Maybe every time the curse gets reused, it loses some of its potency and takes fewer and fewer people? Haha.
Really though, my theory is nearly the same as Jenna’s: that the EF isn’t a whole world by itself, and the curse must not cover the entirety of whatever world the EF is in. If that’s the case, then it would all make sense, more or less…He outran the curse to some other part of that world whereupon he heard of someone with a magic bean (who wanted a really fast ship, I guess? ha)–I don’t remember exactly what was said about any remaining magic beans, though.
However, when he was telling Emma what had happened, Hook did make it sound like it was only after the curse had taken effect that even a magic bean would’ve been able to get someone to our world, because it had broken down the walls or whatever, so it seems like that part does at least add up. As for how large the curse’s reach is and whether the EF is an entire world of its own or maybe just a continent or something…still lots of questions there.

I feel like getting moody and causing trouble just to cause trouble start to become a common thing around that age, right? Also I could probably see Henry having a problem with Emma “moving on” so quickly after Neal’s death, even though they haven’t really been together for over a decade.
And if they go the real Snow Queen route–which I’d love but doubt will happen–I think it’d be very interesting to have Henry maybe get upset about Emma’s new relationship and then go off sulking when he’s picked up by Elsa and sort of kidnapped or lured away like Kay in the original HCA story.
And of course I too would LOVE to see some “Hook-clashing-with-modern-technology-and-culture” scenes…the possibilities are endless! 🙂
Epona_610ParticipantJust having seen bits of that “letter” before is what prompted my last post about the sickening things being said, but I decided not to read the whole thing right then since I was leaving to go out to dinner and didn’t want that on my mind. So right now I just took a deep breath and read it.
That writer is a crazy person. I mean…not only are there blatant lies about the show/characters themselves (I’m pretty sure no one has “killed…tortured, and mutilated children” on this show. It’s a PG-rated show on ABC, not Game of Thrones. And OUAT’s Hook–their version, not the one from the original book–hasn’t actually done many bad things, especially when compared to Rumpel and Regina) and the vicious language (which is certainly bad enough), but there’s also the suggestions of violence. I’m not exaggerating when I say I very much hope that this person gets some sort of therapy, and soon.
On a lighter note, that story that Jenna_B posted is really cute. Thanks for sharing! Overall I’m just really glad to have this little bubble of sanity. 🙂
Epona_610ParticipantOh my. I get being upset with the way the story went or whatever, but these ad hominem attacks on the real-life individuals involved in this show are getting a little sickening.
Epona_610ParticipantWow. I like Twitter a lot, but there sure are some crazy people who spend way too much time there. I can’t imagine dealing with all of the negativity like that. Of course I also can’t imagine putting out so much hate directly to the people involved; it’s just kind of awful.
And okay, I know this has been said before (several times, I’m sure), but how on earth can these haters keep whining about “fan pandering” (despite evidence to the contrary, but even aside from that) and then go online and demand that they be pandered to? That’s even more obviously hypocritical than some of their other arguments, about which you might actually have to think for a couple of seconds before said hypocrisy becomes evident, haha. 😉
Epona_610Participant@surayya Where did that come from? I hadn’t seen it either but that’s a fun video–thanks for posting it! I particularly enjoyed the sword-fight question; I’d love to see that on the show (we haven’t seen that, have we? I need to re-watch this season, haha), although preferably in practice or something, not actually trying to kill each other…
Epona_610ParticipantOne more quick thing about Milah–she, like Neal, is a character about whom I didn’t have much of an opinion until I reconsidered her story when I started seeing the haters throwing around their misogyny accusations. People keep claiming that Hook “stole” her. Women are not property to be stolen. Women can be kidnapped, assaulted, murdered…but none of that remotely applies to their situation (except for the murdering part by Rumpel). Theft refers to property, not people. That language and accusation are real examples of misogyny.
