ParticipantI thought that Emma and Hook were spelled to look like other people in Snow Drifts? I don’t think they looked like themselves.

ParticipantI still can’t imagine them actually killing Rumpel. These writers are terrible so it is possible, but at this point just write them out. Send Rumpel and Belle and Gideon off to wherever. Clearly, Rumpel is playing some game with the Black Fairy in this episode to try to protect everyone, so just let him do his part and then go.

ParticipantWhy are they now randomly trying to pretend that Granny’s is the heart of Storybrooke? Since when?
Also, from the little bit i have heard of the singing, it doesn’t sounds good. Also, they have been auto tuned. It isn’t as if they are on key.

ParticipantI thought the Black Fairy had a pretty disappointing back story. There were a lot of inconsistencies and they did nothing with Blue. Again. It pretty much was just a lot of convoluted mess that made no sense.

ParticipantThere is just no way there is more to this show then what it is, in my opinion. I find all of you guys thoughts about the show to be really interesting. I just think there is no evidence that they are hinting that they mean for this to be a cautionary tale except for the fact that the way the relationship is being written is unhealthy.
I just think if it was meant to be thought of as a bad relationship they would have a friend that was the voice of reason, or her parents would be extremely vocally against it, or her son would be having screaming matches with the guy. Obviously, they have had those things happen in small ways. Snow, Charming, Henry, and Regina have all had issues with Hook. Snow doesn’t even seem to care who Emma is dating as long as she gets to see her dressed up for dates and plan a wedding. Henry said very recently that he doesn’t consider Hook family and is pretty much just tolerating him. Charming said he just wants Emma to be happy.
The thing is that this show is falling into all of the obvious bad tropes of a unhealthy relationship, but without the pointers to this is unhealthy that would have to be there if they were doing some sort of bait and switch at the last moment. I think they are just bad writers who are so out of touch with reality that they still think these obvious unhealthy tropes like lying and jealousy and codependency are normal parts of a relationship. They, also, think that the only way to cause drama is for those sort of things to be happening. Like how they treat Rumpel and Belle.
Also, we have seen Eddy in interviews. There is nothing there. There is no depth of thought going on inside of that man. Adam has it a little bit, but he is not the one in control here. He just gets upset and trolls because people don’t “get” what he is writing and that is because he knows in some small capacity that it isn’t right. There is just nothing he can do about it. I think the reason Adam is so hostile on twitter now is because of how upset he is about what is going on with the show.
At this point, it is about money and keeping their job, in my opinion.

ParticipantYou forgot one, and it’s arguably the one A and E would use to show that they can bring in new characters to help transition a show and sell a show (for better or for ill)… Hook.
Channing Dungey, the current ABC President, even mentioned in an interview back in 2013 that she thought the introduction of Hook in Season 2 helped the show:
Some series will bring in new characters, or even more dramatically, hire new showrunners, in a bid to avoid the sophomore slump. Dungey says Once Upon a Time benefitted after Captain Hook was added as a character in Season 2. “You are hoping the promise of the show you saw in Season 1 will really blossom in Season 2,” she says. “It’s trial and error. Sometimes it takes several weeks for a character to grow into who they’re going to become. You can’t get too caught up in those immediate actions.”

Wow, well the president of ABC is incorrect. I think people were interested in Season 2 because they wanted to see what happened after the curse broke. See Emma interact with her parents once they had their memories and she believed. I think people wanted to see what happened with Regina now that everyone knew. I think people wanted to finally meet Henry’s father. I think people wanted to see Rumpel try to find his son. I think people wanted to see what happened to the characters they met in Season 1. I think that people were all on with Season 2 because they liked Season 1.
Season 2 had major problems, mostly to do with Regina, but Hook was barely a blip in that season. You can tell though that ABC still thinks that stuff even though they are incorrect. That is why they keep promoting things like the wedding. They think that is going to help the show when it is not. It is way too late for that.

ParticipantYeah, but this show has never successfully transitioned in a new character. All the characters that came on later in the show are disliked and are not written for. I can’t imagine them being able to successfully integrate a likeable character at this point. Their characters have all become some unlikable.
Main characters, billed as starring, that were brought in after the Pilot have been August, Belle, Red, Neal, Will Scarlet, Robin, and Zelena. I would agree that Will and Robin especially weren’t written very well and perhaps only gained minimal fans, but August, Neal, Belle, Zelena and even Red have all had sizable fan bases. I think it’s at least possible to bring in a few new characters and write them well who could gain fans. The key will be for A and E not to bite off more than they can chew with too many new characters and plot lines per usual.
I am not talking about since the pilot. I just meant from Season 1. All the characters who were regulars were in Season 1 except for Zelena, Robin, Will, and Hook and none of them have successfully been integrated into the series. They are all either disliked greatly by the majority of the audience or considered boring and a general waste of time. They have never really been written for successfully.
I am not saying the writers might not try, but i think they are going to fail. I think the writers got help with the characters in Season 1, before the show started, and so those characters that were introduced back then have stronger core personalities and have better backstories. That gave them something to build on from then on and they have never successfully added a character since then.
There have been new regulars, and characters from Season 1 have become regulars and then not, but no new regulars have been successful, in my opinion. They are all decisive characters and generally boring and unlikable characters.

ParticipantRemember when Snow was “mayor” for like a day and the dwarfs all treated her really badly. Grumpy has never recovered for me as a character from that moment.

ParticipantThey were definitely going for the new modern day fairytale characters in Emma, Neal, and Henry. Everything about the structure of the arc begins that way and builds that way. We see all the broken families left behind by the feud between the families and by the curse and that Emma and Neal with Henry were supposed to be the tie that brings that all back together and heals those wounds. That is all gone now and now it is just random whatever happening until the show finally ends.
