‘The Chosen’ was a reasonable episode, with lots of great tension, but I was unsatisfied by the ending.
– Agree with @RumplesGirl about Jaha. He’s become…I’m sure there’s a word for it, but it’s not coming to mind. Basically, he’s become so single minded that he’s lost all sense of empathy, fairness and remorse. He’s like one of those extremist religious leaders, which I’m sure is a comparison the show wants us to make. Jaha started off as a sympathetic character in S1, but he’s become increasingly unlikeable with each passing season. In a sense, he’s a good leader, capable of being bold and finding unusual solutions. But he’s become so single minded along the way that he’s lost most of his humanity and maybe become a bit of a sociopath. He unleased all hell with ALIE but hasn’t shown as much remorse as you’d expect, especially compared to the likes of Clarke, Bellamy, Kane and Abby. In a word, I’m glad he’s leaving.
– “I’m one of you? You made me hide under the floor; you floated my mother. I’m not hiding now.” This was a super line from Octavia. Feeling unwanted by Skaikru is a critical part of her character. It should also never be forgotten that Lincoln and Indra of Trikru were the first ones apart from her brother to care deeply about her.
– I loved Octavia rescuing Niylah.
– Abby wanting to commit suicide was a strange piece of writing. I mean, she was willing to abandon her daughter, lover and patients just because she felt bad about the door incident?! That’s just incredibly weak and stupid!
– Kane talking Jaha down was a nice scene, but somewhat surprising. Jaha seemed so dead set on his course that it felt strange for him to be talked out of it. Perhaps because it was Kane, and they have a long history.
– Kane seems cursed to repeatedly gas his people to death for the greater good.
– Is Octavia a good leader? I’m not sure yet. She’s definitely matured. On the other hand, I can’t believe she was willing to throw out all of Skaikru, who are the only ones that can operate the bunker. It’ll be interesting to see how Octavia develops.
– I can’t believe the kids are going back into space. That’s just stretches suspension of belief to breaking point. There’s no way the eight of them can survive for five years on the remnants of the arc. Especially as only two of them have any sort of technical expertise.
– Judging from the promo, I think Clarke is going to be left behind. I don’t envy her, being completely alone on an irradiated world for five years. If everything so far hasn’t driven her insane, then this surely will.

Thoughts
– First of all, I am SO glad that Raven got better! The solution was typically Raven – smart and super gutsy.
– I cheered at this line: “I’d take Raven Reyes over those three hacks (Da Vinci, Einstein and who even cares) any day!” You said it, Sinclair!!
– The Raven/Sinclair relationship in this episode was beautiful and inspiring.
– “You don’t make me want to live and I’m not worth dying for.” This must be the coldest water ever poured on any ship. Ultimately, I’m glad Marper survived.
– Jasper’s demise in Monty’s arms was bittersweet and heartbreaking. Everyone knew it was coming, and I was glad to see Jasper’s last moments with his best friend. It was so fitting that they were watching the moon. Anyone remember Jasper’s story about how he and Monty would watch the moonrise on the arc and play ‘On which planet would you rather?’
– The deaths of the non-survivors-by-choice was kind of pathetic, kind of frustrating and just really sad.
– Octavia’s faith in Bellamy was incredible. Their relationship is one of the best things on this show.
– Did Clarke’s rationale about Skaikru having a greater skillset to manage the technology in the bunker have any merit at all? Was it wise to fill the bunker up with grounders who might not be able to contribute as much to the place as Skaikru people?
– It’s sweet that Clarke still seeks out Niylah whenever she needs comfort. Speaks volumes about what a wonderful person Niylah is.
– So we’re back to making a list. This should be interesting. I’m intrigued and concerned that Octavia didn’t reserve a spot for herself along with Bellamy.
sciencevsmagicParticipantYeah, Jaha can go. He’s been an interesting character, but I don’t mind him departing now.
sciencevsmagicParticipantWhat will happen to this forum once the show ends?
sciencevsmagicParticipantAunt Lydia’s commentary on the normalization of totalitarian violence is incredible, and terrifying — this will soon feel normal to you feels very much a propos, but it should also feel intensely familiar if we take into account the history of the 20th century.
Not so shocking when you consider that animals in the meat and dairy industry are routinely subjected to this kind of abuse. I mean, I know this story isn’t about animal rights, but as mentioned above, it comes down to this.
