ParticipantI would say it’s the season two theory. That’s he’s come into an already established show, been quite popular and has taken screen time or at least pushed aside some of the season 1 regulars, and I know people have issue with interlopers – which is what he can be seen as.
With the above graphic, we’re only 4 episodes into the new season and I think you’ll see Hook’s screen time go down. He’s been needed to establish his relationship with Emma – and you see Emma has had a similar amount of screentime. You can’t have those Rumple and Hook living in the same town without there being some sort of antagonism. Now that’s all sorted into a place that can be background, we’ll definitely see the others’ screentime pick up. It’s hard to write for a ensemble cast to give them all equal screentime, it all comes down to storyline.
The other issue with Hook and the ‘extra’ screentime he has, is that in his back stories – apart from his run in with Rumple – he doesn’t have associations with the other characters, so Hook centric episodes are VERY Hook-centric. He’s prominent in both past and present stories, re “Good Form” and “the Jolly Roger” which I guess just adds fuel to the ‘Hook is getting too much screentime’ fire.

ParticipantI found this theory about the orginal Snow Queen and Emma and Killian and Rumple. I’d cut and paste but it’s just so long! it’s pretty impressive, well thought out (or over thought) but good none-the-less.
Edit: Oops forgot to add it’s a little spoilery in places 🙂

ParticipantKinda random for Blackbeard to be back. Does that mean the current ep could be Hook centric?
If Blackbeard’s really back, I’m guessing either A) he’s in a flashback prior to “The Jolly Roger” or B) He survived his walk off the plank. We assumed he got eaten by sharks based on what we saw, but we never actually saw the body.
It has to be the first. The second would be stretching beyond all suspension. He was bound and bleeding. There WERE sharks. You don not survive a shark feeding frenzy when you are bound and bleeding.
There is a legend about Blackbeard, that when he was finally killed, beheaded and thrown overboard, his headless body swam three times around his ship. Maybe BB is immune to ‘razor-toothed friends’… or it’s a flashback. 😉

ParticipantOh silly silly Hook. Why oh why oh why?????? You should know better than that! 😀
He’s going to tell Emma, right? Right? He’s not going to keep this one a secret right? Right????

ParticipantSeriously though, I still wander out in the rest of the forum, partly because I think it’s fascinating that people can watch the same show and come to wildly different conclusions, so I usually enjoy hearing others’ reasoning and debating our respective positions (as long as it’s done politely and without personal attacks).
I have noticed you trying to reason with people who don’t want to be reasoned with. You’re a braver person than I! 😀
There’s a John Finnemore sketch about an English teacher trying to explain Shakespeare’s Macbeth to his students. And the students are coming up with all these wild theories that are just totally inaccurate, but being a English teacher he can’t dismiss them out of hand, so just sits back and says ‘that’s interesting’ when inside he’s desperately trying not to say ‘you’re wrong, you’re all totally wrong and I will tell you why you’re wrong!!’. It just reminds me of these types of forums. 😉

ParticipantAs I said elsewhere, with the whole cursed hand thing. I really don’t mind if it ends up being more psychological, than an actual curse. Once a seed is planted in your head, it’s hard to get rid of it (doesn’t mean you can’t over come it). Don’t think about white bears. Now you’re all thinking about white bears. Even though the hand may not be bad on its own, Hook has tried really hard to over come his darkness, to be worthy of Emma’s love. The hand could be a phyical reminder of who he was/is and who he’s trying to be. And Rumple’s always messing with people’s heads.
Edit: I totally missed what RGF saidm but yes, that’s pretty much what I think 🙂

ParticipantI like the idea that the ‘cursed’ hand might by psychological rather than an actual curse. Rumple’s planted the idea of the hand bringing out the worst in Hook and perhaps Hook’s still not quite as reformed as he thinks he is. There’s always going to be a little darknss in him.

ParticipantEmma Swan is a very multifaceted, complicated woman and she can have different layers to her. It doesn’t make her weak to show her feminine side every once in awhile. Falling in love doesn’t make you weak either, especially when love is strength. Not weakness.
I remember seeing an interview with Jen saying that is the exact reason why she likes the way A&E write Emma. She is a strong women but that doesn’t mean she’s not allowed to have feelings. That pretty much sounds like a normal well adjusted independent woman to me. 🙂
