I think JMo is very self aware of the fact that SF was supposed to be Emma’s endgame; even if she sometimes comes across as being totally okay with CS. I think JMo gets very inside her character and so it’s hard to not emote more when she’s with MJR, the guy she knew was going to be her characters true love. I also think there’s a huge difference between how the actors understand their characters and display that understanding vs how the writers understand the characters and write those characters. So, yes. JMo is a much better actor with MRJ and when it’s an emotional SF scene vs with Colin and it’s an emotional CS scene.
I agree completely. I definitely think Jennifer is completely aware that Swanfire is the real relationship on this show and that Hook is the afterthought. She has said she knew that Bae was Henry’s father since before the pilot was filmed. That is always how she played the relationships and while the writers may think that Emma and Hook is the same as Emma and Neal that is not even remotely how Jennifer views it. Jennifer has her head canon and how she views Emma and that view is informed greatly by Emma being in love with Neal for years, being angry, but still in love with him, not having a serious relationship since Neal for all those years, because she still thought about Neal. She still cares about him, she still wants to be with him, nothing about that changed during the ten years they were apart and it hasn’t changed now that Neal has died.

It is possible he died after though because remember he was marked at one point and the boatman tried to come for him, but everyone was able to stop it. Maybe it was just delayed. He has always been the one most likely to die, followed by Rumpel because his lack of purpose on the show now that Neal is dead.
I don’t think they would lose viewers if they brought Neal back. I think they would regain a lot. I just think at this point they are all in on their nonsense with Hook, so at this point they are not going to switch back to their original vision. At least you can tell when people bring it all up that Adam knows they made a mistake. He will think about this mistake for the rest of his life and it will bother him. I am fine with that.
Feel free to skip over this comment, since I know most people will say that this was the last time we’ll ever see Neal again; however, I’m no so certain. Many people also said we’d never see Neal again after 3×22, but then we saw him in 5×12. There are a couple of reasons why I’m speculating about the idea that this might not be the final time we’ll ever see Neal. The biggest reason is because Neal and Henry still haven’t gotten closure. I’m not saying they necessarily ever will, but 5×12 was the perfect time for Henry to see his dad again, but that didn’t happen. Also, it seems like Emma is just as in love with Neal as ever as much as he is with her. Just saying. The other thing is that the Neal-Emma scene in 5×12 just emphasized the contrast between their love that the selfish kind of “love” that Hook and Emma have. Maybe I’m just seeing things through shipper-glasses, but whenever we have a scene with Neal, it always seems intentional how unselfish and kind his love is in contrast to Emma/Hook’s unhealthy kind of selfish love that imperils them and everyone else. Neal still is looking out for Emma, because he loves her and always will. Neal only ever wished for Emma to be happy, even if it was without him. That is the purest kind of love there is. As many people have said, it seems like JMO and Neal especially play their characters that way, with the knowledge that their characters have true love. That is why the emotions and the acting choices seem so authentic and stand in stark contrast with the wooden way Emma quoted her father’s line of saying she’d always find Hook. It seems like Emma has really latched onto the idea of wanting the same kind of death-defying true love that her parents have. Yet, I think we know that the heart-splitting plan is doomed to fail, because Emma and Hook don’t share true love. To quote Neal, “Trust me on this. This won’t end the way you think it will.”
I agree that the way Emma and Neal is played is so good and honest and unselfish compared with her and Hook that it is just ridiculous to consider them both true love. The problem being that most of the relationships on this show are really bad relationships, so i am just not sure how much meaning when can give it. Obviously, the only reason Emma is with Hook is because Neal is dead, but i don’t think the writers get that. I don’t think they see any behavior as different. They don’t get how problematic the relationship between Emma and Hook has been written or they just don’t care.
Well, even if it happened before. They showed Alice and her guy after with a like five year old kid, so i think Will and the Ana lived happily ever after too.
That is what happens when the writers have one plan and then just throw it away. You have an actor you contracted as a regular that you then don’t use. They should have tried to put the frozen plot and the original plot together.
The Swanfire scene was the best scene in the episode. They didn’t do any move on to Hook crap. Emma said she would have come for Neal if she could have. Neal said he loved her still. Emma looked at his lips. It was good. The two of them have more chemistry then anyone. It was a good scene.
I hope that she actually stays Snow White after this. I am sick of how silly Snow is and pretty much not a character anymore.
