ParticipantThe real happy endings are lost, now they are bitter happy endings.
Yes, but the writers are trying to spin it as “happy endings aren’t always what you expect.” That line from 3×11 from the flashbacks of Snow and Charming was when the writers decided to hit the reset button in an attempt to write Neal out for the sake of Hook wooing Emma. I just want to cry with how the writers have botched up the original message of hope that good can win and that the mark of true love is sacrifice (which Neal demonstrated his entire life).
And this is where they’re losing fans…you don’t tell one story for 2.5 years and then suddenly do a 180 and start spouting off different stuff that goes against everything you set up for all that time. They’ve become more concerned with showing too much PLOT and fan pandering for ships than they are about their original vision and that may be the saddest thing of all for those of us who’ve watched the show since the pilot and loved the overall theme of hope. They killed that in S3B and I really don’t think they can get that back anymore. 🙁
BTW-I did something today that I never thought I would do…I took my OUAT fandom out of my Twitter bio. It actually hurt my heart to do that this morning because it’s something I never thought I would do. I believed that this show was different from the others out there that are so dark and dreary, but it turns out that it’s not all that different after all. 😥

ParticipantHe really is one of the most psychologically realistic characters the show has produced….and tossing aside his story like they did offends me to my core.
Firstly, I’m so sorry about the loss of your father, I can’t imagine how hard that must be to deal with. I think a lot of people identify with Neal on a very real level. Yeah he’s hopped realms and his life has involved being around magic, but at the core of it all, his struggle is that of a regular guy with family problems, who has just tried to do the right thing by others, and life kept kicking him down, but he kept his good heart despite all of his trials. And when we see a character we identify with basically being told, “Nope, no hope for you, doesn’t matter about your good heart, your reward is a contrived death and then to be swiftly forgotten about, because you and your strength and struggle don’t matter,” people who identify with him take THAT to heart as well. It’s not just people feeling like Neal Cassidy the fictional character has been tossed aside, it’s people feeling like they’re worthy of nothing more than being tossed aside as well. I really believe that that’s a major contributing factor to the outrage over this turn that the story has taken. And if that’s a message that A&E believe in to the point where they thought it would be a valuable story to portray on their show, then is it any wonder that people who feel offended by it are now pissed off at them?
Preach to all of this @Phee and I totally agree with you. People found hope in Neal’s story; that someday this lost boy would find a way home to his father, to the woman he obviously never stopped loving, and to his own boy and when that didn’t happen, it hit a nerve for a lot of people and the additional fact that Adam has made light of it so much on Twitter has really turned people off. I honestly don’t think they get why people were so upset and that turns me off their show too. They created characters that we can relate to and get emotionally attached to and then they don’t understand why we get upset when bad things happen, when they act totally OOC, or when they randomly kill them off for no reason. That just tells me that the show runners aren’t really paying as much attention to their entire fanbase as they claim they do nor do they care to pay attention to them and that REALLY burns me up. As a fan I take personal offense that they don’t give a crap about how I feel and that they still don’t truly understood what they did to us and to the GA a few weeks ago. If the ratings keep going down (and I personally think they will), maybe that will wake them up to what they’ve done this season. 🙁
/end rant
