I’ve also been wondering why AE & Co would spend creative energy to create such a rich character as Baelfire, have him travel from one world to another, and not take advantage of the unlimited stories available to the OUAT writers of Baelfire’s adventures. BTW I like typing BAELFIRE!
That is why I feel so strongly…IMO… that the OUAT writers had to change direction and made the decision, for future storytelling, to focus on Baelfire. He is the reason for the curse as RG rightly reminds us.
Baelfire adopted the name “Neal Cassiday” to fit in the PDW. The writers could only go so far to evoke the depth of this character, known as ” Neal” to Emma.
Such a wealth of stories could fit beautifully into the OUAT fairytale of romance and timeless legends. After all, the writers have introduced their take on Robin Hood, Oz, Camelot to name a few.
If Rumple’s character was merged as the Beast from “Beauty and the Beast” and as the Crocodile, perhaps the OUAT writers now are able to explore Baelfire’s adventures and incorporate his character with other fairytale personalties. Just an hypothesis.
May I also comment again how the OUAT writers are trying to steer the interactions between Emma and Hook. IMO, it’s a deflection nothing more, and to milk the adoration of the ‘tween thinking mentality of some of the fans, who watch commercials.
I too think Emma and Hook would make great friends.
Swanfire will be revived, rekindled, restored, I just know it :o)

I’ve often wondered; did Emma fall in love with Neal or with Baelfire’s essence, in other words, his heart and soul? After all, Neal IS Baelfire. IMO, Emma fell in love with Baelfire, known as ‘Neal Cassiday’ in the present day world. My intuition tells me Baelfire has not died. I also think AE & CO. have indeed shifted gears in respect to Baelfire and my sixth sense tells me it’s all good! Could be that Neal must live in the present day world as Baelfire for OUAT to evolve and for Emma to rediscover the man she fell in love with……Baelfire.
I am placing my faith in AE & Co., that the writers are dangling a carrot, diverting the OUAT fans from their true intentions; that their end game is Baelfire + Emma + Henry.
Emma is a strong, self reliant woman and for the writers to have her swoon for Hookie is laughable…..sorry CSer’s……but honestly, Emma is no damsel in distress. It’s an awkward interaction between Emma and Hook, masquerading as a potential romance. I prefer ‘I want you to be happy” than “I will win your heart” any day.
Emma is not a prize to be won and then discarded when the next love challenge comes along. Do the writers think all the OUAT female fans are tweens? Really?

Re watched “Quiet Minds” after 10 days, and during that poignant scene between him and Emma, Neal said something that struck me as unusual. He said “I’ll be watching over you guys from somewhere”
From where?……over the rainbow?
If this has already been discussed, please tell me which post or thread.
Why would the A & E team write this line? There has to be a significance to those words. I still maintain that we haven’t seen the last of Neal.
Jaxar is on to something when he brought up the questions about who is Neal, and what was Bae’s journey and life before he adopted the name Neal Cassidy.
Bae / Neal is a very intriguing character that had such promise, was not explored to its full potential and has yet to be explored. I cannot for one moment believe the AE team would squander such a rich character as Bae/Neal, and IMO a pivotal character in OUAT.

I enjoy reading anything SWANFIRE, nor tire of admiring the beautiful fan pics.
I posted the song “Impossible” from the musical Cinderella and dedicated it to A & E, because I believe they never intended to kill off Neal permanently, that it was bold move to promote their original intention of their creation. Retelling fairy tales that reinforce parental love of children ….remember Jefferson and his daughter….TLK awakens the heart of a loved one, presumed dead. How many times has this happened in OUAT?
That is why I feel A & E and their writers have already developed a story that will somehow, someway bring back Neal…….maybe as Bae?

Sacrificing your child’s heart is very dark. Not the first time the OUAT writers have written children surrounded by violence, for example Hansel and Gretel and the Blind Witch, Horder forcing children to fight in the Ogre Wars. It must be a very dark revenge for Zelena to sacrifice the heart of the one she loves most to enact the curse…..to take away Regina’s happy ending!!!!
These sisters are mirrors of each others….seeking relentless revenge.
That being said, I do agree that it is also possible that Zelena reluctantly sacrificed the heart of her lover.
Will the upcoming episodes reveal what happened to Zelena that enflamed her desire to destroy Regina’s happy ending?
Did Zelena somehow see with a magic globe, Regina happy with Henry after Zelena lost her child?
Was Zelena so distraught losing her child that she struck a deal with the Wizard and what was that deal?
It would seem strange to find out what makes Zelena tick and defeat her in the remaining episodes.
There is a potential storytelling here and maybe A & E have decided continue this storyline into S4, spinning a dark twist to the land of OZ?

I hope this discussion generates some very interesting speculations regarding the heart Zelena chose to enact the curse and which characters played a role in her decision.
Perhaps it is a direction A & E are heading into season 4?

Just my theory. Zelena is obsessed with Snow’s child. It is just a theory, but a plausible one. Zelena wants what Rumple has spent a lifetime seeking….a child.
It may not be her child’s heart she sacrificed, I can’t speculate who else she could have dearly loved to sacrifice a heart.
Perhaps Zelena was separated from her child. She is behaving like a mad person, …..like Jefferson behaved, because he was separated from his daughter.
As Cinders said, perhaps Zelena is trying to go back to OZ,….. by collecting a heart, a brain and courage, …..to save her child.

Zelena said in 3×14 “what I’m after Rumple is something you spent a lifetime seeking” I’ve been wondering, whose heart did Zelena sacrifice to enact the second curse?
It would have to be someone she dearly loved and I am theorizing it would have been her child. Something horrendous must have happened to Zelena that might have driven her mad to want to sacrifice her child’s heart to enact the curse again. That could be the reason why Zelena is so invested in Snow and Charmings baby, why she sought the DO teachings ……so she could bring back her child and avenge the wrong done to her?
