Honestly, I wouldn’t have been surprised if Regina had wanted to make Emma her daughter in SB, but of course then there would have been no show. Although, this leads to a rather hilarious situation where Regina would have to take care of a newborn for the entire 28 years without having the benefit of being curse-brained. 😆 Emma’s dirty diaper revenge.
[adrotate group="5"]icebladeParticipantThe “local boy” thing could simply be based on a lie by Pinocchio or an assumption made by the article writer, which is rather common.
icebladeParticipantSomething not yet considered (at least here). BF is stated as being the original power, which is may be more legend than fact. This would seems to imply she is the original power for good and evil magic, what if she removed the evil magic into another entity – the Dark One. Such a entity that could be more easily controlled by greed and ambition of the Dark One and other humans keeping such a power in-check with perhaps some Fairy assistance.
Someone brought up that it seems strange for the Dark One’s magic to just disappear without going somewhere…. what if the result of a true love kiss is the Dark power returning to BF, which could potentially have dire results. In this situation, getting rid of Dark One by sending it to a magicless world, effectively imprisoning it, was the only way to rid FTL from the Dark One’s magic.
icebladeParticipantJust rewatched all of the episodes currently at the ABC site. Dang, I don’t know how I managed to wait a week between episodes…. now several months of a wait.
Pity the DVD/BD won’t come out until the show has practically returned anyway. Definitely will be a good B-Day present, though. I’ll probably OD on Once during the week or so before the show returns. 😀
icebladeParticipantWell it is rather unusual for a young son to kiss his dad even on the forehead (ie not something that would readily occur to the writers as a possible solution for the Dark One Curse). There is also the possibility that Rumbel made the deal with his son believing that there was no other way to break the dark one curse in existence. As a result, the magic would have to be stripped from him, which didn’t possible without killing him.
In addition, maybe he didn’t truly love his son in an unselfish way. It might have been more of a possessive form of love ala Regina’s love for Henry. With Belle, it came about naturally and existed without thought. So if Rumbel falls back into his old possessive and selfish form of love, it might prevent a Belle kiss from working.
I don’t think this will be the case, though, because we can see that Rumbel has grown as a character sense he lost Belle. He was perfectly willing to give up his powers for Bae, which I think means that he wouldn’t have gone through with bringing magic to SB even if it resulted in everyone being unable to return to FTL. I wonder if the bringing of magic will return the evil of the dark one to Rumpel resulting in a regression of sorts.
Well, in any case, the final scene seems to tell us one thing: Rumpel is still a coward since the primary reason he gives for bringing Magic into the world is give himself power. Doesn’t matter that there are other and better reasons for bringing magic: protecting himself and Belle, finding Bae, maybe opening up the possibility of returning the characters back to FTL, taking down Regina (admittedly, this one wasn’t necessary before the addition of magic). I think we are going to see a three faction war here with Belle trying to keep Rumbel working with rather than against Team Snow.
Just a side note: Isn’t this so Middle Ages, all of FTL is torn apart with dashed Happy Endings all because of fighting within the “Royal” family. Seriously the main fighting characters in this (James and Snow’s family’s) are technically related in a family tree more akin to a Soap Opera. 😆 Ah but we love it so.
PS @Darcyfarrow Oh boy, what is if the BF loosely planned this whole thing. 😆 I doubt it, but she does seem to be the manipulative type. And let’s face it, SW and PC wouldn’t have succeeded in getting together without Rumpel. Then again, the SW story would be drastically different from the very beginning without Rumpel. Dang, I think I just blew my own mind with that thought.
icebladeParticipantRegarding the Narrator intro:
I think it was more artistic license, but it is true in essence (at least initially). Just to go through each of the characters listed.
Regina knows because she remembers.
Henry doesn’t know, he just believes. He probably knows something really bizarre is going on in the town, but latches onto the fairytale book-based explanation due to its striking similarities. It just happened that the fairytale explanation was the correct one.
Gold, as has been mentioned in off-screen interviews, didn’t know until he heard Emma’s name in Emma’s presence.
August knew, but he never went to storybrooke (presumably) at any point earlier than we saw.
Jefferson knew and was technically in Storybrooke, but he was unable to leave his house (apparently) until sometime after Emma’s arrival. As a result, he had no ability to change anything.
Admittedly, they do make it rather ambiguous in the show, but maybe the producers or the suits later decided to throw viewers a bone by basically giving it away that Regina knew who she was. It still didn’t stop people from wanting to believe that she didn’t remember her past either.
