Heart of DarknessParticipant
Nothing about this makes any sense whatsoever. Not from a storytelling standpoint, not based on the supposed rules and everything relating to DOs, not in any way. Absolutely the worst twist they could’ve possibly pulled. The show just did a backflip over a dozen sharks.
Everything Rumple-related that has happened this season was just thrown out the window and we’re back to square 1. Or square -1. It’s the “Rumple deceives Belle” plot from S4A again. We’ve even got Emma to stand in for Hook and blackmail Rumple by threatening to tell Belle. Of course, no one actually cares about Belle so they’re gonna keep quiet now that they have what they want. Oh and they all went to the Underworld anyway so that’s problem solved, we get to have another half a season at the very least of Rumple getting to be with Belle despite secrectly being complete scum who betrayed them all for the millionth time.
The Holy Grail/Excalibur sure is great at deciding who’s worthy to wield the power. Current track record (apart from Merlin): Nimue, the source of all dark magic and original Dark One; Arthur, murderous maniacal king who used magic to “fix” his wife and keep her under his control; and Rumplestiltskin, who, despite losing all the darkness in heart and supposedly becoming a hero, instead chose power over anything else yet again, betraying all the good guys and rendering all the attempts to destroy the darkness worthless. Gift from the gods indeed.

Hook sparkly? Emma’s non sparkly because she resisted; and the one time she gave in and used some of that dark magic (when she saved Robin), her skin actually turned. Nimue’s skin turned instantly, and Rumple’s transformation began right away, though taking it a bit longer to go full sparkle-happy. But Hook has totally given into the Darkness and yet he remains un-glittery. The only that changed was some heavier eyeliner and an “emo fringe” ‘do
DOs aren’t sparkly when they’re cursed in Storybrooke, but you’re right in that Hook should’ve got the makeup back in the EF. Guess they forgot. Just like they seemed to forget that Emma scene.
And now Nimue seems to keep the makeup in SB, but then again she wasn’t affected by the dark curse.

A and E insist that is a law of magic that can’t be broken and no matter how hand wavey and Magical McGuffin-y, they’ve maintained that they are sticking with that.
Well, except with the water from the Well of Wonders.
Heart of DarknessParticipantWhat’s in the box? A heart for the Dark Curse?
Heart of DarknessParticipantReasons! Plot! Or maybe because Hero! Rumple will win and snuff (twitch) out the darkness which has been Emma’s endgame all along. They basically gave it away this past week when she said something about using all that power for good.
I thought the point of that dialog was that the darkness won’t be destroyed in the end, but rather someone will be worthy enough to wield the power without turning evil and use it to protect people.
It’s Merlin who seems to want to go with the easy solution of just destroying it altogether so they’ll “never have to ask that much of anyone”.
Heart of DarknessParticipantHow did she even know how to do that…?
I guess because magic is emotion? She felt like wanting to rip out and crush out Vortigan’s heart, so it just happened like that? Also, it seems like Dark Ones don’t need intense training in order to perform magic like say Regina did, but rather just inherit the knowledge instinctively. The same would apply to Merlin, if that’s the case.
Yeah, Merlin just randomly created a forest without effort immediately after gaining his powers.
Heart of DarknessParticipantOh gosh, the hat. Yes, we’ve never gotten a proper explanation for the hat/dagger connection.
I think it was just that the cleaving ritual needed a ton of magic, and the hat was needed to collect it all.
As for why the hat was made… Perhaps Merlin intended to use it to remove the dark magic from Nimue’s heart like was done with Rumple. Problem is that unlike Excalibur, the hat can’t actually destroy the darkness nor even store it, so it’ll go around causing havoc unless tethered to a human again.
Heart of DarknessParticipantHow did they know the magic or spell you have to use to “tether” someone?
“One of Merlin cookbooks” according to Zelena. We know Arthur has had plenty of time to study them up in that tower, and it was his idea so it makes sense.
I guess this explains why Emma needs Zelena’s help in Storybrooke. Maybe the “Merlin’s magic” Zelena wielded (“and lived to tell about it”) was the tethering spell rather than the Wand.
Did it only work on Merlin because it was really HIS sword or could they have tethered someone else to the sword? Can you “untether” someone from the sword or do they have to die and someone has to replace them as the “tethered” like with the dagger?
I think it would make more sense if only the ones with the grail’s power could be tethered to it, but I’m no sure.
We know the DO can cleave themselves from the dagger using the sorcerer’s hat.

Especially in this show, you have so many different characters, everyone has their own drive. What is good and evil? The show makes us think about it. Is anyone all good or all evil? What makes you who you are is your choices. I consider Merlin a hero, however, it depends on the telling. It’s never simple. Look at King Arthur.”
Sounds like there is a chance Merlin….might not be light? I mean, Elliot kind of hopped around that one. If Merlin were a straight up hero, he’d say so. I think this means theres some darkness in the sorcerer.
Maybe he’ll try to destroy Emma or something when the plan of reforging Excalibur fails in Camelot.
November 9, 2015 at 11:15 am in reply to: 5×07 “Nimue” FAVORITE & LEAST FAVORITE MOMENTS and DIALOGUE #312030Heart of DarknessParticipant–Why did Nimue turn green so fast?
Because she is the First. So that makes her Uber-Dark One, not just regular dark one. I am curious as to why Emma is more pale and not green actually. In the Comic con promo they put some glitter on her skin but in show shes just a little bit paler than usual. Hmm. I would like to see have turned green if only for a brief while anyway.
Well, DO skin condition doesn’t carry over to Storybrooke. We did see her hand start turning scaly when she used magic to heal Robin, so it’s possible we’ll still see her in full DO makeup once she goes completely dark in Camelot.
Anyway, probably the most nonsensical thing about this episode was Merlin’s “I can’t stop Vortigan cause killing would turn me dark”. There’s probably A MILLION other ways he could stop him, why are the only options to kill or do nothing?
