Welcome @lady!
I have the same problem too. I promised myself I wouldn’t look at major spoilers, but here I am looking at major spoilers and looking for more.
You guys have see the vid in this thread, yeah? https://oncepodcast.com/forums/topic/who-is-filming-now-season-4-part-1/page/22/ *fans self*

ParticipantI do believe Blackbeard was eaten wasn’t he? When hook pushed him off the plank wasn’t he eaten by something? Or am I thinking of some other movie? O.o
Yep, Hook pushed him off into their razor-toothed friends below, but we never saw blood or a body.

ParticipantI think it was Blackbeard.
Isn’t Blackbeard dead? Although having said that, I would like a way for him to come back. I quite like him.

ParticipantI really shouldn’t read anti-Hook things, but I do (and I know I’m silly for it) but this particular meta was trying to persude us that his ship was only an object and by the time he sacrficed it he didn’t care much for it, so therefore his ‘sacrifice’ to get to Emma wasn’t all that big. *rolls eyes* But then I saw this and it cheered me up:

ParticipantOk, and I totally admit this is probably me looking through my shipper goggles, but I don’t know that Hook necessarily actually planned to take Henry anywhere — rather, used the opportunity to distract Henry. We know Henry has both of his mothers’ stubborn streaks – and Hook is well aware too. So to me, it seemed more of a divert and then fix the situation kind of thing. I think Hook knows it would’ve been better for Henry in the long run if Hook lied to him to to protect him and have Henry PO’d at Hook…and really, what was he going to do? Let him drive (attempt to drive) off to NY? So I never really got particularly up in arms about his actions there. Of course, I also never picked up on the whole ‘Hook was alluding to kidnapping and (possibly) having his non-consensual way with Milah’ to Rumple in…2×4? I believe? I always thought it was more of a ‘prove to me (and her, she’s just below deck afterall…one last chance to show her) that you love her enough to fight for her’. So yeah, my Hook goggles can get pretty thick!
Aboslutely. Even Henry was calling him out on the ‘kidnapping’. He didn’t believe that Hook and Smee were actually going to take him to NY. He was dripping with sarcasm when he was asking which boat they were going to take. Henry’s a bright lad, we see him get more and more frustrated with being kept in the dark. He even asked Killian why he was helping him. Hook was about to answer and then Monkey Attack! So when Hook yelled at Smee to find another boat, it was just to get Henry away from said monkey attack. Although I’ve always wondered how Emma knew Hook was planning on putting Henry on a boat. Did Smee tell her in passing as they were running into the boatshed?
And I guess I don’t really think of Hook’s persistence if you will as being clingy or overbearing…you have to put it into context. Emma is seriously scarred and terrified that people are going to leave her. Worse, she’s terrified she’s not good enough for love or family or even friends. So while yes, some of Hook’s actions might be clingy to the less-scarred, with Emma, he understands that he really needs to be that way with her. She’s not going to accept that she’s worthy of love very easily, and needs almost constant reassurance from someone who’s trying to get past her walls that they WILL NOT leave her. And she makes that insanely difficult. Hook’s tenacity reminds me of Henry’s in S1, and his support is much like Graham’s was – and they were the first 2 people she really started feeling comfortable with in Storybrooke. Emma approaches life in general like a fight, and you not only have to be willing to fight back to get through to her, the way you’re going to win that fight is to use non-traditional tools that she isn’t going to expect coming.
This is why I never got the stalking vibe that the Hook-haters seem to find in his actions. I too don’t see his behaviour as clingy or persistant. He’s just there as part of their Pan Defeating Team and then later as part of the Wicked Witch Defeating Team. But I don’t see how that’s a bad thing. It’s an extra person on their side (and someone b/c he has feelings for Emma, won’t ever betray them) Even if he’s trying to get into Emma’s good books, they’re building up a true and honest friendship. Look how spare Emma goes when she finds out Hook was keeping the magic-stealing kiss curse from her. If he wasn’t her friend, she wouldn’t have been so p-off at him.
But I’ve been thinking back on at least season 3 to try and work out where Hook *actually* acts stalkerish (for want of a better word) and I can’t find any example. Perhaps the only instance I can remember of him ‘forcing’ (again, for want of a better word) his company onto Emma was when he invited himself along to help capture the shadow from Dark Hollow. He obviously didn’t want Neal and Emma to have too much alone time, but Neal thanked him for his offer, so he wasn’t an unwelcome guest in their party.
Then all throughout 3B there is no forcing his company on Emma. He proved himself enough in Neverland to have built up trust with the Charmings, so he is there heping out. Even by looking after Belle and Ariel, which quite obviously he doesn’t want to do, but he does for the greater good. Also Hook still has his memories. Why wouldn’t the good guys use that asset?
All those times you see Emma walking away from him, that isn’t Emma saying “I don’t want anything to do with you“. It’s Emma saying in her childish way “I’m done with this conversation. I don’t want to discuss this.” I just don’t see him as anything other than a friend and not just to Emma. He and Charming are getting closer too. You can tell by the way they interact at Granny’s in the finale. Charming is quite proud to tell Hook of his adventures, as Hook’s the only one who doesn’t know this story. You don’t see Charming interact with the other boys much. He must like having another bloke around to chat to.

