This scene always made me wonder just who Emma has dated in the past o.O lol ;)

Well, if we’re talking fairytale characters–Bluebeard? Haha.

Thanks & agreed on the Blackbeard thing as well- I actually thought Ariel was the one being rather selfish there, why should she expect Hook give up everything he has in the world for her, when she has the means & will find her man after she’s told he’s on an island somewhere- even if there was no food, how exactly did she plan on finding him after Hook handed over his ship, totally lost his reputation & therefore his ability to lead men & make a living (even if it was pirating)?….. oh that’s right swim off & live HEA, well Killy was left standing with nothing & no one… but yeah, sure, he was totally the selfish one in that situation

You know, that had occurred to me recently but slipped my mind while I was writing that post…I mean, think about it: Someone you don’t really know comes up and says that the person they love will die if you don’t give up literally everything you have. Your house, your assets, your reputation and thereby your career and your friends, everything. Would you do it? Theoretically sure, someone’s life should be worth more than material possessions, but the reality is that people do have basic needs and I’m betting a good 99.9% of the population wouldn’t voluntarily destroy their lives for a stranger. For someone they love on the other hand…well. We know how that goes. 😉 (Also–if he’d given up the Jolly Roger then, how would anyone have ever broken the second–or third?–curse and stopped Zelena?)

I think I first heard that word in a song from the musical “Li’l Abner” when I went to see a friend’s production in high school; there’s a song in it called “If I had my druthers”. The word comes from a shortening of of “I’d rather…”

But yeah, I assume Belle’s mother is going to die because she’s dead in the Disney movie, isn’t she? I guess we never really know that for sure, but we never see her. I’m definitely looking forward to getting some more of Belle’s backstory! 🙂

First of all: get well soon, Surayya and Jenna_B!

And I agree with everyone else that that was a really lovely essay, and like Jenna I definitely never noticed the empty chair thing either! I’ll definitely be watching for that when I go through S3 again now that I have the Blu-Rays. I think I missed a lot of stuff toward the end of that episode because I was so irritated by that last part with Blackbeard (optional bonus rant below).

I mean first of all, clearly mermaids can swim at lightning speed–we’ve seen evidence of that several times, and at the end of this episode Regina says “At the rate mermaids swim, she’s probably already there.” So in a matter of hours (maybe even minutes, I’m not sure!), Ariel could have gotten from Storybrooke to some obscure island in FTL. At that rate, of course she would’ve been able to find Eric before he starved to death! She clearly had no problem just looking on every deserted island in the EF, since that’s what she did, and he was fine. Secondly, if he really wanted to prove that he was still a ruthless pirate or whatever, surely Hook would’ve just tortured the information out of Blackbeard. I mean come on, just because Blackbeard said there were only two options–give up the ship and get Eric or essentially kill them both–didn’t mean that that was the case. Blackbeard was the loser; he wasn’t really in a position to be dictating terms!

I agree too. He offered Bae a chance/choice for The Jolly Roger to be his home too and Bae turned him down.

There’s that word again, choice. Hook gave him the choice. He didn’t force him to stay. Bae made his choice to leave.

As much as the haters want to hate on Hook for every single tiny little thing, at least when it comes to the people he loves, he gives them choices. He in no way takes away another’s person’s agency. Milah made her choice, Bae made his choice and he let Emma decide what she wanted. You can’t fault the man for caring about what the other person wants to do.

Yes, exactly! In addition to Bae, that’s why I can’t stand allegations about “stealing” Rumple’s wife. She left of her own free will because she WANTED to, and saying she was “stolen” is saying you think someone’s wife is his property. And no, Hook didn’t “coerce” Emma into kissing him in 305. He was just being his usual flirty self. He didn’t actually expect her to kiss him; he was clearly surprised when she did. (Not to mention that it’s clear that he didn’t even plan on announcing that he’d saved Charming’s life and expect praise from everyone; Charming brought it up himself and Hook even asked him if he was sure it was a good idea to say anything about it. Okay, so I mentioned it.)

And I would disagree with the ‘child abandoning’ accusation of Hook. Yeah, he handed Bae over to Pan, but what was he supposed to do? Bae wanted to leave. Was Hook supposed to hold him captive on his ship?

I’ve always thought that too! (But been a little afraid to say it, lol.) I mean, Bae demanded to leave and even tried to kill him. If he had kept him captive on the ship, Bae might’ve murdered him in his sleep or something (not likely really, but you never know). And it’s not like it would’ve been any different if they’d just put him on the island somewhere; Pan knew everything that happened there anyway. And without a portal, there wasn’t anywhere else to go except maybe back in the ocean.

Also…there’s another person who should’ve reacted differently to finding out that Rumple murdered Milah. Why on earth did that not seem to bother Baelfire? I guess his first instinct might have been to think Hook was lying, but logically it’s not like Hook would’ve risked his life for Milah’s son and kept her self-portrait all that time if she’d just been some random woman he’d abducted.

