ParticipantI agree, the father/daughter relationship between those two works really well. I think it helps with Charming being such a confident leader he seems older than he is, and Emma can sometimes revert to her 14-year-old self so the age gap seems bigger.
Can’t wait for the CaptainCharming dynamic next season. Protective daddy verses no man good enough for his Princess. *claps gleefully*

Participant@Jenna_B – It really is beautiful. Reaching to the crescendo those few notes are soaring and full of emotion and hope and the potential of amazing things to come. (I may be reading too much into it!!)
But your bird fear is not irrational, it’s totally rational! I don’t like birds either (excluding penguins and kiwis, I like those ones) All feathery and unnecessary. Emus and cassowaries *big time shudder* scary scary things. If one is to engage with the primordial forces of darkness, one must expect a little social awkwardness

ParticipantOkay I hear the birds, but I’m sorry I’m not convinced they are actually part of the music. I think whoever it was just couldn’t edit them out.
Although reading the comments on the YouTube pages, it’s used a lot more than I noticed. I have a tendency to skip over Dark Hollow because of that bloody lighter scene *cringes* But there we go, defintite proof of CS, why go to all the trouble of giving them a theme (and a theme so early on) if they weren’t supposed to be together? 😉

Participant@ellemo Also I never understood why we had birds chirping in the CS theme (although I liked it as it made the theme very organic & natural, which is how I see the whole CS story anyway)….. then it hit me, the dawn chorus- the 1st thing you hear as the sun rises, at the Very Beginning of the day.
I’ve never noticed the birds chirping before. Now I’ll have to rewatch those episodes again. (What a hardship!) They’re not just chirping because those scenes are outside?
I’ve just found what I think is the CS theme in the Jolly Roger too, when Hook is emoting over his broken heart to Ariel/Zelena. So even though Emma isn’t physcially in the scene, she’s definitely the reason for it.If one is to engage with the primordial forces of darkness, one must expect a little social awkwardness

ParticipantOkay, this might be a bit rambly, and not sure if anyone has noticed/mentioned this before, but (imho) the proof of Captain Swan in in the music. I hadn’t realised before until the other day rewatching Tallahassee, but the music of the Neverland kiss is playing under the scene when Emma leaves Hook chained up on the beanstalk. In particular the bit where she says she can’t take a chance she’s wrong about him. I’ve found this music used three times so far (there might be more, but I’ll have to keep and ear out on my further rewatches). First time I noticed it was in Good Form, during the kiss. And to me, that is a love theme if ever I’ve heard one. Second time was in The Tower during the “if it can be broken it means it still works” scene. And because I’d heard that music so prominently during the kiss my immediate thoughts in the Tower scene were ‘they’re going to kiss, they’re going to kiss they’re going to… oh Emma walked away” But now having heard it in Tallahassee, instead of thinking it of it as their ‘kissing’ theme I believe it’s their angst theme. Or at least the ‘not so sure of love’ theme.
The beanstalk, the kiss and ‘broken heart’ scene are pretty intense for Captain Swan. And to bring back that same music at all is signifcant. It gives CS a theme. Why re-use such a small piece of music (which is buried under their talking – that’s why I never noticed it before) if that scene wasn’t going to be imporatant to their relationship? A new bit of music could have been scored for the Neverland kiss, but they chose to reuse the same piece from their last scene where their emotions (of the fuzzy warm feeling variety) are very high. I cannot find a Swanfire theme. I’ll go back and rewatch, but nothing has caught my ear yet. I find that very telling. If there is a SF theme it’s not very noticable, which is the complete opposite of CS. Hence my belief that the writers aren’t lying (and why would they be since it’s their story) when they said that Hook was *always* going to be the love interest for Emma.
This one might be a stretch, but the music playing under the kiss at Granny’s (which is my favourite bit of music from this show ever) is very very very similar to what is named “True Love” on the second season soundtrack. (Which I also think is playing under the dream dance between Emma and Charming but it’s piano and not strings that time) It’s what you might call a variation on a theme. Both a quite slow, with a string solo. It took a couple listens to realise they weren’t exactly the same piece of music, but it’s close. I like the idea of it being a Variation on True Love since we seen Rumbelle being married to it and their love definitely never ran smooth (and currently being built on a lie), same with CS, R&R were about to get hit with a major obstacle. I know Snowing are shown in the same montage, but we’ve just had an hour’s worth of their love story being thrown into choas by Emma and Hook, so that is a definite variation from their original true love story.

