If Bae’s bean took him to Europe, that’s probably where the curse would have taken them, too. But Rumpel would still have to search for Bae because Bae can still move around and stuff in our world.

there is a point where Regina asks mr gold where he found Henry and he grins like he knew. do u remember that?
That happened after Mr Gold had met Emma and remembered and been able to put the pieces together. Before he met Emma and heard her name, he had no idea that Henry was Snow and Charming’s grandson.
That conversation between Regina and Rumpel happened after he remembered, though. The actual baby-adopting happened before.
I personally think that Blue Fairy/Mother Superior kept her memories, kept tabs on Emma, and found out about the baby. Then she put the idea into Regina’s head to adopt a baby, then Regina went to Mr Gold coz Rumple deals the baby trade, then Mr Gold went to Mother Superior, who, as head nun, would likely know of any orphans in need of adoption. Then Mother Superior was the one who arranged for Henry to come to town, but Regina doesn’t know that, which is why she was questioning Mr Gold.
I don’t think Gold would have gone to Mother Superior for anything – remember how much Rumpel hates fairies? That would probably have carried over into Mr Gold, although there’s no way to be sure 😡
Dunno that I buy into August having been part of the plan to bring Henry to town, because I think that once he’d gone to Phuket, (which he did while Emma was pregnant), he stayed there until he got the leg pains 10 years later. I certainly think he was acting as Blue’s messenger boy when it came to his actions in Tallahassee though, so I do think he has a history of working for her. I just don’t think he’d have come back from his Pleasure Island to help her again with baby Henry. Then again, I didn’t think he was the one who’d sent the postcard, (thought it was Blue), even when a bunch of people suggested it, and look how wrong I was with that one. 😛 I love me some August, so won’t complain if they do work him into the storyline more than I’m expecting.
Didn’t August say something to Ruby about going to Nepal, though? If he went and travelled for a bit he might have stopped by America in time for Henry’s birth and adoption. I don’t know – the thought of the Blue Fairy being that manipulative just makes me uncomfortable so I’m probably looking for ways to make her more stereotypically fairy-like 😛
frumpybutsupersmartParticipantNo, that sounds about right 🙂
frumpybutsupersmartParticipantThe library was the place where Maleficent was being kept, right? So that might explain why there is a library, other than the fact that a town without a library would be odd. And I imagine she closed it because stories, as Mary Margaret said, give us hope, and a way to deal with the world, and Regina wanted all the characters not to have that.
frumpybutsupersmartParticipantIt doesn’t help that Rumpel has insanely huge self-esteem issues, which is what made him think Belle had to be working for Regina when she first kissed him.
frumpybutsupersmartParticipantI never thought about that! I always assumed it was because Rumpel had to have a saviour born of true love, so that the “safety valve” he put into the curse (by adding the true love potion to it) would actually work. Then he would be able to leave and find Bae.

I think there is no way of deciding who is worst and honestly I think neither of them is truly redeemable. No matter what they are doing now, let’s not overlook the fact that they spent years hurting people apparently just for giggles.
Rumple manipulated everyone in FTL for ages, including Regina. While he did all this in the search for Baelfire and we are able to feel for him and his lost, a lot of the things he did where far from justified (like imprisoning Belle, or his apparent hobby of trading babies). Of course, he is The Dark One, so he is by nature evil. It really doesn’t look like they are trying to redeem him though, as he still always seems to have an agenda, but this leads me to Regina.
Regina said she wanted to redeem herself and we know she became evil because she lost Daniel and that is where her hatred for Snow White came from. I get that. Yet, she redeeming herself seems like a path for her dodging the consequences of all she’s done. During season 1 flash backs to FTL we see she hurt a lot of people, imprisoning Belle (again! poor girl has spent more time locked up than free.), separating Hansel and Grettel from their father, trapping Jefferson in Wonderland, killing hundreds, possibly thousands (and Graham!). And lets not forget the curse! Why is everybody in STB forgetting all the horrible things she has done? Why does she all of a sudden deserves a clean break just because Henry loves her (er, or something)?
Don’t get me wrong, I love both of these characters. They are nuanced and complicated villains, I just don’t understand why they are still allowed to walk around STB without answering for their past actions. I do realize capturing them would be a tad complicated given they are the most powerful people there and appear to be the only ones with magic, but it just seems like they are treating them as if nothing happened, in the last episode Henry was alone in the same room with Rumple and Regina, why would they allow that?!
That’s the question, isn’t it: punish or forgive? By all of this world’s laws, they should be locked up for the rest of their lives (a considerably long time for Rumpel), but I believe both Regina and Rumpel are legitimately trying to be better people, so I’m leaning more towards the ‘forgive’ side. I’m not saying everything should just be forgotten, but maybe they still have a chance to find some small amount of happiness.
As for your last sentence, I don’t think it was that bad that Henry was alone with Regina and Rumpel. If I had to choose one person in all of Storybrooke who would never, ever hurt Henry, or let him be hurt by someone else, it would be Regina. And Rumpel hasn’t been anything but pleasant to Henry before, no matter his feelings toward Regina. I think Henry brings out the dad in him.

Also, in The Return, when Rumpel was talking to August (who was pretending to be Bae), he said that Bae had “crossed the barriers of time and space”.
Oh, I hadn’t though about that! He did say time. But how could he know what time period Bae went to? All he knew was that he went to a land without magic. But still, what you said makes sense, that could very well be an explanation.
I have no idea how he knew when Bae went to, but maybe he didn’t have to know. Maybe he made the curse to track Bae’s whereabouts – or rather, whenabouts – and he told the curse to take them there. That’s a bit of a stretch, but it’s the only plot hole cover I can think of right now :/ …
