That interview where Barbara Hershey mentioned that she’d just turned someone into a fish, when was that done? Could that have been for this ep? All the talk of her being the one behind this murder got me wondering if she’s gonna fish-ify someone and make it look like Regina did it. Having the guy who was turned into an animal when he got his second chance, being turned back into an animal when he dies, would be sort of poetic, in a morbid kind of way. Though I’d like Archie to stick around for the Geppetto/Pinocchio reunion, so that’d be the most upsetting thing for me if he dies right now. I guess the death of Jiminy could be something that would draw Pinocchio out of wherever he’s hiding though, so maybe they could go that route with it.
I too would love to see some justice for our beloved Graham. Whether or not it’s addressed in this ep, it’d be nice to have it brought up at some point.
Here is the Barbara Hershey interview. The date posted next to the video clip is November 19th.

It’s all good. You don’t have to hurry. I’m a patient person π
Saw some of the pictures in the links you posted. My what beautiful subway art you’ve got over there. The Alice in Wonderland artwork is great. You mentioned Grumpy might be the egg-man. But I think the egg-man’s just Humpty Dumpty from the wonderland story. He’s a bit grumpy though π
You are probably right about the Humpty part….Grumpy’s cracked shell is long gone. π I would be curious to know how many pieces of art there are in the entire system. The mosaics, tiles and stained glass are amazing.
Here is an entertaining documentary about the art. – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A322BlnRlDA

I think this is too much stretching. If you search hard enough, you’ll find what it is you’re looking for. If this art was shown in the show when Neal was walking home, I’d be more inclined to accept it.
I can see how some would think it is a stretch but when we look at Neal Cassidy’s apartment it is stuffed full of communication arts items. These items are not there accidentally. We have graphic arts, music cover arts, advertising arts, metal pottery arts, object arts (the phonograph horn elbow on top of his shelf) and we even have a nod to the graphic arts project called The Donut Project. Two of the posters (the red hand and the bike) are graphic arts designs from Aesthetic Apparatus. In the subway you will find a red hand in two places…and you will find the bike.)
In the episode Broken we are not given Neal’s name. All we know about him is that he is a “NewYorker.” When you put “NewYorker” and graphic design together you get a man called Christoph Niemann….and his wonderful art….including his delightful book on the Subway and the New York Times blog Boys and the Subway.
Lots of people think that Neal is Baelfire…including me…and what was all over Baelfire’s home…art sketches made by his mom. Many of the set backgrounds are echos of the MTA Art for Transit. There are too many connections and these writers have done an excellent job in layering the various art forms together.
There are also countless “underground” references and nods sprinkled throughout the entire series. Just recently we saw Belle peaking in on Rumple who was underground…we had Henry going to the underground rail tracks searching for clues…we have an underground vault…we had a hidden dragon underground…these are just a few of the many, many references. We even have the town symbol with the underground part of the tree showing.
We have Neal who has not been connected to the Enchanted Forest…I believe the subway connects him in a powerful way.
fairy dustParticipantWhat if Regina is accused of murdering August…he is missing with no one knowing what happened to him. It would make sense that Emma believes Regina did not kill him because Emma knows what really happened.

Looks like killing off Sheriff Graham on the show traumatized a lot of people for the rest of their (OUaT) lives. Maybe should launch a virtual therapy group. π
That is interesting about the dart game cricket. But, btw, the term hat-trick is used in many sports, it is said to come from the bat-and-ball game cricket.
Think whatever cricket version the writers thought of, we should expect that there will some sort of game or match go on (plenty of players, teams in town) – and a good guess is that Archie is right in the middle of it. Stating just the obvious. π
Archie comes with some baggage. He became a cricket and the conscience because he felt guilty. Remember, he is responsible, that Geppetto lost his parents. He knew Rumple, his parents had dealings with him. Jiminey didn’t manage to leave his awful parents on his own and asked Rumple for a way to get free of them. The potion he got though was later switched by Archies’s father, and so instead Geppetto’s parents were turned into wooden puppets (and those can be found in Mr. Gold’s shop). Maybe Hook or Cora get to him because of all that, appealing to Archie’s still existing guilty feelings. Not to mention he is probably the only one trying to give Regina a real chance – not least because Archie believes in redemption for his own good. Archie might try to mediate and then make things only worse for everybody.
There are so many ways this episode could go. We did see Graham throw a hat trick when he was throwing darts in Granny’s diner during the Heart is a Lonley Hunter episode. Of course the word hat trick also has the image of three things going into a hat…so we think of Jefferson. And then in the episode with Archie and his parents we have Archie and his parents trying to trick Gepetto’s parents…and we have Archie trying to trick his own parents…and we have Archie’s parents trying to trick him. In the Cricket Game we have Regina’s mother showing up…and of course Regina tried to trick her mother sending Hook in to kill her and we end up with Cora tricking Regina by pretending to be dead. We have Hook coming…who tricked Rumple into thinking he had the bean in his hand. We have Emma who tricked Hook when she hand-cuffed him. Lots of tricking going on.
Seeing that this is the first episode we have where Cora and Rumple will be back in Storybrooke it seems that this will not just be a Archie centered episode. How they decide to play this out will be very interesting.