ParticipantHook is an interesting character in that his self confidence seems to come in ebbs and flows. Sometimes he’s ridiculously cocky – and the viewer can easily see he’s covering up being self-conscious and maybe a little out of his element. But when it comes to love, unlike many, Hook/Killian is extremely confident – not because he feels whoever is on the receiving end should be grateful, or owes him something for his love. And I don’t think it’s because he knows that person will ‘come around’ – it’s because he’s going to love that person irregardless of whether they return that love. Because he knows he is a better person for loving them, regardless of whether or not that love is returned.
I want to add, that I think Hook is already seeing that Emma has feeings for him, they’ve been quite friendly so far (rum, coconuts, kisses) so as you said it’s not a matter of her ‘coming around’ to his way of thinking, b/c I think she’s already there (or at least an inkling of a feeling) and she will admit it one day when he is worthy of her love. As he said he won’t need tricks, b/c he hasn’t already and she’s starting to fall. Even Regina called her out on it ‘you think it’s the best plan b/c your boyfriend came up with it’ And that was before the kiss, so Emma’s obviously been showing some affection to Hook if others are seeing it.

Participant@ pic CallmeLola posted: *goes weak at the knees* That man in ridiculously good looking! I need to poke him to make sure that he is actually real!!! Someone that pretty, talented and nice must be a figment of my imagination 😉
I didn’t have any expectations of The Rite, didn’t know if it was a horror or psych thriller or what. (I’d never even heard of it until Iwent thru Colin’s back catalogue) I liked it in places and I liked the idea of his character being a skeptic and not taking things at face value, blind faith and all that (as a non-religious person I found that intriging). And up against Sir Anthony, well surely you’re not allowed to upstage him, or if upstaging him is even possible. 😉
Does anyone else see a little Christian Bale in him? I had that thought while watching the Rite and just then when looking at that pic.

ParticipantI hope it is good role for Colin. He got panned in The Rite. I never saw the movie so I don’t know if it was any good. I hope this new movie is good for his career.
Did he? I thought he was pretty good. Accent was a bit dodgy in places (but that seems to be a trend 😉 ) It wasn’t the best film ever, but pretty watchable. Not as scary as I hoped. Now Storage 24 is a shocker of a film (but well worth a watch if you enjoy bad horrors) and his character wasn’t very nice.

ParticipantLol, we all have those moments
Yeah- I was sad when poor Nigel died too (yep I’m also a Bones fan… Mentalist & NCIS {I STILL miss Ziva, the show hasnt been as good IMO, since that character left. That doesnt mean the new character isnt well played, it just means the dynamics on the show have changed & are no longer as enjoyable or interesting to watch as they once were for me personally} fan as well, my fav currently running show at the moment, is Continuum though).
It’s funny because as I think about it, I usually dont watch shows for “couples”- nor is that the primary reason I watch them usually- it’s just the icing on the cake for me usually lol
…It’s nice to just be able to focus on just the story & characters, without having to worry or think about who’s with who or who should be with who, who has jaded who. It makes a refreshing change from current tv trends (not that there is anything wrong with loving a show due to pairings/couples etc. on it.) It’s just nice to feel like there isn’t a ‘side’ to take- if that makes sense
There are quite a few shows I watch where a character has left, and it always takes time to get used to the gap they’ve left or their replacement.
I’ve never seen Continuum but it sounds pretty good. I may have to check it out. 🙂
And yes, it is nice not to worry about romantic chemistry between the leads. That’s one reason I really liked the Law&Order series. Esp CI and SVU to a point, the main two male/female characters were friends/partners but there wasn’t really an inkling of romance between them. It’s nice to show that men and woman can be friends and that they can be there for each other without the need for an underlying sexual tension.

ParticipantI love Castle as well- who was your fav that got killed off?
*headdesk* Having a dumb moment today. Not Castle, I meant Bones! Castle just reminded me as I associate those two shows together b/c they used to be on one after another here. 😀 But it was Mr Nigel-Murray. He didn’t have many episodes, but he obviously made an impression on me.
But I do like Castle too, how can one not love Nathan Fillion? 😀If one is to engage with the primordial forces of darkness, one must expect a little social awkwardness
