I read from another thread, can’t recall which one, but I’m responding in Swanfire if it”s ok. The topic discussed if kids would be affected by some of the scenes and dialogues they see and hear and if the kids see it as fun. Gifted writers, keep their writing simple yet vivid in their narritive. Gifted writers use imaginative and ambiguous metaphors to convey both good and bad consequences, or deliver cheesy situations in beguiling and creative ways.
Fun can be interpreted and expressed as amusing, delightful, comical, farciful etc etc. Fun is NOT extolling vices such as cheating, or debasing relationships and call it entertainment, that IMO is shoddy writing. The pre teens who watch the show, haven’t yet acquired the experience and the desire to do the right thing, the ability to distinguish between the two. That is the responsibility of the OUAT writers to instil, especially to the younger audience, that good always wins, honour, altruism, never losing hope and selfless love are not behaviours to shun.
For the most part, the AE team of writers have been able to communicate these attributes in the stories they have written in magical yet imbued with dark overtones. Sadly, for whatever reason, perhaps ratings, perhaps some executives who call the shots, cannot relate to those awesome attributes, and are guessing that cheating, using people for pleasure are what the OUAT audience, including kids. WRONG!
The OUAT writers owe an allegiance to themselves, that includes A & E, to write from their hearts and their amazing talent. A & E created a wonderfully enigmatic and distinctive world filled with fairy tale characters. I would like to believe that A & E have values and virtues that they have incorporated into OUAT. I would like to believe that these values and virtues have not been traded for the ‘Harlequin Romance’ cliches the executives think the fans want. The majority of the fans, I hope, want real, deep, sophisticated romance and relationships.
I believe A & E and their writers are messing with our dedication to OUAT and SWANFIRE. We shall see at season 3 finale Baelfire’s return.

Enchantedfan, the tent is in the corner to your right, under that heavy oak table there. It contains the few remaining shards of hope in the SF fanbase. Feel free to grab some cocoa and come on in.
Thank You, I will. I will be in good company. We’ll play Journey’s ” don’t stop believing, hold on to that feeling” music, ‘clink’ our mugs and wait for the others to join us:o) Can we invite AE? Not yet……too soon! Hee Hee

enchantedfanParticipantThe last few episodes reeks of double dealing from the AE camp. A hypocrisy that cannot be disguised as “bold story telling.” That is what my brain tells me. My heart, however, says different. I agree with RG and the others who say that the characters are acting OCC, so suspicious to me. It seems so contrived, the story lines, the interactions of the main characters, especially the release of the recent spoiler pics for 3×17. I still assert that AE has a plan and it’s intended for shock value for 3×22. Please forgive my apparent naïveté . I still believe in and am a devoted SWANFIRE fan……

enchantedfanParticipantI became truly enchanted with OUAT when Baelfire aka Neal, debuted in “Broken” . MRJ rocked Neal, and SWANFIRE lit the screen whenever he and Emma appeared together.
And I am finding myself lately becoming disenchanted with how the some of the writers are dumbing down the original premise of the show: values, family, bravery, faith in happy endings, good always wins, truthfulness. Do the writers really think that outrageous behaviour will titillate a segment of the audience that is clueless about selfless love?
Despite the last few episodes, I still have faith AE never intended to end Baelfire’s life, only suspend it, to give the heart and essence of OUAT new life. There is a line from “The Miller’s Daughter” Rumple says to Cora, something to the effect: “I will amend, our contract. Instead of you owing me some random firstborn child, you owe me my child?”
This was intended to be Rumple and Cora’s child, but I am hoping AE may use this line to open the door for Baelfire’s return. Far fetched I know. I can hope.

enchantedfanParticipant“Kiss Emma and remove her powers, or everyone she loves dies”
So Zelena curses Hook’s lips. I find that laughable…..shame on the writers for thinking this up. I don’t find Zelena scary, but I do find her unstable and unstable people make mistakes. Zelena is afraid of Emma’s powerful magic and as Hook said, for some reason, Zelena can’t kill Emma. Zelena’s threat is empty because if she can’t harm Emma, nothing will, not even a lip curse. Even Cora, who was just as powerful, couldn’t remove Emma’s heart!
What’s not laughable is Zelena’s threat to harm Emma’s loved ones. Hook has a dilemma. How will the writers solve this Lip Curse?
As far as Zelena knowing the comings and goings of everyone, she also probably used that crystal eye on the floor in Walsh the Wizard’s chamber, to spy on everyone.

