Ha, why not? I’m assuming you’re thinking of the Disneyfeyed version — I can’t imagine Monsieur Hugo’s original sensibilities would fly here, unless OUAT suddenly morphed into an HBO show.

Yeah, I think we need to stick with the Disney versions of that and of Hercules’ origin story.

Anyway, in the spirit of OUAT’s conflation of characters, who is going to be Quasimodo, Rumple or Gaston?

Gaston’s narcissism seems like the kind of thing that would draw ironic punishment (or cure, depending on how you look at it) from the gods. Maybe he didn’t come back quite right from his time as a flower.

This would, of course, be a lovely opportunity for the show to reflect on the “handsome hero” trope in the first place.

I think A&E would like to end the show, but ABC continues to renew it. And I think they are simply running out of material.

That’d be a stressful situation to be in, where both options (leaving and staying) reduce their future marketability.

I know you meant “reappear”, but I read it as “reaper”, and I thought “Cool!”. She’s already wearing the robe and a skull-like mask, and I can imagine her ironic fate as being made to face death again and again and again.

But for them to say “we don’t create ships” is point blank wrong. Ships = relationships.

I think “relationships” is a neutral term. “Ships”, though, are like “morals”. If a person likes one, then it’s right and good and unquestionably the way things ought to be, as far as the believer is concerned. It can’t be allowed to change, because it’s already perfect. From the point of view of someone who doesn’t favour a particular ship, it seems like fanaticism.

Relationships reside in RAM. Ships are in ROM.

Meaning, the show is so far gone from its original premises (to which Neal was integral) that a) re-integrating him into the present story would involve some serious hooplas, and b) the relationships and characters to whom Neal was structurally integral have been completely rewritten to erase those points of connection that made Neal essential.

I agree. “Neal” wasn’t just the character, he was a node in a network that was more than the sum of its parts, and that network isn’t there anymore.

I think Neal fans and Neal are like Regina and Daniel, where the best thing for the survivors to do is to let the departed go.

I wondered if that’s where you were going. I put absolutely nothing past A and E at this point, but I think if CS has sealed the deal, the show would be a bit more open about it (in a “family friendly” sort of way).

I’ve been wondering, “if the show is too far gone to see a return to form, what could they do to make it as awful as possible?”.

Joking aside, though, I do think the series finale (whenever it happens) will involve another child for Emma, because that would bookend the series’ beginning, and because the show has that tradition of Mothers’ Day plots.
