I think Henry’s main storyline should be trying to bridge the magical world with the regular. I know A and E think that all storytelling must be BIG and MYTHIC with some BIG BAD but….I go weary of that (especially when it really doesn’t live up to expectations). Henry should be struggling with school because he’s interested in learning magic. Henry should be making friends but trying to keep them at a distance cause he knows that people “go away” inexplicably. Henry should be in mourning for his father and struggling with his identity now that he’s lost a parent. (side note: but I swear to heaven…if they make Henry A-OK in S4 with Neal being dead, barely showing any effects of having lost his father. I swear to….I will TEAR through this forum like a mad person) I’d love for him to hang out (and for us to see him hanging out) with Red or Belle or the Dwarves. Show that the whole town loves Henry, not just his family.

    Agree agree agree!

Especially about the Neal part.  Granted when you look at the literal storyline (which, I try not to do most of the time – fewer headaches) they only got to know each other for a short time, their relationship should not be cast aside.  Personally, I’d love it if all of the people that had been in Nealfire’s life to help Henry learn about and understand his father – they have a number of characters that Nealfire affected in major ways, so it would be an excellent opportunity for a nice little Henry arc.

I think Henry will learn magic at some point – but it makes sense to get Emma to a place where she’s comfortable, and Regina realizing she can use light magic before they start with Henry.  That way he’s got 2 role models steering him in the right direction.

I read another article similar to this (forget where) but basically pointed out Disney is going to unabashedly milk the success of Frozen for as long as they can.  So…not shocking that Frozen’s already on OUAT (and completely unbelievable that A&E had to really push to get the rights…suuuure)

I feel that Henry’s actions to date have been pretty typical of a boy in his position, if you will…actually, in some ways, a little mature.  Think about how screwed up the world he grew up in – and I am going to be clear in blaming NO FAULT on anyone for that…I’m just saying that growing up in a magical town that’s not supposed to be magical with people playing pretend who don’t realize they’re playing pretend, who are actually fairy tale characters he grew up with…it’s really enough to make anyone’s head spin.  In S1, I felt he was very typical of an 11 year old boy – still believing in magic, still believing that good will prevail, and like RG said, have very black and white definitions of good and evil.

S2 & 3A, for me, shows Henry struggling to bridge the gap between child and teenager.  Every kid is going to become disillusioned with their world at 12-13, because that’s when you realize so much that you believed in (Santa, Tooth Fairy, Easter bunny, magic) isn’t real – and you’re pretty much been lied to by the people you love and trust the most your entire life, and are faced with the harsh reality that nothing is black and/or white.  So what does he do?  He flip flops like crazy.  He manipulates to get his way.  He pits one parent against the other.  He favors the parent that just came into his life…all extremely typical pre-teen behavior with some dynamite and magic tossed in.

Then Henry and Emma have their “normal” year.  I’m guessing Henry’s supposed to be about 13ish now.  Henry’s no longer a little boy!  His height and voice alone are proof of that!  🙂  I forget who suggested it, but I love the idea that Regina gave Emma and Henry her memories from raising Henry.  What we see in 3B is a pretty well adjusted, typical teenage boy.  He’s questioning…when he’s not engrossed in his video games.  He’s defiant…but still steps down when Emma tells him he ain’t running the show.  He’s accepting…things may not be black and white, but shades of grey are ok…until you get ridiculously freaked out by all the ‘adults” weird behavior and try to steal Mom’s car (and really, by that point, who’d blame him?)

I think we’re going to see Henry continue to become a pretty mature teenager…I hope we get to see a bit of defiant Henry – arguing with Emma and Regina over typical teenage things.  And growing pains – Henry’s first girlfriend (or heck – just get the kid a friend his age!!  And stop getting him babysitters – he’s a lil old for that now!).  But when they showed Henry as understanding before Emma that ‘home’ means ‘family’ and he wants to have both in his life, we see Henry as a pretty grown up kid.  So I can see them using Henry as sort of the moral compass amidst the chaos.  Maybe showing maturity when the adults start acting like lunatics (like they all tend to do).

I hope, as far as family, that he bridges any gap that the whole Regina/Robin/Marian debacle causes between Emma and Regina.  They make pretty good co-parents when they’re not at each other’s throats.  I do like the idea of Rumple becoming more involved in his life.  Henry is a good influence on Regina, and I can see him being the same for Rumple.  And he’s going to need it!

The thing I find pretty funny about the gif promo  – so they’re “introducing”  Ioan Gruffudd’s new show but they give him a tiny ol’ rectangle at the end.  How am I supposed to notice that when I’m still not over my pirate’s big ol’ pic up at the top!  ABC’s crush is just too cute.

Ok, one more post and then I’ll stop hijacking the thread – I laughed so hard I scared the dogs when I read this Real Husbands of SB – I don’t think it’s been posted —

On this episode of Real Husbands of Storybrooke:

Who knew Captain Hook was so fashionable.

Holy frick frack!!!  In addition to the promo, this is the gifset from ABC’s Tumblr page.  Unedited.  LOOK AT THE SIZE OF OUR PIRATE’S FACE!

You want ‘em, we got ‘em. This fall we’re introducing your newest crush to the ABC lineup,  Forever’s Ioan Gruffudd!

Saw the promo and yup, stand by my rant. As suspected the ABC shows with the biggest numbers/most talked about characters had more characters in it. OUAT performs well. It does what they need it to do. But it’s simply not their babies, Scandal and Grey’s. Hence the 1 guy. I wouldn’t be shocked if A&E start throwing more CaptainCharming into the show, Colin & Josh become ABC’s OUAT promo go-to’s (what’s better than one pretty face? TWO!!!)

I haven’t seen the promo yet (@ work) but I can already anticipate the whining now….which made me realize and giggle –

The ones constantly complaining and saying people can’t see past and only like Hook because of the leather and pretty face ARE THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO CAN’T SEE PAST THE LEATHER AND PRETTY FACE!  The rest of us can see Killy just fine thank you!

And seriously stop the crying kids and find something new to shout cause if I have to hear the ‘they killed Neal for CS’ or ‘CS is only a misdirect for SQ’ or any other hooey I may blow!  (This has nothing to do with anything specific I just can imagine the nasty thanks to all the crap ‘fans’ have been pulling lately…someday they may just realize they’re their own worst enemy…no, no they won’t)

    ~~ End rant. ~~

    😉
