Upset that such an instruction was issued or upset that it wasn’t of JMo’s own free will? Quote The former from what I can tell. People were angry that the magazine/interviewer was treating her like an object, forcing her to drape herself on Colin, be near Coin, ect. I still haven’t seen a video of this interview.
Yeah, it’s inappropriate, though sadly common in media. I wonder what would happen if actors just flat out said ‘no’? I mean, I’m sure there’s pressure, but nobody can force them, right? Actors can refuse on the basis that they need some control over their image as they’re the face for the show and hence targets for hate.

sciencevsmagicParticipantOhhhhhh, the dude played Homer in Marsden’s series.
sciencevsmagicParticipantOf course, none of it is real. But I feel bad for Mrs. O’Donoghue because there are sadly many vocal fans who cannot tell the difference between acting and reality. JMo has even had to tweet her fans to respect Colin’s wife and his marriage, based on the kinds of inappropriate tweets they send her and Colin sometimes. Given that they know how crazy the fans can be, one would think they could at least play things down at CC. Instead, they seem to play it up for the camera. I’m sure it’s part of the job, but they don’t have to do it to such an extent. Just my opinion.
Don’t get me wrong, I agree with you. I was just hesitant to judge JMo and Colin for their behaviour until I knew what was behind it. But having thought about it a bit more, I am inclined to hold them partially responsible. They could refuse. It’s not like they can be fired. Since they know about the Twitter bullying, it’s up to them and the showrunners to do everything in their control to calm the fans. If they engage in this sort of behaviour then it’s hard to feel sympathy when the crazies unleash the full force of their craziness upon them.
sciencevsmagicParticipantAgain, I know it’s for publicity, but the lady needs a lesson on boundaries. It’s one think to get along with a co-worker, but Colin’s wife cannot be too comfortable with a gorgeous blonde hanging all over her husband like that, even in the name of “promotion.”
I’m hesitant to blame JMo or Colin, simply because I’m pretty sure they’re under instructions to act as touchy feely as possible. They could just refuse I suppose…but, well, I don’t know how this works. As for Mrs O’Donoghue, I suspect she’s made of sterner stuff. She’s married to a super-hot actor who kisses other hot women as part of his job. And these promotional events are part of the job. Just because they’re not in costume, it doens’t mean they’re not acting. None of this is real. That’s how I see it, and I hope for the sake of her sanity, how Mrs O’Donoghue sees it too.
sciencevsmagicParticipantLiked:
– The flying carpet. Not having seen OUATWL, this is my first OUAT flying carpet. I found it oddly thrilling.
– Jafar. Again, it helps not having seen OUATWL.
Mixed feelings:
– Casting of Aladdin. Not quite what I expected. Still, maybe he’ll grow on me.
– Aladdin as the Saviour. This came out of nowhere and has no direct connection with Aladdin’s mythology. It also looks like the show’s ‘Saviour mythology’ will be updated this season, which is worrying after what they did with the Dark One mythology last season. Plus, we know that Emma’s going to get a happy ending, so it’s hard to get concerned about ‘Saviours don’t get happy endings’.
sciencevsmagicParticipantPersonally, I’m not thrilled that they’re venturing beyond fairly tales, myths and Disney movies. Fairy tales in particular have one-dimensional characters, so reinterpreting these, fleshing them out, has a lot of creative potential. But ‘The Count of Monte Cristo’ is a literary classic, with complex and well rounded characters. Reinterpreting these is far more difficult, and likely to come across as awkward AU fanfic unless the context is well chosen and it is skilfully done. I never enjoyed the Whale/Frankenstein backstories and I’m not yet sure about Jekyll and Hyde. All I can hope is that I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
sciencevsmagicParticipantAs a Neal fan, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry over how many fans this show has managed to alienate — all for the sake of the one-handed pirate with a drinking problem. Neal fans certainly saw his death as the show’s downfall, and I don’t think we were wrong. Each passing season has revealed that the show suffers when it promotes CS at all costs.
I would disagree that the sole cause of the show’s downfall is the writers promoting CS to the exclusion of all else. Personally, I think OUAT started going downhill around Cora’s death – well before Neal’s death. There’s an assumption in there that the writers had a plan for the show, and if they’d stuck to it, everything would have been good. But we’ve discussed (extensively) here how A and E are unskilled at character development, relationship building, world building, how poor they are at planning, how they change their plans simply to surprise the fans, how they might not even have created S1 without outside help. There’s nothing to suggest that the show would have been of a higher quality had they stuck to their so called original plan (if there was such a thing) or if they had not paired up Emma and Hook. I suspect it would still have been poor and offensive, only in a different way. They may well have assisinated Neal’s character, the way they have with Rumple, Snowing and Emma. We’ll never know, and the unknown seems more appealing than the current mess. Basically, it boils down to A&E being mediocre show runners, nothing more, nothing less.
sciencevsmagicParticipantWhat is that? A crashed ship in the middle of the forest?
I reckon that’s the blimp/airship that we glimpsed in The Land of Untold Stories. It’s the right size and shape and appears to have a ledge surrounding it. Also, that white material on top and in the trees could be remnants of its balloon.
sciencevsmagicParticipantHere’s an interesting article about the psychology of toxic fandoms.
How Toxic Fandom Ruins It For Everyone
I haven’t had time to ponder too deeply yet, but I think I agree with what he’s saying.