You may be right, because I don’t see how they could have used Captain Hook either, if they didn’t have the rights to Peter Pan. Then again, his name is Killian Jones, not “James Hook” as is canon. So either they have the rights now to Peter Pan, or they’re daring to graze the borderline for what is legal. If they can’t literally use “Peter Pan”, I think a character will probably be like Peter Pan — I think he will be at least, Peter-esque. Peter Pan will still be included into all this, in some way. It could be Neal, or I really love the idea of Hook being both Peter, and Captain Hook. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
That new clue is definitely interesting, but from what I saw from K&H in βLostβ, they do sometimes throw stuff out there (viral techniques) to throw the viewer off scent (I think that might be something they learned from JJ Abrams,. A lot of stuff like that was used in marketing his first Star Trek movie). I do not believe that was by accident, but whether or not itβs any indication of anything, it does keep things interesting.
I absolutely love JJ Abrams…and the Star Trek movie was such an incredible blending of old and new…with the brilliant twist of rewriting the entire timeline in a way that fans accepted.

The name Leroy is a nod to the character Leroy, in Jack Kerouac’s novella, “The Subterraneans.” Subterraneans is about a forbidden romance between a white man and an African-American woman and in this episode, Dreamy, the miner, has a forbidden relationship with Nova, the fairy.
…obviously the Mystery Man of New York who is named Neal Cassidy and Leroy/Grumpy (formerly Dreamy), the miner (get it…he’s a subterranean who works underground.)
The episode, Dreamy, has a similar story-line to the Emma/Neal romance. After falling in love, August Booth/Pinnochio, convinces Neal Cassidy that he needs to end his relationship with Emma. August convinces Neal that he will keep Emma from her destiny. In the Dreamy episode, the Blue Fairy and Bossy convince Dreamy to end his relationship with Nova. They convince him that he would keep Nova from her destiny as a fairy.
Holy Balony! You’re right π I never saw those connections. Thank you so much for sharing. That’s great…
Maybe this will change peoples minds on the episode Dreamy wich lots of people hated, maybe the connection with Emma and Neals story will make people look at it with kinder eyes. I hope so, I always loved that episode. If the New York, New Years eve’s fairydust thing came true, that would be hillarious π I would love that.
This also ties August futher in with the Blue fairy. They are in cahoots with eatchother, no wait August is only Blue fairy’s puppet..
I swear these writers have to be wizards….the layers they have in these stories is amazing.

Many clues about the Mystery Man are embedded in the Leroy character. I think it is very possible that Emma’s Neal is a janitor/caretaker or some other similar position that gives him access to very valuable things. I think he is involved in some type of high dollar theft/fencing of either diamonds/jewelry/or art.
Before Neal met Emma he worked as janitor in Phoenix. That was when he stole some watches. And wouldn’t be too surprised if he hasn’t changed that much and is still in some way in that business, janitor and theft as well.
Great point about Neal’s janitor job and the watch theft.

Here is a link that will let you explore the art on all the subway lines. The link does not show all the displays at each station – http://www.mta.info/mta/aft/permanentart/permart.html?agency=nyct
Here is a really good site that will give you more of the art at each station. – http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/artwork
The Canal St. station is the closest station to neal Cassidy’s apartment.