Also that essay was great–I especially enjoyed the part about how clearly Snow is also a stalker and thereby furthering rape culture…but yeah, I also really enjoy this thread and how reasonable everyone seems to be, even when disagreeing about stuff. And of course the adorable, hot, and/or hilarious gifs and videos don’t hurt either. 😉
Epona_610ParticipantIt would be interesting to see those flash backs, yes- I seriously doubt we’ll get any though 🙁 , which is a shame, as it could be a great way to ‘grow’ at least 2 of our main characters directly & ALL the other mains indirectly, through their connections with either Emma or Belle.
Yeah, I’d love to see that too, but I also don’t think it’ll happen. We pretty much know those backstories now, so I don’t see that contributing any more to the narrative. Unless maybe Belle finds out what Rumpel’s been up to and gets really mad at him and he remembers Milah being really angry at him before she left or something. But of course they only have so much time each week, and I imagine we’ll be getting a lot of Elsa flashbacks in the near future too. Although heck, maybe Milah is Elsa’s second cousin once removed or her bastard half-sister or something, haha.
Epona_610ParticipantAnother great post- Rum & cookies for you too (Glad I’m not the only one who actually listened to A&E when they explained Milah’s actions & her situation- seemed like I was for a while there lol )
I guess there are at least a couple of us? Hehe. But yeah, I think that everyone is quick to hate Milah because they love Rumpel (and I do too, he’s a great character), but she certainly had good reason for at least some of her actions, even if those justifications wouldn’t have been deemed valid in that particular time period. And it wasn’t as though she didn’t try to stick it out–she tried for four years after Rumpel came home from the ogre wars, and she would’ve stayed if he’d just agreed that the three of them could leave the village, but he refused. Of course, I do agree that there really wasn’t any excuse for her having left the way she did. But then there was certainly no excuse for his murdering her either.
And thanks! Now that strawberries are in season I could totally put that rum in a nice daiquiri…
Epona_610ParticipantI very much agree with the above! I also feel like I’m one of a very small minority that can sympathize with Milah…she wasn’t awful to Rumpel until he wounded himself in order to return from the wars, thus making himself (and therefore Milah by extension) a village pariah because of his cowardice (although personally I can see how his actions required courage in a way as well, but that’s a whole different discussion). His actions made her life miserable, so of course she was angry with him.
And something I think people seem to forget is that the night before Milah left, she asked Rumpel to move somewhere else, where they could start over without his reputation dragging them down. Since he couldn’t even do that for her, she left him for the life she wanted. And then ten years later, he murdered her for it. I wouldn’t necessarily equate that with “rape culture”, but I can see the argument there–he felt that as his wife, he basically owned her and she had no right to make her own decisions. I see it more as murdering her simply because she hurt him, but either way, I think murdering Milah was one of the worst things we’ve seen him do. I mean, he murdered his son’s mother! Yes she had left, but who knows what might have happened if she’d tried to establish a relationship with her son when he was older.
I also take issue with the whole “she’s-evil-because-she-left-her-son” thing. I know I’m looking at it as a modern person and all, but the idea that a woman’s worth is only as great as her ability to have and nurture children really bugs me. I think I’ve said it before on this thread, but would it have been any better for Bae to grow up with a mother who hated and resented his father, and as a result went out drinking every night? I think Milah knew that as much as she’d grown to loathe Rumpel, he still genuinely loved his son and would take good care of him. It wasn’t like Cora leaving Zelena in the middle of the woods—she knew Bae would be taken care of and apparently regretted having had to leave him behind.
So yeah…I don’t necessarily identify with Milah myself (luckily for me!), but I certainly do feel bad for her. Of course, I really like Rumpel as a character too—I just kind of have to forget that he murdered his first wife/mother of his son for having hurt and insulted him, just like I enjoy Regina’s story and have to sort of block out the fact that she once ordered the massacre of an entire village to get on her side.
Whew, long post—now to catch up on the more fun stuff!