I for one am glad to see Kristen back and not because of Maleficent. Since they left Aurora in SB in S3, and True Blood was ending I had an inkling that this was coming (that darned black fairy kept popping up).

A&E probably always wanted to bring Maleficent back, movie or not. She is the most popular of the Disney villains, and she was only given limited screentime previously because Kristin was tied up with True Blood. Of course the movie was likely an extra incentive to do so, but let’s face it, it probably still would have happened. Whether it will strictly be flashbacks, or if there’s some “magical handwaving” to bring her back in present day, remains to be seen. Either way, I always wanted to see her story on the show fleshed out more, especially in regards to Aurora and Philip. I mean Aurora and Maleficent have yet to share a single scene. Another thing is if Season 4B’s major story arc is Sleeping Beauty centric, that’s further bringing the show back to its fairy tale roots.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I KNEW IT! I KNEW SHE’D BE BACK :D Kristin Van Stratwn is the reason I started watching OUAT!! I LOVE HER AS PAM AND I LOVE HER AA MALEFICENT AND NOW MY DAY IS JUST COMPLETE.

Yes, yes, and yes! I too imagine they were hoping to tell this story at some point, movie or no movie. I’m sure they’ll come up with something to get her back to life in the present day if she’s supposed to be the main villain in 4B. If she is indeed the infamous Black Fairy, then at least I think it’ll be more believable than Charming coming back with half of Snow’s heart, haha.

I love Kristen Bauer, and actually I love Sarah Bolger too–I’d love to see more of both of them. Maybe we can finally find out stuff like what Aurora meant when she referred to Maleficent having gone after her mother first and how Aurora and Mulan got Phillip back. Actually I read Perrault’s version recently, and “Aurore” really was the daughter of the original sleeping beauty and her prince (who didn’t have names IIRC). (Then the prince’s part-ogre mother tried to eat both the children and the princess but the cook substituted various animals and it all worked out in the end.)

Also, Hook recognized her somehow when Regina sent him to to distract her while she got the failsafe. And speaking of, there’s also whatever went down between her and Regina before what we saw in 102. (Just as long as she’s not Cora’s REAL firstborn that she had as a teenager or something!) And Will got in some trouble with her when he stole–was it a mirror?–from her in a flashback on an episode of OUAT in Wonderland.

Ooh, lots of stuff here today! I’m glad to hear about your conversation with the rational SFers, Surraya. I’d actually quite like to have a more objective conversation about that kind of thing–I really do like to examine the thoughts and motivations on the other side of any issue on which I feel strongly, be it something relatively inconsequential like a TV show or an important political issue. Mostly I just see angry, crazy, rants on Tumblr, haha.

And re: the necklace…as far as I’m concerned that makes no sense. There was an awful lot of random stuff in Gold’s shop that came over from the first curse. Maybe all of that was born of true love as well and TL is actually common as dirt? Yeah, I don’t think so. And it just seems like another disconnect between Neal and Emma–he thinks it’s a symbol of their love while she said it was a reminder never to trust anyone.

I was going to say more in response to Bo-Peep’s and POM’s posts, but I think I’ll save that one for later to avoid another monster post. 🙂

Yeah, it seems to me that Emma’s only confirmed TL is Henry as of right now…I have several theories about why the CPR “kiss” might not have worked from a mechanical perspective (he was technically dead when their lips touched and TLK doesn’t bring back the dead, Zelena’s curse acted as a physical barrier like the gold was to Frederick when Abigail tried to kiss him and bring him back, etc.) but those I will freely admit are crack theories visible only behind very strong shipper goggles, haha. I think it was just a timing thing…TL doesn’t automatically happen; both parties have to come to that conclusion and admit it to themselves–we need only look at the amnesia kisses to know that.

What has nothing to do with shipper goggles or rose-colored glasses though are all of the other things, like those anti-parallel images from several pages back. One person who doesn’t believe in Emma and belittles her concerns versus the someone who does believe in her and takes her seriously. And like I said before, re-watching Manhattan a few weeks ago really makes me wonder how anyone thought that that was a healthy relationship. (I can see how one might be a Neal fan and ship SF, but as an Emma fan? I don’t get it.)

And of course going back even farther, there’s that keychain in Tallahassee (https://oncepodcast.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/Keychains-Tallahassee-2×06.jpg). It could just be a coincidence, but…I mean, the skull and crossbones (also known as the freaking “Jolly Roger”!) in a heart, in that particular episode? In the episode that shows us how one guy she fell for broke her heart, hurting her so deeply that that betrayal still affected her in the present–ten years later–so that when she feels herself falling for another man she panics and betrays him first? With the pirate-heart keychain right there where Neal is stealing the swan keychain that becomes a symbol of that betrayal? I don’t know what made me think of that recently, and I assume it’s been discussed here before in the hundreds of pages that I wasn’t here for, but it kinda fits a little too well to be some sort of happy accident.
