I’m surprised the sword wasn’t wiggly, to go along with the robe. I took that vision to be Emma struggling against her own dark nature, which is kind of a stale old story now, but since that’s the theme of this season, and they’re talking about saviors who can never, ever let themselves slip up even once, Emma has a metaphor for that.

I get what you mean. Since there’s no third person omniscient point of view, there’s no way to provide reliable backstory, and so characters get used inconsistently as infodump stand-ins.

Cassandra’s phoenix must represent the hellfire room, like enchanted sleep brings about renewal by burning away delusions or something.
I’m onboard with the “sometimes villains lie” revelation. It’s true to life.
The steampunk visuals are taking me back to The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne.

GaultheriaParticipantYoud think someone as presumably powerful as him would have made the necessary enchantments to not have his heart be able to be taken.
Regina did it to Henry. Why is this not like standard magical protection?
In some mythologies dragons do something like that, keeping their hearts outside of their bodies. If this dragon is as sneaky as he ought to be, he wouldn’t put up defenses that an enemy might, with time, be able to batter down. He’d let his enemy steal a decoy.

September 16, 2016 at 7:06 pm in reply to: TV Guide 9/14 – Mega Buzz: What "Big Secret" Is Emma Keeping from Hook? #327252GaultheriaParticipantAs messed up as this family tree is, I can’t see them doing this. Not even these writers. lol. It would not only make Hook Charming’s father, but also Emma’s Grandfather, Baby Neal’s Grandfather, and Henry’s Great Grandfather. I also suspect the network would quickly shut down this idea, due to the incestuous nature of it.
Yeah, I don’t see it happening for real, but characters jump to wrong conclusions (where they stay and fume), and I think the worry would make for good entertainment. I’d say OUAT works better as “Friends” than as “Game of Thrones”, and I like when the show pokes fun at itself (eg, “I almost married a monster from Oz” and “I almost married a minion of my evil grandfather, Peter Pan”). With complicated family relationships and characters who never, ever sit down to talk and clear up misunderstandings, there’s plenty of fuel left.

With a Dark One baby.
Yeah, I think the secret needs to be tied to something like that, already part of the show’s history. More impact that way than if it’s part of a bookended season 6.
I wonder if Emma learns something about Hook’s past that he doesn’t know himself. Maybe he had a fling with a peasant girl named Ruth some 60 years ago, and…

GaultheriaParticipantWe’ve been wondering about Charming’s dad, and now Charming and Emma are displaying a family resemblance to Captain Morgan.

‘Fraid not. He’s been cast, but not for this fall. Grimm doesn’t return until January.