enchantedfanParticipantI feel so sorry for ‘Killian’, when in a future episode, Emma lets him down as a love interest.
My interpretation of 3×17 was a developing friendship between these two, and in particular, Killian’s rocky road to a caring and conscientious character. I really, really, really, do not see the romance between these two. It does seem rushed doesn’t it. How many times was the audience surprised at past outcomes. Many times. The OUAT writers and AE have already written the scripts for the rest of season 3, and perhaps, a few for season 4. There is a storyline we are not privy to until the deliberate sneak peeks and photos are released for us to speculate on. The writers wrote a scene of a closed casket – why closed? Why didn’t the writers show Neal in the casket? To mislead the fans? Bold storytelling.
Emma’s character, as the writers are developing her, is slowly accepting another aspect of her nature. It’s hard to take in your true lineage, your reluctant mission in life. Of course, Emma wants some normality to balance these forces within her. That does not, IMO, translate into romance, it translates into a friendship. For me, the writers are showing Killian as an unrequited lover, a man who has met a woman that can be a friend, not a lover. Something completely new to Killian and he mistakes it for romantic love.
It’s not wishful thinking on my part to soooooo want to believe the writers have not written off Baelfire. I think I get the direction they are going, there is after all another season to write, more adventures, more villains who pop up. Look at what’s in store next week…….a séance !!!!!! To bring back the dead!!!!! Whahhhhh!!!
I hope I’m not tiring some of you with my persistant ramblings on my faith that Swanfire is the end game. As AE said, “Happy endings are never easy”

enchantedfanParticipantRe-read all the OUAT Lightening Rounds from TV Guide, to see if I am misleading myself, hanging on to a ‘straw’ of hope. BUT the wavering only lasted less than a minute. It is only logical, that storytelling requires detours now and then to keep the storytelling interesting and the audience curious to see what happens next.
From Lightening Round # 6:
Even though Neal is engaged to Tamara (Sonequa Martin-Green), is there still hope for him and Emma?
Kitsis: This entire show is about hope. We would never suggest you lose it for anybody on this show.
Horowitz: There’s always hope on Once Upon a TimeFrom # 12:
“By killing Neal ( Michael Raymond-James), have you robbed Emma of a happy ending? Kitsis: Yes, and she will be miserable from here on out. No! We haven’t robbed anyone of anything. We’ve always said on this show that happy endings are something you have to work for. They don’t come overnight.”
and
“Is there a chance we could see a flash-forward on Once?
Horowitz: Probably not.
Kitsis: Never say never”It’s the “never say never” ‘golden thread’ that I am holding onto.
I hope the writers found a way for Baelfire, while at his father’s castle, put together a protection spell for himself after he and Belle find the key to the Dark Ones’s Vault and after they overhear Zelena’s conversation with Lumiere.
We never saw Baelfire’s body recovered from the woods or put into a coffin. Call me a rosy eyed optimist, but I still have faith AE have a happy ending for the Swanfire family.

enchantedfanParticipantIn order for Zelena to enact the curse she HAD to sacrifice the heart of someone she loved. This storyline is not yet revealed.
Zelena, we now know, wants a second chance. It could be that the second chance is to bring back the one she sacrificed his/her heart for the curse to take place.
Zelena is emotionally unstable, angry, spiteful, filled with blind jealousy on how her life turned out. Zelena’s obsessive behaviour, for me, points to a desperation to reverse her rash and reckless decision to sacrifice a beloved heart, a decision made in a furious outburst that she regrets?
Could be a lover, or perhaps an unthinkably horrible mistake, a child she loved? Hence her fixation with Snowing’s baby. This unborn child definitely is the key foundation to this unfolding storyline, perhaps the bold storyline A & E spoke about.

enchantedfanParticipantRG…..the fire of hope starts with the teeniest of a spark. That is all it takes to flare up and provide the warmth hope gives.
I have faith the AE team know what they are doing…..they will not abandon Baelfire.
Hugs to all :o)