ParticipantHoly Crow batman! Did he write Buffy & Angel?! ….. I Loved, loved, LOVED Firefly, maybe I should give Buffy & Angel a go – well at least Angel (I dont mind saying I find David Boreanaz all sorts of good looking, so quality eye candy is probably a given, even if I dont get into it lol)
Maybe we just need find more CS/Emma/Killian related topics to talk about- how would everyone feel if we did something like recaps & analysis of 1 or 2 eps of the show a week or something to help keep conversation moving forward- or maybe looking for the hints & clues A&E laid down for CS happening? Does anyone have any ideas of what we could do while it’s slow going, that they want to share?
Buffy is aweseome! It took me a while to get into it, but it became non-miss for me. Even having to wait up until midnight when our FTA netwrok deemed it good idea to screen it. And Jane Espenson used to write for Buffy and Angel as well. Although I did go off it a little bit in the end. There was a certain point where it couuld have stopped and I think it should have. But that’s not to say there weren’t some good episodes after that. Angel got a little bit like that in the end for me too. Having said all that still they’re awesome shows. I know Hook is likened to Spike, but I see him as more similar to Angel. (Although that could be b/c I wasn’t a massive fan of Spike)
Yup I’m on board for the recaps. I’ve been wanting to do a full rewatch for a while (I do have a habit of watching only a few choice episodes). But I don’t have any other ideas beyond that. 😉

ParticipantHmmm, I tried editing the above post to include the quoted material in the actual quote box- but it wont work, so hmmmm o.O
I know this is slightly off topic but is anyone else getting just a little bit sick of the ‘Neal is gone & bringing him up makes it harder to bare’ or ‘they are rubbing our faces in Neal’s death’ stuff I see flying around these threads still… hes a friggn fictional character after all, it’s almost creepy tbh & the friggn show isnt the Once upon a Neal …. maybe its because I’m sick so stuck in bed still & cranky, but good gods some people need to get over it, they are taking a fictional TV show WAAAAAAAAAY too seriously- Let it friggn GO! (Pun intended! :P)
I will be honest, my like for Neal is better than it was now (I dont like what he did to Emma, Roland, Leggy or Rumple, nor his S3 decisions/actions at all, but thank the re watches for the improved tolerance)- maybe its absence that makes the heart grow fonderBut if they killed off Killy, I wouldnt be moping around the forums pointing out how such & such should be honoring him or how this & that chaffs now he’s dead- I loved Graham & aside from ‘RIP Graham’ & *sniffles* I didnt see anyone going on & on & on & on & on & on & on about how much they miss him & the show isnt the same etc. Talk seemed to be on how his death affected the others/Emma & it’d be nice to see discussions like that re Neal’s death (if there needs to be any), rather than ‘Why! How could they! They ruined the Show!’ BS that is still going on *sigh*
ok, Rant over- just needed to get that out.
Anybody seen/found a nice CS vid they wanna share?I’m totally with you. It’s getting old and as you said he’s a fictional character. I can’t count the amount of times a favourite character I have adored has been killed off on a TV show. I still remember the worse one when I was a young teenager, wasn’t actually my favourite character being killed off, but he ended up being the villian of the piece. He was so nice and lovely all the way through and then bam, bad guy. I was very upset, but then I built a bridge and got over it. Ohh and then another one where my fav character committed suicide. Oh wow that was tough to handle. But I still loved the show. I’m still upset that JK Rowling killed off Sirius, (POA is still my favourite book) but I didn’t go on a rampage declaring the whole series was ruined b/c of one character’s death.
Actually just one thing that really bugged me about the death, and this is quite a personal note, were the Neal fans saying ‘oh they’re not mentioning him. Just say his name’ etc… I lost my step father (the only father I’ve known) a couple years back and still find it difficult to say his name out loud and talk about him easily, whether it’s b/c I’m worried it will bring up sad thoughts for me or others I don’t know. So all that “say his name” rubbish really hit me hard as being quite insensitive. And if they are acting like Neal was a real person with their mourning and grieving, then perhaps they should actually think about what they’re saying.