It’s about treating certain sets of people–women, LGBT, non-Christians, non-Caucasians–as “other.” They are un-people. That’s the driving through-line of Atwood’s novel and what some would say is happening in America every time people in power–President or Congress or the Supreme Court–attempt to otherize citizens
My question is, why stop at humans? It should ultimately come down to recognising that a being, any being, is able to feel pain and letting that guide your treatment of this being, even if you cannot relate to it. So in that sense, I believe that this type of violence is already normalised.
sciencevsmagicParticipant‘DNR’
It’s nice to be posting about The 100 again! A very bleak episode, though a good one.
Thoughts
– Favourite quote: “If anyone can convince mortal enemies to move in together, it’s you.” Yep, that’s our Clarke.
– Most provacative quote: “The survival of the human race is at stake. Participation is not optional.” This got my blood boiling. I wanted to shout “F*** you, Jaha! Stop trying to play God again!”
– Surprisingly, I was on Jasper’s side this time, and I actually liked that storyline. I felt sorry for Monty, but I can understand where the DNR group is coming from. Back in Season 2, I remember Jasper telling Maya “Space sucked.” They don’t talk about it much, but from the few comments here and there, I imagine that living in space was an incredibly restrictive, bleak and clinical sort of life. Some dealt with it better than others, while some, like Jasper, got high. This was a nice call back to that and very much in line with Jasper’s character.
– I found it interesting that a couple of comments (Jaha’s and Monty’s) insinuated that the DNR group should be denied any agency, simply because they were not choosing life. This was some interesting social commentary. Why is the default position to question the mental state of someone who is not willing to live?
– The Bellamy, Harper, Jasper scene was very moving.
– The bunker, Clarke, Azgeda vs Trikru storyline progressed nicely. I’m looking forward to the conclave.
– Octavia made a grand entrance into Polis!
– Raven’s storyline has me worried. She’s not really going to die is she? Not Raven! Also, I can’t imagine how anyone can think that dying alone, in space, is going out in style. It seems soul crushingly lonely to me.
– Did anyone else get hints of a Miller/Jackson romance?!
–So this is the Hunger Games, yeah? Who all is going to fight? Octavia is a shoe-in given her 11th hour arrival.
Yeah, obviously Octavia, although I can’t believe I didn’t think of her until THAT entrance. Also Roan. The million dollar question: will Luna fight? For Trikru?
sciencevsmagicParticipantOh, and belated HB @RG!
sciencevsmagicParticipantI suspect that it is intentional, but only in the sense that it is one long bait. They are intentionally keeping the text as pro-CS and the subtext as anti-CS. Many CS fans aren’t keen to dive into subtext, so favourable text is all they need to be happy. SF, SQ and anti-CS fans generally pay a lot more attention to subtext and meta, because the text isn’t kind to them. So they’re stringing them along with some ambiguous signals, hoping it’ll keep them interested and hopeful enough to continue watching. It’s an old trick that’s been used in queerbaiting since the dawn of time.
It’s highly unlikely however, that the subtext will ever become text. It would be so clever as to be stupid. CS fans have been strung along to a fever pitch, and some factions are highly aggressive. If anything bad happened to their beloved pairing, I seriously believe they’d hunt down the producers with pitchforks.
sciencevsmagicParticipantYeah I’m not bothering with this anymore. I’m going to contact a mod because this is ridiculous. In this thread we shouldn’t have to defend the pairing, or get bombarded with people saying they don’t like CS, Emma, and Hook and the millions of reasons why. I don’t care about what you have to say. I will never see things the way you do. This should be a place for CS shippers to freely post about CS. Not having to deal with haters like you and defend our pairing constantly.
Yes, this is getting ridiculous. First, you say that you want more activity in the CS thread. So @DOD resurrects the CS thread. People start posting. In depth conversations ensue. Then, you get upset about people having different opinions from you. You can’t have it both ways. This thread has been quite lively recently because a number of non-CSers joined in the discussion. If you want this to stop, that’s fine – I personally am happy to leave you and @DOD alone to discuss pancake breakfasts. But @DOD has indicated that he does enjoy in depth discussion. So the two of you may be at cross purposes there. At this point, I think it’d be great if you and @DOD and @Aglepta and the mods decided on some boundaries, because this constant moaning and squabbling is getting tiresome.
sciencevsmagicParticipantThat wedding dress just confirms that the heteronormalisation of Emma Swan is now complete.
