What was the doctor’s last name…
His last name is Stevenson, and the end of the episode showed that he hasn’t completely given over to his violent nature, so I think he’s meant to represent Jekyll and Hyde. I wonder if we’ll see characters with other classic SF/fantasy/horror authors’ names (Verne, Shelley, Stoker, Lovecraft) acting out their stories.

Gideon might think of his goal as noble and self-sacrificing. Saviors don’t just die, they suffer, and Gideon could be telling himself (perhaps honestly, perhaps as justification) that by killing Emma quickly he’d be sparing her from prolonged suffering.

Hmmm… If he stayed young by stealing magic from powerful magic users…

But the Quill itself if magical (and apparently contains a soul) and needs a special and specific person to wield it. The tree that turns into the wardrobe is magic but neither August nor the chisel are magical like Henry and the Quill. Even if August super believes in himself that still doesn’t change the fact that the chisel is just a chisel.
August retained aspects of his magical tree nature while in human form in the real world. That could give him a special affinity for that sort of work. He might know what the wood wants to become; I think this sounds like something he’d say.
August could be a descendant of Merlin, what with 1,000 years of pollen getting around.

The Author’s quill works like that: draw it quickly across blank paper while holding a picture of the finished work clear in your mind, and text appears on the paper.

I’m hoping, from the doctor’s last name, that they’re planning to incorporate other elements of early science fiction into the show.

It’s practically a crime when directed against a woman, but it’s okay, even funny, when directed against a man? Especially when a beautiful woman such as Emma is making the comments?
I guess wish realm Hook deserved the fat-shaming because of his pride and his lifestyle.

GaultheriaParticipantIf it’s a two-parter, I’m hoping for “No Fate” followed by “But What We Make”.

GaultheriaParticipantAlthough, perhaps the singing itself is an unintended side effect.
Like the Xena episode “The Quill is Mightier…”, where the author’s words become real extremely literally.
