He didn’t after Robert left Rumple threw the hair on the ground and said something like small items can mean big things in that sarcastic tone of voice. He was just putting on a show because he saw himself in Robert. It was one of the best Rumple moments in a very long time. I miss that aspect of Rumple where he does not want anyone to see his vulnerable side but yet the audience gets to see that under the beast their is a grieving father.
I’m curious about what exactly he had said during that scene. It sounded like he was saying that someday he will be lucky enough to be reunited with his sons (plural)…but I wasn’t 100% sure because I would think he’d be talking about only one son. I didn’t have captions on, so I couldn’t confirm one way or the other. I know they like to throw hints and shocks in at moments like that, so it wouldn’t be out of the ordinary for him to have said sons.

heatherParticipantI am almost certain that Hook was the dark one Merlin had been referring to. Though nice job on the part of the writers using his phrasing to make us think that it was Emma before this big reveal. I’m not sure Merlin is dead. He may have been cursed again. I have a feeling their reason for visiting the underworld later may be to find Nimue as Merlin had instructed. Also, along the same lines as the idea that Hook was the dark one after Merlin, I have a feeling that even though after saving Hook Emma turned full on dark one, she still has a lot of the good in her. Merlin I think had referred to maybe someday someone being strong enough to be able to handle the darkness while still being good. Kind of wonder if that was foreshadowing this.
heatherParticipantSome were asking in chat: The song is Only You, by Yazoo.
When I first saw this reply I had thought the band’s name was an error. I have had this song for years now, but the artist name I have for it is Yaz, not Yazoo. I was curious about this, so I looked it up and they are in fact known as Yaz in North America (due to copyright reasons) and Yazoo everywhere else.
Also, to answer someone else’s question about when the song is from, it was released in 1982, but has actually been used quite a bit in more contemporary things. It is the song at the end of the film Can’t Hardly Wait when they are at the train station. It was also used in the final season of the TV show Fringe when one of the main characters listens to the stereo in an abandoned car.
heatherParticipantDoes anyone remember what year it was that he talked to Emma in the movie theatre? I know that in tonight’s episode they made mention that he told them his prophecy in Camelot about a decade before. Given Emma’s current age, Merlin had to have visited her more than a decade ago therefore well before his current tree-state. And then he couldn’t have been in the tree for more than ten years because he wouldn’t be able to tell Arthur the prophecy while in the tree.
heatherParticipantI was actually kind of relieved when they showed the follow up in Arendelle. A part of me was thinking “oh no what if that portal back wasn’t really going there afterall.” Rumpelstiltskin kept referring to Anna like she was a thorn in his side and he was being particularly evil so I really would not have been shocked if he had disguised it as a door back to their land and it turned out to be a trap of some sort. Glad that wasn’t the case.
heatherParticipantAgree about the name Miranda possibly being a Tempest related reference. That isn’t to say it’ll be about The Tempest storyline nor that the character’s name will even be Miranda. But, given the name association I really think that’s a clue about it being ocean/island related. And how convenient that one of the main villains this season has a history in Disney film of stealing a singing voice. Yes, Ariel lost her ability to speak on OUAT, but she didn’t sing AND that wasn’t even the real Ursula. Perhaps this will be a lot closer to the traditional story….
heatherParticipantOooor perhaps because there was so much love involved in the original use of the ribbons she may be able to do something with them so that the wearers will be immune to the curse from the mirror.
heatherParticipantNow that the next episode has aired I’m going to just say what I’m thinking about Helga.
She really doesn’t look all that much like Emma. At least not to the point where I’d be like “wow Emma she looks JUST like you.” But maybe the fault in that lies with the family tree artist of Arendelle.
Though if they REALLY wanted her to look like Emma they could have always cast Ginnifer Goodwin with a blonde wig. Oh, wait…. 🙂
heatherParticipantI wonder if the ribbons are one of the ingredients she needs in the magic to make Elsa and Emma “become” her two deceased sisters. Like they’re objects they had owned back then so it can connect the two sisters of the past with the two there presently. I get the feeling for some reason that she’s going to do some sort of spell that will somehow make them think they are actually Helga and Gerda or at least actually her sisters.
