeing everyone happy will push her to extremes, but I think in a even more calculating manner. She was never stupid in the first place, though her temper got the better of her.
In the first season, she trusted Rumpelstiltksin too much–he basically ruined her rein of power and terror. She’s not going to do the same mistake–she might strike up her own deals to gain people, and get some of her old allies.

Since when? #149172elleParticipantIt was pretty clear Regina knew in the episode, given her worried, fearful, angry expression in the second episode, and the added hatred she has for Emma. That explains why she never tried to kill Emma–just get her out of town and away from Henry and everyone. And it was actually pretty clever to film it that way–actions speak louder than words.
